Gambar Profil Penulis

Hi geng! 👋 It’s your fellow Malaysian here, and I just got back from an unforgettable trip to Taiwan – and I have to share my first travel tip with you: Use the MRT! 🚆

Whether you’re heading to Taipei for bubble tea, street food and shopping 🛍️, or exploring the chilled coastal vibes of Kaohsiung 🌊, the Taiwan MRT map will be your best travel companion. Seriously, it saved me so much time, money, and legwork.

I used the MRT to:

  • Sip bubble tea in Ximending 🍹
  • Catch sunsets at Tamsui Old Street 🌅
  • Soak in hot springs at Beitou ♨️
  • Zoom straight from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei (no traffic jam, syokkk!)
  • Chill by the beach in Kaohsiung’s Sizihwan Bay 🏖️

And the best part? MRT rides are super clean, affordable, and tourist-friendly. Plus, I could pay with just one EasyCard that works across most cities!

If you're planning your first trip (or even your 5th trip!) to Taiwan, this guide to the Taiwan MRT Map will help you travel like a local – and makan like a pro. 🍜😋 I’ll walk you through everything from MRT lines to ticket tips, operating hours, and real routes I used myself.

🏙️ Introduction to the Taiwan MRT

The Taiwan MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is mainly based in Taipei and Kaohsiung, and it’s honestly one of the easiest ways to explore the cities.

In Taipei, it’s like a well-connected underground network that takes you everywhere – from the trendy streets of Ximending, to the beautiful Taipei 101, to the cultural treasures in Beitou and Tamsui. 🏯🌉

It’s super tourist-friendly with:

  • English signage
  • Voice announcements
  • Clean stations
  • Friendly locals who don’t mind pointing you in the right direction

If you’ve used the MRT in Singapore, you’ll feel right at home here (but colder, because aircon everywhere ❄️).

🗺️ An Overview of the Taiwan MRT Lines

If you're like me (a Malaysian who loves to explore stress-free 😄), then the Taiwan MRT Map will be your new best friend. It’s the key to unlocking two of Taiwan’s most exciting cities: Taipei and Kaohsiung. Let me break it down so you know exactly what to expect and where to go.

⏰ Taiwan MRT Operating Hours

The MRT runs daily from around 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight) – enough for most tourist plans.

⏳ Trains come every 2–5 minutes during peak hours, and around every 7–10 minutes late at night.

📅 Some stations (like Taipei Main Station) have last train notices displayed on big screens – super helpful before catching your final ride.

🚨 If you're out late at night (especially after night markets), just be sure to check the last train timing from your station.

📍 Final Travel Tips for Malaysians:

  • Don’t forget to tap in and out with your EasyCard
  • Try to avoid peak hours (7–9 AM, 5–7 PM) if you don’t like crowds
  • Use Google Maps or the Taipei MRT app for real-time directions
  • Always stand on the right side of the escalator – Taiwan punya etiquette, ok 😄
  • Take the Airport MRT if you’re arriving or departing via Taoyuan ✈️ – fast and super convenient!

💳 EasyCard – The Malaysian Must-Have! 😍

If you're coming to Taiwan, please get an EasyCard. Seriously, don’t waste time buying single trip tokens lah. 😅

You can buy one at:

  • MRT stations
  • Convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart)
  • Taoyuan Airport

💵 Price:

  • Card costs TWD 100 (non-refundable)
  • Top up as you go (minimum TWD 100)

🎁 Extra Bonus: EasyCard also works for:

  • City buses 🚌
  • YouBike (Taipei's rental bicycle system 🚲)
  • Convenience stores 🏪
  • Some attractions and vending machines!

🧠 Tip:

Hold onto it for your next trip – it doesn’t expire for years!

👀 Don’t forget to pre-purchase an eSIM or Taiwan travel SIM card so you’re connected the moment you land!

The hotel's location is super convenient; turn right out of the hotel, and the subway station is just a three-minute walk away. There's a 7-Eleven behind the hotel. From my room, I could see the National Police Agency of Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior, which looked simple, solemn, and full of historical significance.

Did a short trip getaway after Guangzhou meeting. Hotel location has lots of Michelin food and as well great for shopping . Easy access by train, taxi or private car . Would recommend the hotel for stay due to it amenities nearby. Do note room is very basic hence toiletries like tooth brush , shaver and etc . Best to bring your own . Walk out main entrance of hotel u turn right there is a a shop called Taiwan CLM self made bag. Good quality and reasonable price . Food wise lot of choices nearby and round the corner You be spoilt for choices . Front counter manager Joshua is upcoming and also friendly . Minor incident happened and they admit their issue. This is very good that show the hotel has high standard of taking care of client item. Any damages they inform . ”Loved the vibe of this hotel! 😍 The design is super modern—especially the bathroom with the marble vanity and high-tech bidet (always a win!). The bedroom had cool artistic touches like the Ximen Red House print and unique metal wall art. The mood lighting made it feel super relaxing after a long day. Clean, stylish, and comfortable. Would definitely stay again!”

Great location and services. The room was large, clean, and the Taipei 101 view was stunning. The only thing that could be improved is the hair dryer, which felt quite old-fashioned. It would be nice if the hotel could replace it.

They have kindly upgraded us to rooms next to elevator with balcony for better ventilation. Even at lower level the view of Taipei is unbeatable. We like the wooden floor much better. Because of renovation at the separate bldg, they’ve used strong aroma to cover the smell. That side has carpet floor which will suit some of the travellers. A few boutiques at main bldg, selling special fashion & accessories. Hope we could stay for longer next time to read the exhibition at V floor. Those are precious history of how the hotel has developed since 1940s. Buses to Jiantan only operates on weekends- we as Japanese cannot read the sign & waited in the wind for 10+ min. Luckily a lady asked the concierge & figured out what’s going on. We took taxi instead.

Hands down the best hotel during my Taipei trip. It truly lives up to its reputation as Regent's flagship property and a classic ********* hotel. The executive club service was professional and attentive, and the executive lounge offerings were excellent. While the hotel's exterior shows some age, the interiors perfectly embody the standards of a luxury hotel. Additionally, the outstanding dining experience and the unique boutique gallery business model left a very strong impression.

The room is spacious, and all amenities are provided except for toothbrushes, which you'll need to bring yourself. A deposit of NT$1000 is required upon check-in, payable in cash or by card. The hotel is conveniently located near Taipei Main Station, with easy access to the Taipei Metro, Taoyuan Metro, banks, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store, making it great for shopping. You can check in with your passport, and the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. You can add breakfast for an additional NT$580 (discounted rate), and the breakfast is quite good. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.

Choosing hotels for my Taiwan trip took nearly a week because I can be quite picky about accommodations. ILLUME turned out to be the perfect choice, meeting all my priorities. From the moment I dropped off my luggage in the elegant lobby, I felt welcomed. The staff was friendly and even accommodated my request for an early check-in, allowing me to settle in two hours ahead of the standard 4 PM check-in time. I was assigned a room next to the sauna and steam room, which I appreciated for its convenience. However, there were some noises in the evening from nearby banquet events and guests doing laundry, but as someone who tends to stay up late, it didn't bother me at all. The gym is shared and well-equipped, typically not crowded except during peak hours when fitness classes draw in more guests. My room was clean and received daily housekeeping, although there were a couple of times when the cups weren't cleaned. I understand they might have thought I was still using them, so no complaints there. It’s also worth noting that there’s a 7-11 convenience store just downstairs, connected directly to the hotel lobby, where they sell Taiwan's famous branded cakes like 太陽餅 and 鳳梨蘇. Plus, there are numerous buses nearby, making transportation super convenient—I didn’t even need to rely on the subway! I really enjoyed the air conditioning—it was cool enough for a comfortable night’s sleep. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and will definitely return without hesitation!

Overall a pleasant stay. Staff are polite and pleasant, the dried tomatoes at L5 is good. 😊 only hair dryer, handwash, body wash and 2in1 shampoo/conditioner provided in room so be sure so bring your other toiletries if you need! Pros 😊 - fuss free check in (room was ready ahead of check in time so recep let us in) - water dispenser avail (don’t have to buy your water) and 2 bottles in room daily - small area at L5 for you to relax at with some snacks and drinks (great if you’re having a late flight and need somewhere to rest after checking out, or if you arrive early before check in) - easy walk to xmd - bus stop outside with buses that gets you to most places Cons 😞 - poor sound proofing (can hear kids running down the rooms, people chatting outside, opening/closing of doors) - room not super conducive for light sleepers. E.g there is gap between the pelmet and curtain so once the sun rises, the light will shine into the room, your room will not be in the complete black-out state. Can bring an eye mask to help with this! - very basic room amenities. - slightly steep price given how basic and no-frills this hotel is.

Renaissance Taipei Shihlin Hotel offers truly impressive 5-star service with professional and friendly staff who are always willing to help. The check-in and check-out process is smooth and efficient, making the whole stay very comfortable. The rooms are modern, spacious, very clean, and well equipped with everything needed for both business and leisure travelers. Housekeeping does an excellent job of keeping the room spotless and tidy every day. The breakfast buffet is delicious, with a wide variety of international and local options that are constantly replenished. The location is very convenient, close to Shilin Night Market and the MRT, but still quiet enough for a relaxing stay. Facilities such as the rooftop pool, fitness center, and lounge area give a real luxury resort feeling. Overall, this is a fantastic 5-star hotel in Taipei, and it is easy to recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality service and comfort.

overall, it was an average experience. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and quiet, with surprisingly good soundproofing that made it easy to rest. I also appreciated the in-room coffee machine, which was a convenient touch for a quick morning pick-me-up. However, being located in the basement made the room feel a bit dark, and the bathroom facilities could be more modern, as the toilet was not a washlet. The breakfast offered was quite limited, and the service left something to be desired. While the staff were present, they did not proactively check on guests or offer assistance, and there was little interaction or friendliness. Simple gestures like greetings, smiles, or help with luggage were missing, which made the overall experience feel less welcoming. Additionally, during breakfast, food was cleared promptly at the set time without asking if guests were still eating or wanted more, which could have been handled more thoughtfully. On the positive side, the hotel provides the essentials for a short stay, and the rooms are quiet and functional. For travelers prioritizing comfort and a clean environment, this hotel is acceptable, but I feel that improved hospitality and more attention to guest experience would make a significant difference. Service really matters in hospitality, and it’s the area where this property could improve the most.

This is a locally owned hotel and, although rated as a four-star property, it feels more like a three-star international chain hotel. The staff do not greet guests proactively and tend to respond only when spoken to. Even when thanked, they often remain unresponsive, which was rather disappointing. The hotel has a distinct 1990s vibe which is dated, but equipped with all the basic facilities one might need. Breakfast was quite unappealing, and the coffee was especially disappointing as it was served from a pot rather than freshly ground. That said, the location is excellent and just a few minutes’ walk from the rail system, with plenty of eateries and convenience stores nearby. From a pricing perspective, it’s reasonable value for money, and I wouldn’t mind staying here again, provided expectations are managed accordingly.

Our family of six stayed at Hotel Èclat Taipei, occupying three different rooms on Level 5. Overall, the rooms were cosy, stylish, and felt luxurious, but our experience varied noticeably from room to room. One point to note is the lack of basic amenities — toothbrushes and toothpaste were not provided, which may surprise some guests. Additionally, the room features were inconsistent: - One room had heated toilet seats, while the other two did not. - One room had automated curtains, while the rest were manual. - Another room had warm water from the bidet, but others did not. Although Hotel Èclat is a 5-star hotel, the lobby is relatively small and may feel cramped, especially when multiple guests are checking in at the same time. Sound insulation could also be improved, as we occasionally heard guests laughing late at night. That said, there were definite highlights. The bedding was extremely comfortable, and both the water pressure and bath products were excellent, making showers very enjoyable. These details made a big difference to our comfort. Location-wise, the hotel is excellent. It is extremely close to Taipei 101, which is very convenient for guests planning to visit the area. The hotel is also situated between two MRT stations on the Red Line, each approximately 400–600 metres away. Walking to and from the MRT stations was pleasant, especially with the cool December weather, making the commute comfortable and enjoyable. We did not opt for the hotel breakfast, as we preferred exploring traditional ********* breakfast options nearby. The staff were polite, professional, and accommodating, assisting us with umbrella rentals and ensuring our rooms were on the same floor, which we appreciated greatly as a family travelling together. Overall, Hotel Èclat offers a comfortable stay in a prime location with attentive service, though greater consistency in room features, amenities, and shared spaces would further enhance the experience.

Service was top tier! Every single personnel or staff in this hotel were very accommodating and friendly. The amenities were more than what we needed. I've stayed here multiple times. The location is excellent, right next to Ningxia Night Market, and less than a 10-minute walk from Dihua Street and Zhongshan Shuanglian MRT Station. The rooms, though small, are clean and aesthetically pleasing. In previous stays, the soundproofing was acceptable, but this time, the guests across and next to us were a group of 'aunties' and 'uncles' who loved to leave their doors open and chat loudly until midnight, then woke us up again at 6 AM. I couldn't help but ask them if they could close their doors when talking, and they agreed, but then started again shortly after. I was speechless 😓. I understand this isn't something the hotel can control, and I can only blame my bad luck. However, perhaps the hotel could remind guests to keep quiet after 10 PM.

For the past 10 years, whenever I visit Taipei, I’d definitely book my few nights stay at Star Beauty. I wouldn’t say it’s the best but their prices were pretty reasonable with good bed and they upholds a standard of cleanliness. The nearest MRT station would be Jiantan but it’s probably a 10 mins walk. And about 13 mins walk to Shilin Night Market from hotel. Their room walkway is slightly dimmer but that’s no issue for me. The hotel is right next to Taipei Main Station (Exit M3), just a 1-minute walk away. The décor has a slightly vintage style, but the services are excellent. Each room comes with a personal AI box where you can check promotions, food spots, transportation info, or even play music. We also received coffee vouchers that can be redeemed at the 17 Café on the first floor , the coffee was great. The room is compact but comfortable and clean. Adjusting the hot and cold water, as well as the A/C, can be a bit tricky, but it’s not a big issue. There are convenience stores right next to the hotel, both 7-Eleven and FamilyMart. Highly recommended for travelers looking for a hotel just a short walk from the station.

✅ Final Thoughts – Why the Taiwan MRT Map is Your Travel Power Tool

After spending several days zipping around Taiwan with just an EasyCard and the MRT map in my hand, I can honestly say this: Taiwan’s MRT system is one of the best in Asia – especially if you're a fellow Malaysian who loves clean, efficient, and affordable transport (plus who wants to avoid traffic and language stress, right? 😅).

From the bustling city streets of Taipei to the laid-back charm of Kaohsiung, the MRT helped me:

  • ✅ Save money (fares are super affordable – cheaper than kopi premium!)
  • ✅ Reach top attractions without needing a taxi or Grab
  • ✅ Enjoy a comfortable ride in air-conditioned trains (perfect after walking under hot sun ☀️)
  • ✅ Travel safely at night (stations are well-lit and secure)
  • ✅ Eat my way through Taiwan, one MRT stop at a time 🍜🧋

Seriously, if you’re heading to Taiwan soon, download the Taiwan MRT map, get yourself an EasyCard, and you’re all set to explore like a pro! Whether it’s for food hunting, sightseeing, or just soaking in the vibes of this beautiful island – the MRT will take you there, easily.
