Kumano Shrine ~

10 minutes walk from Echigo Yuzawa station. Proceed south on Prefectural Road 462 (Onsen-dori), and you will find the entrance to the approach after passing a large condominium with a yellow outer wall. Google Maps shows a different route, but if you follow it, you probably won't be able to reach it. The precincts are about 100 steps up the stone steps with cedars on both sides. The stone steps are narrow and steep, so there is a sign that calls attention to "very dangerous". Built in 1402. The main deity is Kushi Mikino. The shrine is not old, but it is damaged.
