I recently had the pleasure of staying at ASO Base Backpackers during my visit to Aso, Japan, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. This charming hostel exceeded my expectations in every aspect and left me with beautiful memories of my time in Aso. First and foremost, the location of ASO Base Backpackers is simply breathtaking. Situated at 1498 Kurokawa, it offers a serene and picturesque setting surrounded by the natural beauty of Aso. The hostel is nestled amidst lush greenery and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm and friendly staff who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. They were incredibly helpful, providing valuable information about the area and offering suggestions for activities and sightseeing. Their genuine hospitality and passion for ensuring a memorable stay made a significant impact on my overall experience. The accommodation at ASO Base Backpackers was cozy, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The dormitory-style rooms were clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and ample storage space. The communal areas, such as the lounge and kitchen, were inviting and provided opportunities to connect with fellow travelers from around the world. Room was spacious but the bathroom was awkwardly small. There is NO hair conditioner in the bathroom. The fridge was so cold that the milk froze! The mattress and pillow were so comfy, soft, and firm at the time. We slept very well and didn’t want to leave the bed!

We stopped over in Aso for a night while driving around Kumamoto, and this ryokan did not disappoint! The service, food, room are all excellent! Just what we need to rest for the night before continuing our journey the next day. We did not opt for dinner, and many restaurants were closed after 5pm, so you might want to include dinner if you decide to stay. The breakfast was awesome and so hearty. Love it!

A traditional onsen hotel, recently renovated and facilities modernised. The twin bed room is large - about 50 sq m in size. In addition, there is a balcony overlooking an excellent view. The breakfast and dinner buffet are fine, though not very special. I like the Japanese style dinner better. The hotel is situated inside the mountain. Access is not easy. There are no shops nearby.

洋室の部屋は、ゴルフ場と、雄大な阿蘇外輪山を望む高原で、良い展望でした。部屋にはソファ、椅子とテーブル、セミダブルベッド2つで、快適でした。 実はゴルフリゾートの大浴場なので、お風呂はあまり期待してなかったのです。ところが、温泉は源泉掛け流しで、内風呂も、4つの露天風呂(含む樽風呂2)も全てが源泉掛け流しで、少し茶色の温泉でいい湯でした。11時チェックアウトなのにお風呂が朝9時までが少し残念でした。 食事はレストランにて、和洋ニ種類の前菜と、お作りと温鉢でした。後半は柔らかい熊本産牛とシーフードの陶板焼き、高菜ご飯と味噌汁、美味しいデザートで、夕食は良かったです。また食事係の方が親切で丁寧な接客でした。 朝食はゴルフリゾートのためか、ボリュームある朝食でした。 チェックアウト後に、ロビーのくまモンと写真を撮ろうとしていたら、スタッフの方が、阿蘇の外輪山の景色が良いところで撮れば良いですよと、大きなくまモンをカートで外まで運んでくれました。 おかげさまで、阿蘇の山々とくまモンと共に、素敵な家族写真を撮る事ができました。親切な心遣いが、とても嬉しかったです。

방은 쾌적하고 가족탕으로 쓸수있는 온천 4개 다 휼륭합니다. 석식은 신선하고 고급스런 재료로 만들어져 너무나 맛있습니다. 조식 또한 건강하면서도 맛있으며 푸짐하게 맛있게 먹었습니다. 부모님께서 석식.조식 모두 극찬을 하셨어요ㅎㅎ 또한 직원분들이 밝고 활기찬 에너지로 기분좋게 접객해주셔서 매우 기쁜마음으로 숙박했습니다. 점심으로 싸주신 오니기리 또한 맛있어요. 아소산에 또 가게된다면 재방문할겁니다.부모님과의 소중한 추억 감사했습니다.

This hotel is situated on a spacious property, secluded from the town center and shops. While it features public baths and an on-site restaurant, The dinner and breakfast offered a delightful blend of Western and Japanese dishes, typical of most Japanese hotels. Our twin room, though a bit compact, provided a comfortable overnight stay. All amenities provided were satisfactory for a one-night stay, leaving no room for complaints. As most establishments in the vicinity close after 5 PM (except for convenience stores), there isn't much to do at the hotel besides enjoying the onsen. Therefore, be prepared for an early night in.

フロントは昔ながらの旅館風。 部屋に入るとすぐに目に入るスリッパは薄汚れてかかとがすり切れていて、「消毒済」の紙が乗っていても今日的には履くのが躊躇われる状態。 温泉用の手ぬぐいも、ビニールに入った自分専用のものではなく、洗って使いまわしたもの。 部屋の中も共用スペースも老朽化は否めませんが、震災とコロナというダブルパンチの中で、頑張っておられるのだと感じました。 お風呂は、日帰り入浴もできる「どんどこ湯」と宿泊客専用の温泉にわかれています。 「どんどこ湯」はホテルフロントから、広大なお庭を眺めながら、途中にウサギ小屋があったりする渡り廊下を2,3分歩いたところにあります。 お庭の中に露天風呂を大胆に作りましたという感じで、コロナのせいでお湯を抜いた露天風呂もありましたが、大きな露天風呂は源泉かけ流しでゆったりと入れました。 朝は「どんどこ湯」は閉まっているので、宿泊客専用の方に行きましたが、こちらも露天風呂のある広々とした温泉で、のんびり楽しめました。 食事については、朝食は普通ですが、夕食が素晴らしかった。 特に赤牛の陶板焼きがすばらしく、こんなに美味しいステーキはなかなか食べたことがないほどでした。 総合評価は3.5点といったところ。古さに目をつむれば、十分満足できるホテルです。

日帰り貸切風呂利用のみでお邪魔しました。２名で４５分２０００円。 他の旅館が３時には日帰り貸切風呂を締め切る中、夕方でも利用できました。ただ、日帰りの貸切風呂は予約ができないので、空いていれば入れます。普通の内風呂は予約無しでも湯めぐりができます。 貸切風呂の脱衣場にはクレンジングオイルから乳液まで揃っていて、まさに手ぶらで入れます。タオルは持参しましたが、レンタルか販売がありそうです。 女将さんと思われる方がとても丁寧ですし、館内も手入れされた感じが伝わる旅館で、宿泊でも利用したいと思いました。 駐車場は日帰りだと利用できないので、近くの共同無料駐車場に停めました。

The Manager and staff were amazing and so helpful - Probably the best service we had all trip from 7 different stays. We had the dining experience and not only was the food wonderful, they even change our food when we said we were scared of trying the Horse & Chicken Sashimi. The view from the in-room onsen was brilliant. If you want to be critical then its a 10min walk to the village centre but thats why we choose this Hotel plus we just drove to the village centre - so simple. To the Manager - Please thank your staff for making our stay here an amazing one.
