Pros: 1. The room was incredibly spacious, with 4 beds even though we were only a party of 3. The mountain view from the room was fantastic! 2. Overall cleanliness was good. 3. Excellent location near Yubatake, where local shops and dining options are plentiful. 4. The private onsen was amazing, with a convenient button to refill hot water into the tub. 5. Special afternoon and evening times offered free food at the lounges, including ice cream, turnip soup, sausages, noodles, and special amenities like complimentary interdental brushes and facial masks. 6. Hotel staff provided excellent and efficient service. 7. Dinner was a delightful 7-course meal, with each evening featuring a different menu. 8. Breakfast was quite good with a decent variety. 9. The complimentary parking area was spacious with plenty of spots, located right next to the hotel entrance. Cons: 1. There isn't much to criticise about the place. Perhaps the breakfast spread could vary slightly each day.

We stayed in one of the rooms with a private onsen. It was a large room with two beds on the floor and a dining area. There was also a tiny makeup area/table on the side that I truly appreciated. The in-room onsen was large and comfortable. It had a large window that opens which brings in the refreshing cool air. The Skintheque toiletries were luxurious and perfect. The large shower was also a plus for us. Food was unbelievable. I was able to try new tastes and flavours I won't soon forget. The breakfast chicken with tomato and onion was a surprise. Dinner's abalone was also a revelation. My DH is a tall and large man. We truly appreciated the length of the bed, the size of the shower and onsen. The only problem is that the hotel staff is not very well-versed in English, though they do try their best.

GWに2泊3日で家族4人でウイングに宿泊。他の人の口コミを見ると、ボロいだの、料理がまずいだの、不満たらたらであったので正直行くまではドキドキしていたが、実際に行ってみると全く不満を感じる点はなかったです。むしろ大満足でした。たしかに、建物は古いかもしれませんが、中はリノベしてありキレイですし不便なことは全くなかった。口コミとは異なり、料理もおいしい。また、子供が楽しめる場所が腐るほどあるので子供メインで考えると本当に最高です。上皇御用達ホテルであることは行ってから知りましたが、なんとなく理由が理解できました。（ちなみに、森林散策にはロイヤルコースというコースがあります。）映画、千と千尋の神隠しにも縁があるようです。私はこのホテルとは何の関係もありませんが、一人の父親として一押しです。

Aeruyado Takamatsu in Kusatsu This hotel markets itself online as a boutique hotel in Kusatsu. However, upon check-in, we realised that it was very far from any nice boutique hotel. The room was so small and spartan that we had to move small pieces of furniture out to the tiny balcony in order to accommodate our luggage so that we had walking space. The room pictured online which we booked was not honoured. The room allocated to us faced the car park with no view and a glaring street lamp shone right into our room whole night long. They offered pathetic value for a package of over JPY 42,000. Food was bad. Dinner was served in another hotel which they called Sister Lodge which was a good 5 minutes walk away. Imagine if it was raining or snowing heavily, it would be so inconvenient to walk to the dinner place. Dinner offered was buffet with some set items. The quality of ingredients and taste of food served was not on par as the ones offered at good ryokans, and for a package of above JPY 40,000, it is way below par. Breakfast was again pathetic. We had a choice of mains selected from 3 options given (2 slices of roast beef or scramble egg or omelette). The roast beef served was tiny and tough. The scramble egg served was too watery. I had to request for a change to omelette. The rest was buffet from a small spread. We went to more than 10 ryokans for this trip. The room and board offered by this hotel was the worst we encountered. Everything was below par standard provided by any decent Japanese ryokan for the price tag. The pictures on the website was deceiving and the actual outdoor hot tub was much smaller than the pictures. I will NOT recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. A strong NO NO NO!

Large Japanese style family room was good, though the hard pillows were hard even by the standards of a traditional futon pillow. The hotel is large and overall the facilities are good, even if there is a somewhat North Korean vibe to the very large public areas and decor. Baths were functional, but the water is excellent especially in the small outside bath which is very sulphurous. Food was rather average given the cost. Dinner is a combination of items from the buffet (which were fine if you got them when freshly prepared) and shabushabu made at the table. Breakfast was rather chaotic, but that might have been a function of the large group of tourists from China that were staying at the hotel. Overall, a decent if slightly institutional onsen.

三連休の後半で一泊しました。 ペット同宿可で、部屋に温泉風呂が付いているお宿でした。 お部屋はとても清潔で、ペット（トイプードル２匹）もゆったり過ごすことができる広さです。 角部屋だったのでお部屋も明るくて良い感じ。 室内の評価は４をあげたいところですが。 室内のお風呂は『半露天風呂』との事ですが、 普通のお風呂場の窓が大きいイメージ。※写真参照 そこまではOK ですが、お湯が水道水でした。 チェックインの際に説明があり、 建物の配管が劣化するほどの強酸性の泉質なので、 お部屋のお湯は水道水の温水を混ぜてあります、と説明されましたが、温泉感はゼロ。 匂いもしません。 ここまで薄められているならそれは『温泉ではない』です。 大浴場（10人程が入れる浴場）が１Ｆにあり、 そちらは源泉掛け流しなので、入ると瞬間的に表皮が溶ける感じでぬるぬるします。 源泉が素晴らしいので、もったいないなぁと感じました。 アメニティは最低限用意されています。 （シャンプー、リンス、ボディーソープ等） お部屋には使い捨て歯ブラシ、髭剃り、ブラシ、ボディータオル。バスローブにタオル類は揃っています。 問題はお食事。 朝夕二食付きしました。 共にバイキング形式でしたが、ビジネスホテル級のメニューですね。 メインがすき焼きでお鍋が運ばれてきて、豚肉と少々のお野菜にお豆腐が入っていました。 とてもとても甘いタレで、これが残念過ぎた。 全体的なお味も家庭料理以下だなと思います。 天ぷらやお刺身があり、そこに救われた感じです ※こちらも写真参照 バイキングのデザートで、イチゴがありましたが お食事の後半で取りに行ったらほとんど無くなったいて、イチゴの追加を聞いたら『もうありません』と言われ残念でした。 ２０時〜団体さんの予約が入っているそうで、そちらの分に残したのでしょう。 それでも、価格に見合っていれば５の評価ですが 一泊一人40000円。 チェックインの際、荷物をお部屋まで持っていくのを手伝ってもくれません。 同価格ならもっとまともなお宿はたくさんあります。 間違いなく、もう利用しません。 この内容でこの価格は 週末に掛かる連休

We stayed here for 4nights and enjoyed the convenience of this place. We had a rented car and parking was easy. Room was spacious and heating was very good especially in winter nights. The owners gave us free breakfast on a Sunday and it was very nice gesture. The staff and owner tried their very best to make us feel comfortable, and they are the only ones in Kusatsu that speak a little bit of English to us. All in all, this place was very convenient and fairly accessible. Thanks for having us, will surely return.

初めての草津 湯畑周辺のホテル旅館はすべて満室でスパックスを見つけて予約しました リゾートマンションの2フロア―だけがホテルになっています 東京から特急とバスでの移動でしたが、歩いてホテルに辿り着くのは 老体にはなかなかの苦行でした 後で聞いたら、ホテルとバスターミナル間は送迎があるそうです チェックインまで時間があったので荷物を預かってもらって湯畑を見に ホテルから湯畑やお店が並ぶところまでは10分掛からずに行けますが 坂道が多くて疲れます 西の河原はすぐ近くです 部屋は和室で広くて快適 お風呂は小さいですがしょっぱいお湯でとても身体が温まります 食事は夕食朝食ともレストランの個室で提供されました 夕事は一般的な和食です 事前に追加した鮎を蓼酢で食べました 落ち鮎は美味しかったけど塩焼きにしてもらえば良かったかな 朝食も和食で、朝はパンとコーヒ派の私にはちょっと不満かな コーヒーはラウンジで無料提供でした 坂道を歩くのが苦にならない方で、リーズナブルな価格で草津に宿泊するならお勧め出来るホテルです

First of all, the check in 3pm check out 10 am policy is a bit overkill. It was stated on booking so no surprises, but stil. It's a strong 15 minutes walk with your luggage from the bus terminal to the ryokan.. They say there is a shuttle, yes, but not operated by the ryokan and from 3 pm to 9 pm... I arrived at 11:30 am, no one was there, I had to wait for 10 minutes for someone to arrive by car. A young guy very disrespectful entered the ryokan .I speak japanese, far from perfect but enough to understand how rude this guy was from a japanese perspective ( I live in japan) and as well from a foreigner perspectice. No hello (I said hello first), just a sentence stating that the checkin is at 3pm. I wanted to leave my luggage, as everyone does when arriving before the check in time. I had to explain I already knew about the checking time and that I just wanted to leave my luggage. He answered me with disdain ”ok” without any politeness or even looking at me.. When I went back at 3pm an older guy was there, way more polite. He gave me the rules of the ryokan in english on a paper. First sentence of the rules : if you exceed the check out time by 10 minutes you will be charged 1000 yen. It’s a rule ok, but as a first sentence it sets a certain atmosphere… Booking said there was a private bathroom. It’s not true, there is no bathroom, there is just a sink without hot water.. It was also stated there was no breakfast. It’s true, you can’t eat overthere. Part of the ryokan experience is that you can experience traditional food (not my first ryokan). It was said in the rules, you can ask the day before for a ride at the bus station to the staff in the evening. Well this ryokan is like a ghost establishment, there is nobody at the reception… Of course when you leave in the morning, still nobody at the reception… I don’t recommend this establishment...

Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this inn, while the furniture /wooden shelves are dated, it is clean and spacious and comfortable. The rooms are fantastically large, with a living room area with a giant TV and lounging sofa. The low table provided ample space to lay out all the things you need for your stay. There is also a shower and toilet in your room, yukatas, towels, hairdryer, etc. It is suitable for up to 4 people staying together, and also suitable for families. The owner/ staff of the ryokan are wonderfully hospitable and speak excellent English. He introduced himself and explained how to get a private onsen room. He also thoughtfully installed Nintendo games in my room to help pass the time till bedtime, I got super Mario. Onsen: There are 3 private onsen rooms, and a system where a closed door means the onsen is occupied, while an open one means you can use it. The doors are lockable of course. There is no time limit on how long you can use it, or how many times you can use it. Outside the onsen room area is amenities like water and another large sitting area where you can wait for an onsen room if all are occupied. There are wonderful vintage arcade games that are lovingly maintained by the owner, such as Pac-Man. Sleep: The futon beds are a layer of foam mattress above a thick memory foam mattress, which were very comfortable and I slept well. Even though there were children in the room next door, I couldn’t hear them at all. Did not book any meals there so can’t comment on the food. The staff/ owner, knowing that I didn’t book meals, very generously offered maps of good restaurants nearby within Kuwait’s that I could go. On checkout, knowing that I hadn’t had breakfast, the staff/ owner gave me a voucher for free coffee at a small coffee shop n nearby. The thoughtfulness of the staff/ owner is very much appreciated and made my stay memorable.
