Gambar Profil Penulis

Hi geng! 👋 It’s your fellow Malaysian here, and I just got back from an unforgettable trip to Taiwan – and I have to share my first travel tip with you: Use the MRT! 🚆

Whether you’re heading to Taipei for bubble tea, street food and shopping 🛍️, or exploring the chilled coastal vibes of Kaohsiung 🌊, the Taiwan MRT map will be your best travel companion. Seriously, it saved me so much time, money, and legwork.

I used the MRT to:

  • Sip bubble tea in Ximending 🍹
  • Catch sunsets at Tamsui Old Street 🌅
  • Soak in hot springs at Beitou ♨️
  • Zoom straight from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei (no traffic jam, syokkk!)
  • Chill by the beach in Kaohsiung’s Sizihwan Bay 🏖️

And the best part? MRT rides are super clean, affordable, and tourist-friendly. Plus, I could pay with just one EasyCard that works across most cities!

If you're planning your first trip (or even your 5th trip!) to Taiwan, this guide to the Taiwan MRT Map will help you travel like a local – and makan like a pro. 🍜😋 I’ll walk you through everything from MRT lines to ticket tips, operating hours, and real routes I used myself.

🏙️ Introduction to the Taiwan MRT

The Taiwan MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is mainly based in Taipei and Kaohsiung, and it’s honestly one of the easiest ways to explore the cities.

In Taipei, it’s like a well-connected underground network that takes you everywhere – from the trendy streets of Ximending, to the beautiful Taipei 101, to the cultural treasures in Beitou and Tamsui. 🏯🌉

It’s super tourist-friendly with:

  • English signage
  • Voice announcements
  • Clean stations
  • Friendly locals who don’t mind pointing you in the right direction

If you’ve used the MRT in Singapore, you’ll feel right at home here (but colder, because aircon everywhere ❄️).

🗺️ An Overview of the Taiwan MRT Lines

If you're like me (a Malaysian who loves to explore stress-free 😄), then the Taiwan MRT Map will be your new best friend. It’s the key to unlocking two of Taiwan’s most exciting cities: Taipei and Kaohsiung. Let me break it down so you know exactly what to expect and where to go.

⏰ Taiwan MRT Operating Hours

The MRT runs daily from around 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight) – enough for most tourist plans.

⏳ Trains come every 2–5 minutes during peak hours, and around every 7–10 minutes late at night.

📅 Some stations (like Taipei Main Station) have last train notices displayed on big screens – super helpful before catching your final ride.

The Howard Plaza Hotel, what a grand and auspicious name! It boasts over 40 years of history and a prime location. The Taoyuan Airport bus (Dayou bus) even has a stop right by the hotel's side entrance. We booked a family room, which was spacious and included a delicious and varied breakfast. All the staff were warm, attentive, and provided excellent service. A special thanks to the bellhop, John Huang, for his thoughtful assistance.

We recently stayed at the Dinosaur Kingdom Family Room and transferred to a Premier Twin Room the following day. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The staff were consistently kind, helpful, and accommodating, which we truly appreciated. We especially enjoyed the family room—it was thoughtfully designed and perfect for traveling with a young child. I had initially planned for a two-night stay in this room, but unfortunately, renovations were scheduled to begin the following day. This was a bit disappointing, as it made our time there feel quite short, especially with other activities already planned during our trip. In comparison to other five-star hotels we’ve stayed in, I did find the lack of flexibility with early check-in a bit surprising, particularly for the themed room. We had hoped to settle in earlier, and similarly, the following day’s transfer to the Premier room was not available early as it was fully booked. While this was different from what I’m used to, I do understand that this may be part of their standard protocol. On a positive note, we loved the buffet, and the rooms were very comfortable. The complimentary drinks were a nice touch, and the playroom area was excellent—clearly designed with families in mind. It was also lovely to see the hotel organizing activities for children. During our stay, there was a special event (like a children’s appreciation day?), where me and my baby were able to participate in arts and crafts and even received small prizes, which made the experience extra memorable. The swimming pool was decent, though not very large, and the water was quite cold, so we ended up enjoying the bathtub instead. One area for improvement would be cleanliness. We noticed visible dust in the room, which was concerning—especially since the room is designed for small children, and for someone like me who is diagnosed with allergies to multiple types of dust mites. I did raise this with Lara at the lobby, who kindly apologized and mentioned she would inform housekeeping. However, upon transferring rooms the next day, I still noticed dust in certain areas, which made me question the thoroughness of the cleaning. Separately, I also observed that some toiletries (such as conditioner and lotion) were nearly empty upon arrival, suggesting they may not have been checked or replenished prior to our stay. Despite these points, we genuinely had a pleasant experience overall and would consider returning. I’m also excited and curious to see what the next theme for the family rooms will be after the renovations.

As a 5-star hotel, I don't think they should be promoting self check-in kiosks. A 5-star hotel should provide the expected service, not tell me to use a self check-in machine – I might as well book a 3-star hotel then. And if the self check-in machine wasn't bad enough, it even had problems. Check-in was supposed to start at 3 PM, but when I arrived at 4 PM, it said my room wasn't ready yet? Then I had to go back to the front desk to sort it out. If the machines are so unreliable, why not just let guests check in at the front desk? Furthermore, before checking in, I specifically requested a high floor, and the hotel even replied that for my room type, the highest floor available was the 29th, which shows they saw my note. Yet, upon check-in, I was assigned the lowest available floor, the 12th. I had to request a change again to get moved to the 18th floor – it's just speechless. And to top it off, I can overlook the lack of toothbrushes and toothpaste, but shouldn't a room at least come with two bottles of mineral water as standard? I know there's a water dispenser on every floor, but I'm a tourist. Do you expect me to carry a bottle around everywhere? There's a limit to how 'eco-friendly' one can be.

The hotel staff were all very welcoming. Ximending is nearby, and the breakfast selection is great. There are two MRT stations very close by, making it super convenient to get around. Across the street there's a Starbucks and a McDonald's, and on the street behind, there are local eateries.

It is one of the iconic hotels in Taipei with magnificent structure and views. However on the day of our check in, there was a kindergarteners graduation party. With 100+ children running and screaming in the lobby area makes me feel like I am in a fish market not an upscale hotel. If the Libby manager or Conceirge can step in to control the crowd, it would have been a better experience for me . The buffet restaurant has extensive selection of food and they all tasted great. The musicians at the lobby performed well during my stay and it wasa pleasure sitting in the lobby to enjoy the music. The secret pathways are pleasant surprises. But the tours are not for people with walking issues since participants needs to walk down 70+ steps to get a full view of the secret pathways. I highly recommend staying here.

We had an enjoyable stay overall. The hotel is in a fantastic location, the room was comfortable, and the breakfast offered an excellent selection. However, some service interactions at breakfast felt unnecessarily formal and inconsistent. We were reminded to lower our voices even though we had only spoken briefly after finding our children, while other guests who were noticeably louder were not approached. These interactions made us feel less welcome than expected at a luxury hotel. Overall, it’s a very good hotel, but a warmer and more genuine approach to service would have made the experience even better.

Great service and location, but an absolute nightmare of a stay Rating: 1/5 I booked this hotel for a one-night trip to Taipei for a concert—just me, alone, excited to see my idol. Unfortunately, the stay itself was a total nightmare. Let me start with the positives: the service is excellent—knowledgeable, quick, and polite. The location is also perfect, with a direct path from the Taipei MRT station to the hotel, and you can reach Taoyuan Airport in under an hour. There's even a water machine in the corridor, which was handy for getting hot water. But that's where the good ends. The hotel is shockingly old—worse than any dilapidated hotel in Hong Kong at a third of the price. For what I paid, I did not expect this level of neglect. I couldn't book a single or double room, so they gave me a room with three beds. I lay down on the first bed furthest from the window and soon felt itchy—I suspect bed lice. The other two beds near the window seemed fine, but that's already unacceptable. And the blankets were so thin I felt completely insecure—like there was nothing protecting me. The bathroom was a disaster. Hair on the wall, a small dark spot in the bathtub, and no hairdryer. The toilet barely flushed—I had to press the button multiple times, and the toilet paper just wouldn't go away. As for the shower—I've never seen anything like this in 40 years of traveling. Not even in mainland China hotels I visited as a kid with my grandparents. The knob was super loose and barely functional. Turning it to the hot water side did nothing—no water came out. Slightly turning the other way (still on the red hot side) gave only cold water. I could not get hot water at all. At breakfast, I overheard Japanese ladies complaining about the exact same issue. Unbelievable. There were also zero amenities. They hide behind ”eco-friendly,” but in Japan, you can still ask for supplies. Here, I didn't even have tissue paper in the room—I had to go back to the toilet to get toilet paper. I couldn't take a proper shower. I feel so dirty and uncomfortable. Truly a nightmare. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

The hotel is located near to the Zhongxiao Dunhua station (exit 3) and walking distance from Ming Yao Department Store, Taipei Dome, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. There are also many convenience stores within the vicinity and famous donut stores nearby. During our stay, we travelled by foot from the hotel to Pokemon Center Taipei, Taipei 101 and even to Linjiang Night Market.  The room is spacious. There are bathtub and shower in our room, but due to the law in Taiwan, please prepare your own toothbrush and toothpaste. There are also luggage weighing machine and coin-laundry machines in a small room on the floor where they serve breakfast. While not to expect a widespread of choices, I think their breakfast selection is a decent combination of local dishes and western options. Special mention that their pineapples are very sweet! If you are interested, you may also check out over the counter on the selection of local products that can be ordered and delivered to the hotel. It may save you trouble to locate some of the famous brands in Taipei. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Green World Zhongxiao.

The hotel is a bit dated, which wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but I was aware of it when making the reservation. An excellent stay! The room was very spacious, and the location was super convenient. It's just over 100 meters from Exit 1 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station, and only two stops from Taipei Main Station. Getting to Taoyuan Airport by express train takes less than an hour. There are multiple FamilyMart and 7-Eleven stores nearby, plus a Don Quijote. The hotel used to be a bank vault, so the decor is quite unique. They offer welcome drinks and a free snack buffet. It's only 500 meters from Fuhang Soy Milk and just 200 meters from Simple Kaffa, the world champion coffee shop, along with other cafes – all within walking distance. Huashan 1914 Creative Park is right next door. Overall, it's an incredibly convenient hotel. The soundproofing is decent; I slept well without much noise from the street or cars. It was a special occasion however we had not gotten any special amenities despite at least three confirmation emails sent in advance. we had also checked in at 5 pm which as well beyond the check-in time however the room was not ready and check into around 20 minutes. I personally feel that this hotel is in a very 'local' area. How do I put it? It feels like living alongside ********* people, surrounded by their daily lives. After spending several days zipping around Taiwan with just an EasyCard and the MRT map in my hand, I can honestly say this: Taiwan’s MRT system is one of the best in Asia – especially if you're a fellow Malaysian who loves clean, efficient, and affordable transport (plus who wants to avoid traffic and language stress, right? 😅).

From the bustling city streets of Taipei to the laid-back charm of Kaohsiung, the MRT helped me:

  • ✅ Save money (fares are super affordable – cheaper than kopi premium!)
  • ✅ Reach top attractions without needing a taxi or Grab
  • ✅ Enjoy a comfortable ride in air-conditioned trains (perfect after walking under hot sun ☀️)
  • ✅ Travel safely at night (stations are well-lit and secure)
  • ✅ Eat my way through Taiwan, one MRT stop at a time 🍜🧋

Seriously, if you’re heading to Taiwan soon, download the Taiwan MRT map, get yourself an EasyCard, and you’re all set to explore like a pro! Whether it’s for food hunting, sightseeing, or just soaking in the vibes of this beautiful island – the MRT will take you there, easily.
