Shapotou

Overview Shapotou is located on the southeastern edge of the Tengger Desert in the western part of Zhongwei City, Ningxia. It is a 5A-level scenic area with unique landscapes such as deserts, the Yellow River, mountains, and oases. Tickets and Opening Hours • Tickets: CNY 80 per adult, CNY 50 in winter. There are also various packages available, such as 399A, 399B, and 299, which include tickets and some activities. • Opening hours: 8:00–18:00 from Apr 1 to Oct 31; 8:30–17:00 from Nov 1 to Mar 31. Transportation • Public transport: You can fly to Zhongwei Xiangshan Airport and then take a taxi to the scenic area; or take a train to Zhongwei Station or Zhongwei South Station, and then take bus No. 2 or a taxi to the scenic area. • Self-driving: From Yinchuan, take National Highway G109, about 2.5 hours' drive. Tour Route The regular route is to enter from the Yellow River Area (South Area), and after purchasing tickets, go to the White Horse Pier, International Sand Skiing Center, Desert Ladder, and Wang Wei Viewing Platform in turn, then pass through the Baolan Railway culvert, and take the ferry bus to the desert area. Recommended Attractions • Yellow River Area: There is the largest natural sand skiing field in China, where you can experience sand skiing; take a sheepskin raft to drift and experience the ancient transportation culture of the Yellow River; "The First Cableway of the Yellow River" zipline, experience the thrill of crossing the Yellow River. • Desert Area: You can ride a camel to experience the desert scenery; take a desert off-road vehicle or a surfing vehicle to shuttle between the sand dunes and enjoy the excitement. • Shapotou Yellow River Glass Bridge: Located above the Yellow River, you can enjoy the scenery of the Yellow River and the surrounding area. • Wang Wei Viewing Platform: You can overlook the magnificent scenery of the Yellow River, desert, and oasis, and experience the artistic conception of "The desert is straight, and the long river is round." Recommended Food There are mugwort noodles, hand-grabbed mutton, lamb offal, marinated tofu, taro sticky rice, jar meat, Xiangshan lamb, sweet and sour Yellow River carp, etc. Notes Do sun protection, bring sun hats, sunscreen, sun protection clothing, etc.; prepare enough water and drinks to replenish salt; wear comfortable shoes to prevent sand from entering, and you can also buy shoe covers in the scenic area.
