Junshan Island

Junshan is located 15 kilometers southwest of Yueyang City in Dongting Lake, historically known as Dongting Mountain, Xiang Mountain, and Yuan Mountain. It is a small island in the vast expanse of Dongting Lake, facing the famous ancient Yueyang Tower from afar, symbolizing the 'court of a fairy's cave dwelling'. Legend has it that 'Dongting Mountain floats on the water, beneath which lie hundreds of golden halls inhabited by jade maidens. Throughout the seasons, the sounds of metal and stone, silk and bamboo instruments can be heard, reaching the top of the mountain'. Junshan tea was first offered as a tribute during the Tang Dynasty and continued through the Five Dynasties, historically reserved for imperial consumption. In 1956, at the Leipzig World Fair, 'Junshan Silver Needle' was acclaimed as 'gold inlaid with jade' and won a gold medal, now ranking as one of China's top ten famous teas.
