Speck Bangkok is a lovely hostel located at the Soi Sukhumvit 33/1. It is about 3-minute walk from Phrom Phong BTS station Exit 5, turn right when you see the Robin Hood pub. If you are travelling with suitcases, you may like to make good use of the elevator or escalator in the EmQuartier shopping mall at Exit 1. We stayed at a family room for 2 nights. It is a decent room with one double bed and two single beds (bunk bed). This is an ensuite with a clean bathroom. If I have to be picky, the only 3 shortcomings would be its unstable temperature of shower, low washing basin (tall people or elderly people may find it difficult), and the low noise of the aircon. As for the shared toilets, the folding door may be a bit tricky. (Oh right, FYI: they have ladies floors.) That said, they did not affect my very good impression of the hostel. You have to enter the hostel with your keycard, so it may take a little longer when you first arrived. The receptionist was polite and helpful, and the check-in process was smooth. To go to the upper floors, we will need to change to the hostel slippers that would be sterilized regularly. Simple breakfast (with cornflakes, milk, bread and butter) is served on the 2nd floor. There is also a hot dish available upon request. We had pork congee on the first morning and fried egg and sausage on the second morning. If you prefer a full English breakfast, you may go to the Irish pub next door. This Japanese alley is frequented by many Japanese and Westerners. There are a second-hand Japanese bookstore, a pharmacy, 7-11 convenience store and plenty Japanese restaurants (such as the very popular Kobe Tontek) nearby. Opposite to Speck is Watts, a 60-baht store. A minute away is a Japanese supermarket, the very popular bakery Custard Nakamura. 5-minute walk away are two high-end shopping malls (with a wide range of restaurants catering to people with different budgets), EmQuartier and Emporium connecting to the BTS station. Despite the many pubs in the street, I felt safe in the neighbourhood. One thing I really like about Speck is that we could feel respected among our fellow hostellers. Hostellers respect each other's space and wouldn't make much noises in public area. If you are a responsible budget traveller but not at all into partying, this may be a perfect hostel for you.

I love the Sukhumvit area because its centrally located to the malls and to the BTC. This hotel is a litttle bit of walk down the street which was a little annoying when we were lugging back our shopping bags :) . But if you dont intend on shopping like we did then i think its great. The hotel itself is adorable, there are cute little touches through-out the hotel and in the room that make it a bit more unique than a typical hotel in the area (aka Dream hotel for eg). My friend and I opted to stay in a Mini Suite which was around $300 for four nights for two people which is VERY reasonable in March 2019. The room was HUGE and perfect for the two of us as we shopped and chatted and enough room for the two of us to do our makeup and get ready. Bathroom was quite large for a BKK hotel which was welcome The front desk ladies are so nice and VERY helpful. We realized that Soi Polo Chicken (YOU HAVE TO TRY IT - amazing fried chicken with crispy garlic and perfect rice just amazing) delivered so we were able to get delivery to the hotel late one night and the ladies were so incredibly helpful and got us plates and napkins etc. Down the street there are some good coffee places and amazing spas at the end of the street which I would highly recommend. All in all great location, would come back if I wasnt doing a shopping haul :)

Spoiler alert - I've had significant problems with Marriott recently. We tried Best Western as much out of desperation as anything, using the BW status match to get Diamond Elite. Conclusion is one word - amazing! I've tried status matches before but they have rarely paid off. The Best Western offer and outcomes though are superb. We were matched immediately to the top tier and were offer a new promotion as soon as we joined. Took it and now have 10,000 points on a roll and just booked our next stay for the end of the month. Try it... it's a great offer! To the hotel... I used to stay on Soi 18 a decade o so ago and had forgotten this little corner of the Sukhumvit area. The world has changed drastically since then but Soi 20 has signs of life and so we were quite happy when we rolled up to the BW Plus @ 20. It is not a big property, there are (very) limited parking options and it doesn't have an onsite catering facility that is open. But... we were upgraded immediately to a suite and those rooms, for the price we paid, would be hard to beat in any property in central Bangkok. Large lounge with a desk; large bathroom - with a bath where I fell asleep one night it was that comfortable! - and double sinks... all the basics there and then the separate bedroom is large and well-appointed. It is not a new property and there were some maintenance issues that needed resolving like some plug sockets not working and no bath plug. But for goodness sake... we paid less than 1500 baht and would have paid three times that (and currently much more, what IS going on with Marriott in Bangkok?) for less facilities along Sukhumvit. The hotel doesn't have F&B but does get a 20% discount at The Deck next door and we had a very decent supper there the second night, good quality food and a broad menu. Compliments also to Kawin, who checked us in the first night and was doing Reception almost single-handedly. No fuss, no bother and very good service. Thank you Kawinm Best Western and we're booked to go back in a couple of weeks time, fingers crossed for that complimentary upgrade (again!). Final message to my friends at Marriott - Best Western are eating your lunch, guys.

I have to stay here for a business trip around Asok road. I called to hotel first to ask about parking lots. Staff were friendly talking and very helpful. They upgraded my room after I checked-in. The room was great with a bit thin wall so I can hear noise outside so clear. But it was not that bad. It was still a good place to stay.

Location is excellent! Located right next to BTS Phloen Chit Station and it is easy to get grab and somehow ”avoided” the terrible traffic in bangkok at times. However, the only downside is the lift servicing the hotel. It is extremely slow and one was faulty during my stay. And the noise of traffic can be heard from 12th floor. Light sleeper should probably take a slight note of that. Other than that I do not really have any complaints. Thank you!

Anda boleh mendengar banyak bunyi di luar mungkin kerana pengudaraan. Tab mandinya kecil sedikit. Terdapat dua jalur kuasa berhampiran cermin. Ia bukan di sebelah katil. Terdapat dua botol plastik, tetapi tiada kopi segera dll. Anda mesti membawa anda sendiri. Oleh itu, saya kecewa apabila saya tinggal di sana buat kali pertama. Terdapat 7-Eleven di bawah stesen, jadi tidak mengapa. Jika anda menggunakan hotel ini sebagai pangkalan anda, anda boleh menggunakan BTS atau MRT dari ARL, atau anda boleh menaiki bas dari jalan di hadapan hotel, jadi jika anda tidak mempunyai kipas, anda boleh pergi ke Siam Amazing Park. untuk 8 baht. Anda juga boleh pergi ke pusat dalam arah yang bertentangan. Pengangkutan adalah mudah. Terdapat juga pasar malam kecil di bawah stesen. Kemudahannya sangat lama, jadi bersiaplah. Terdapat seekor burung di luar tingkap yang telah lama mati, hanya tinggal bulunya sahaja. Pengangkutan adalah mudah, dan anda boleh menaiki BTS terus di depan pintu. Sarapan pagi hampir tidak sedap dan kopi tidak dikisar baru. Saya ingin mendapatkan beg untuk meletakkan pakaian kotor, tetapi papan tanda mengatakan bahawa untuk perlindungan alam sekitar, mereka tidak menggunakan beg dobi plastik, tetapi menggunakan beg kain boleh guna semula. Jika anda perlu mengambilnya, sila bayar XX yuan. Saya terfikir sendiri bahawa saya mempunyai rasa perlindungan alam sekitar yang kuat, tetapi mengapa terdapat dua beg plastik di dalam tong sampah? Saya hampir meminta mereka mendapatkan beg sampah untuk digunakan.

Hotel is clean and a little bit away from the noisy Chinatown street. But is still very near to all the night streets along Chinatown street. There is a Starbucks at the hotel lobby and 7-eleven opposite the hotel. Highly recommend if you want a spacious hotel room with lots of food choices and night market around.

スタッフのサービス、ロケーション、ベッドの清潔感はよかったです。 特にスタッフは親切で、エレベーターがない分荷物を運ぶのを手伝ってくれました。 しかし水回りの汚さと、宿泊客層の悪さは酷いと思います。 おそらく毎日掃除していないのではないかという汚さで、トイレは流されてないことも多々ありました。 また、宿泊スペースの前にはカードキーをかざすロックがついてるのですが、朝の4時過ぎにそのドアをドンドンと叩きながら騒ぐ客に2日連続遭遇し、怖かったです。 また、エアコンが13:00-17:00と22:00-6:00しかつかないうえに扇風機もないのでシンプルに暑かったです。 トータルして考えると、女性にはおすすめできません。 男性で衛生面全く気にならない人はいいのではないでしょうか。

Hotel is in the prime location but as per the photos in the app while booking it was not like same. This is first time when a hotel charge for luggage handling when you checkout and go for 3 to 4 hours outside before taking the flight. Beds are making sound while you take a side also.
