Let’s start with the positives: Staff : wonderfully friendly, hard-working, dedicated and doing their best they can. Special mention to Lina for responding to one of our significant issues. (see below). Rooms : We had two rooms. Unlike previous reviews that commented on stale air and broken air conditioning, our rooms were very comfortable. beds are extremely comfortable. Powerful and refreshing showers. Breakfast - In a word, delicious. Marouane is a very interesting, warm and lovely person, totally on it. Restaurant staff - attentive, full of smiles, and helpful. Bar - ok wine list. The less than positives….and you won’t believe some of this! We booked this hotel because it offered a large swimming pool, a spa and a gym. We were informed on check-in that all were closed due to refurbishment. In August? This made things extremely difficult for us (we have young children) and spoilt a wonderful two-week tour of this amazing country. Although we received compensation in the form of free breakfasts (thank you), we did not want this, nor need this. I wanted a refund to move hotels – not possible. Why? Not what we paid for. Explain? We were further informed that there was a bar and a swimming pool on the roof. There are neither. (There is a small water feature / paddling pool). Lobby and restaurant – boiling hot. Huge floor-to-ceiling mirrors everywhere which are quite ridiculous and disorientating and could be removed very easily, improving things considerably. Bar - only enough gin left for one G&T, so I ordered a draft beer. No draft beer. Next evening, the wine we ordered wasn’t available but a more expensive gris was. Funny that. On our last evening, we decided to eat in the restaurant. We were shown to a table in the furthest corner. Lovely. There were no other diners in the restaurant whatsoever. There were no lights on. It got darker and darker and darker and soon we were sat around the lights of our phones!! Nobody came to rescue us for ages, let alone take our order. (even our waiter had to laugh!) BUT - when the food finally arrived it was absolutely delicious! Why do this to yourselves? By this stage, we decided to be as light hearted as we could be, knowing we were leaving in the morning. Message to management : You cannot renovate whilst being open at the same time. You are determined to damage your brand and the excellent reputation of Sofitel that we have experienced in other countries. Close and spend some money on what clearly was once an amazing five star hotel. A huge thank you to all of the staff who work here.
