I was actually really surprise that they do nog acknowledge permanent residence card as a proof of Identity probably because it doesn’t indicate your address on the ID nonetheless, rules are rules.
(so save yourself from trouble by carrying your license or passport)
- Just like any other hotel they require a physical creditcard upon check in regardless if you already paid your booking you still need to show it, so if you are a traveller who loves to cary cash or debit take note of this.
- Check in process is smooth, they’re very nice. I’m actually hesitant to stay there at first since it was in Granville where alot of bars and (sadly homeless) around the area but throughout my stay I never felt scared at all, as only backpackers are allowed to enter the premises (you need to tap your room card to get in at the main entrance).
- Breakfast is also provided bagels, fruits and boiled it. Enough for you to start the day. BTW coffee, tea and chocolate drinks are provided 24hrs.
(And its a plus that the kitchen are literally very clean and so much space to eat)
- Rooms, Washroom and Shower Room are all clean and smells good.
- Lastly, they provide tour (tho I didn’t went to any) but some backpackers I talked with said it was fun, if you’re there on a weekends make sure to join the Party Crawl! It was the highlight of my trip.
❤️❤️❤️
Helpful staff, laundry on site. Kitchen has NOTHING not even cutlery/plates. Hard when traveling and jut wanting to buy trays etc. should have basics in there. Air con not air con really a built in fan with cold water. Our room got hotter not cooler and it was checked it was cold in the system but didn’t want to blow that out. Was told not an air con! So sad especially the price you are paying!

The service staff was very friendly, which I appreciated. But there are a lot of homeless people nearby, which is disturbing. The room has no ventilation, seems to have not been cleaned, and the facilities are also very poor. Since I booked the hotel at the last minute and the price was not high, I accepted it. The hotel has two locks, but the odd tenant is a little unsettling. Thank you very much to the receptionist for changing me to a more suitable room! If I were given a choice again, I would not choose this hotel. I still appreciate every service member's help. Breakfast is a simple buffet with hard-boiled eggs, toast and juice. Dinner was simple rice with sauce on top. There are many supermarkets nearby. You can choose to go shopping on your own, but be sure to avoid the hordes of homeless people.
Best hostel I've stayed at in Canada during g my time here. Clean, lots to do and a large kitchen area for you to cook if you don't want to eat out.great Location just off the highway and is in close distance to the chief, Shannon falls downtown and so much more.
Would definatley recommend
It was an amazing exercise staying at Turtle, it’s in the middle of downtown, super close to ocean, restaurants and night life is good. I’m definitely staying there again! It was clean n neat, no one disturbed, guests were super friendly.

PPianist with no handsThis hotel was built in 1885 with historical background according to the pictures on the wall. It would be more informative if there was a more thorough descriptions next to the pictures and become a museum like Inn.
We stayed in the Superior King room with balcony, the river view was excellent. This little town is very tranquil with relaxing vibe. We loved to stay in the balcony, unfortunately, there is no any BBQ or stove for cooking here, or we would love to stay more days. There is also no sun umbrella or shaded place in the balcony, and it could be very bright and hot even during 11C in the summer.
Our room is the closest to the car park, but we can’t access the stairs directly down to the car park. Instead, we had to detour in the hotel, walked the a few levels of stairs with passing two doors to the car park. There are more than a dozen of stairs in the hotel. Elderly and anyone with leg or back problems need to be aware of it.
Our room has been renovated recently. Everything maintains in very good condition, besides of the air conditioning. The air conditioning system was connected to another three rooms in the same isle. If any of the room turns on the heater while everyone is using the cool mode, the air conditioning will be shown in error.
Thanks for Meghan that she was willing to come back to the hotel for us in 5 mins even it was out of her work time. She has been very helpful and nice during our stay. She is the best front desk I have seen on this island.
We were happy with our stay, even we noticed that the noisy music from the pub right under the hotel level not only on in the weekend until midnight. However, we felt that compressor next to us had been noisy all day. We only felt quiet after we turned off the bathroom ventilator, air conditioning and closed the window.
There was also two washing machines and one dryer on site charging only CAD$2 for each laundry. I think this is the cheapest laundry service on the island.
The last but not least is the bath towels. We can’t stand with it snowing with crushes. I would suggest people bringing their towels. And the water pressure was too weak like a garden pot watering.
SShijiandiqiuThe room was clean and tidy. Even though it was a shared room, the atmosphere was great, and my roommates were all very considerate. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic, happy to answer all sorts of questions and provide necessary assistance. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the bustling city.
AAarie.eiraaI'm going to be brutally honest, this was not for me. The hallways and rooms smelled funny and were super cramped. I just left and booked a hotel.
I usually stay at hotels and gave this hostel a chance since a colleague of mine stays in hostels often and have no complaints. We are definitely not cut from the same piece of cloth.
LLilliSI enjoyed my stay at the Stoke Hotel. The room was comfortable, I was beside the laundry/maintenance room and noticed some noise during the day but not in the evenings or nights, it never bothered me. My room was adjacent to the hot tub and I did hear some loud good times but it didn't bother me and it was quiet by bedtime. Breakfast had so much selection. Waffles, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, apples, grapefruit, oranges, muffins, bagels, and various breads and cookies. The hot foods are alternated, just so many options, it was fantastic and made for slow mornings sometimes. The breakfast staff were welcoming, great at stocking up and tidying up. The mornings were very enjoyable.
The bus shuttle stop was nearby and the front desk gave bus vouchers when I asked. There was also a free shuttle service downtown, to the Regent Hotel, just a matter of requesting after 5:30pm.
Staff were friendly, the premises were clean, my room and bed were comfy. Had a great stay even though it was not downtown and I didn't have a car.
Denny's, McDonald's, tim Hortons and a&w are in walking distance. Good location and comfortable stay.
GGuest UserMy friend and I were very impressed with the Arbutus Inn. It was a very clean hotel and was newly renovated. The renovations were very tasteful and our room was very nice. You could also tell that there were new beds. They were very comfortable and had a good design. I was especially impressed that there no ”smoke” smell in the rooms or in the hotel lobby. All in all it was a very good experience.
DDevopriya TirthoI stayed at Recreation Inn during my recent trip to Kelowna, and overall, it was a decent experience for the price. The standout for me was the Saturday breakfast – simple but on point. It was served buffet-style with a good mix of egg muffins, fruit, bread, and juice. Everything was fresh and well-prepared, making for a nice start to the day.
The room itself was clean and had all the basic amenities I needed, but I have to admit, the condition of the room felt quite dated. The furniture and decor could really use an upgrade, and there was an unpleasant musty odor in the room that lingered throughout my stay, which definitely affected my comfort.
The staff were polite and helpful, and the check-in process was smooth. The location is convenient, close to some restaurants and not far from the lake, which was a bonus.
If you’re looking for a basic place to crash for a night or two and don’t mind a bit of an older vibe, it could work. But if you’re sensitive to smell or looking for something modern and more refreshed, this might not be the best fit.
BBuaishuohuadezhileThe room was spacious and comfortable.
The location is great, not far from the airport and Richmond Centre. You can walk to Richmond Centre, about a kilometer or so. It's also close to a bus stop, so you can take the bus.
It's a good value.
DDeva.Howard Johnson by Wyndham Downtown Kamloops is a solid choice if you're looking for a place to stay in the city center. It's close to restaurants, shops, and other key spots like the hospital and courthouse. Plus, it's super budget-friendly, which is a major plus.
The hotel itself is a bit older, but it's clean and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The rooms are pretty basic. Just keep in mind that there's no pool or fancy breakfast spread – it's more of a continental-style breakfast. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to request a room that faces the back, since the street noise can be pretty loud.
Overall, it's a great choice for a quick stay or if you're on a tight budget. Just don't expect any frills or luxury amenities. It's a no-frills spot that gets the job done, and the location is basically unbeatable.
AAnonymous User24/7 front desk staff. Breakfast is hard boiled eggs, toast, plain yogurt, frozen blueberries, juice, oats. Dinner is rice and curry. Free beer, wine or soda. Tv, kitchen, bar, lounge area. This area is near tents and tarps where homeless people are. At the same time, it’s within a 15min walk from most attractions, e.g. harbour, royal bc museum, chinatown. 100$ damage deposit required. 10$ deposit for a lock, 10$ for towel. Dorms are smelly, poor ventilation. Curtains are dark which makes the dorm very dark throughout the day. Private lockers next to bed have a heavy sliding lock which is inconvenient and loud.
