The waterfall is located to the east of Hukou Town, Jixian County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, China, and to the west of Hukou Township, Yichuan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, China. The Yellow River rushes to Hukou, dividing Shanxi and Shaanxi from east to west. The cliffs on both sides of the river are steep, and the river mouth is narrowed like a pot mouth, hence the name Hukou Waterfall. Affected by climate, geology and other natural environments, the upstream water surface of the Hukou Waterfall is rapidly compressed from 300 meters to 20-30 meters within a distance of less than 500 meters, and then falls from a cliff of more than 20 meters at a rate of 1000 cubic meters per second, forming a natural landscape of 'the Yellow River in a thousand miles is collected in a pot'. The scenic area has different scenery in all four seasons, not only the main waterfall, the secondary waterfalls on both sides, 'Ten Mile Dragon Trough', 'Stone Nest Treasure Mirror', 'Underground Waterfall Viewing Corridor', 'Chessboard Formation', 'Erosion Trough' and other natural landscapes, but also Heqingmen Wharf, Qing Dynasty Great Wall, Bull and Horse King Temple and many other cultural attractions.
