Just returned from the Sorrell Merian, staying there from Sept26/29, this is a very nice hotel with everything spotlessly clean and typical of a Swiss 4star Hotel, the hotel is situated in a glorious spot, directly on the River Rheine and next to the bridge over the river, the room I had was a good size and was fully carpeted, with a very comfortable double bed, 3seater settee, desk fan, wall lights, Nespresso coffee/tea machine, 32inch t.v.,

We stayed here for just one night as part of a group, but it would be my number one choice should I ever return to Basel. It is across the road from the main station, and the trams are also just across the road, if you wish to travel around the city (free using the hotel guest card). The room was comfortable, and quiet, even though it overlooked the main road. Breakfast! What to say? The most lovely array of so many different foods in a bright, clean dining area. There was a large selection of beautifully prepared fresh fruit, lots of different breads, and so many savouries -cheeses, cold meats, smoked salmon, avocado, eggs, as well as some hot food. One young waiter said it was his first day, but he was well trained and spoke excellent English. Thank you.

Novotel was a nice place to stay for our overnight in Basel. Easy check-in and check-out so we had no problems at reception. Our train left very early the next day so they kindly prepared our breakfast to take away which included 2 sandwiches and 2 bottles of water for each person. I can't say much about the facilities since we didn't get to explore but the hotel was a convenient location to get to Basel SBB. The reception staff also helped us book a taxi which we were thankful for as fewer trams went around the city so early in the morning. We were also given a Visitor Pass to travel around the city so the trams were free and we got a discount at the museum we went to. The only downside was there wasn't a convenience store nearby or maybe there was but we didn't get to see one immediately. Thanks, Novotel!

This hotel is within walking distance from the SBB train station, staff at the hotel are very friendly and speak very good English. I was very grateful for the early check in without any quibble with the receptionist, and she explained how we can get around. Room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold foods, with variations every day. I would definitely stay here again. The only discomfort with our room was the temperature in our room was set to 19C, which was comfortable during the day, but was a bit too hot for the night for us, and we couldn’t lower the temperature down.

The stay was ok except for that fact that we left our charger for the toothbrush there and it was never returned. We reported it the same day as we had already left Basel when we noticed. We called 10 times in total only to be told a different story everytime. They confirmed us they had found the charger and would return it through Swiss Post to where we live. Its been over 2 months now, just to be told that its been sent 2 weeks ago and this is now a problem of either the Swiss Post (ridicolous!) or that I had given them the wrong address. Fine we called several times to confirm the address. Thats one of the most basic things in Hotellerie, sorry but you need to get that right. If people dont feel at home or safe, then its not a good hote. 1 star for that - and the price goes to the manager who took care of our problem. We wont be coming back.

The Volkshaus Hotel is simply perfect. ALL staff are very friendly, helpful, speak English perfectly as well as German. Rooms are just beautiful, clean and modern. The bar is quaint and has great energy. It is a must to also eat at their restaurant! Erich, our waiter, was superior! He made great recommendations as well as provided fantastic service. This hotel is also very centrally located to easily catch the trolley system and trolley 6 took us to all attractions for FREE! I highly recommend!

During our stay in Switzerland, we went to the restaurant in the groundfloor several times because we like the efficient service and the good food. Try the veal liver with hashbrown potatoes (Roesti) , it's gorgeous, the liver is tender and the potatoes are crispy. The filets of perch (Egli) however were a bit dry. In summer you can sit and eat outside in the shade on the busy Clarastrasse watching the people passing by. The service is friendly and you may eat at any time which is still rather unusual for regular - not fastfood - restaurants in Switzerland.

The tram stop is just few metre walk and the location is perfect. BUT, I wont recommend the attached restaurant at all !! ------ RACIST RESTAURANT STAFF !! Date-14.05.2023, Time-19:24 First, the restaurant staff asks if we have reservation or not. After we said ‘No’, he made us sit at a corner of the restaurant, which really dusty and like a storage corner for the restaurant stuff like menus, cutlery etc etc. We were sitting separate from the “white-skinned” guests. After us, when other guests with NO reservation arrived, they were made to sit with other “white” customers. Now, coming to the food. We ordered 3 Risotto Milanese. The rice was so hard and not at all cooked. We even couldn’t finish 2/3rd of the food. I want to ask the “Cook” if he knows how to boil the rice. Show a YouTube tutorial video of boiling rice to a 15 year old kid and I am sure that he can cook better after watching the tutorial. We complained to the restaurant staff. He apologized with his fake smile and got us the bill and asked to pay. Total bill: CHF 86.10 A complete Sh*t racist experience for me and my parents with worst food in Switzerland. It was my first time experience of Risotto for my parents and they decided to never try Risotto again ever. After getting out of restaurant, we went to bakery to buy some bread for dinner.

I had a fantastic weekend at the Krafft a warm welcome from friendly staff delightful decor and a great room. The location is perfect for exploring Basel and enjoying the Christmas markets . Delicious breakfast overlooking the river. It was a wonderful weekend start to finish I'll definitely be back. The travel ticket you get means getting around is easy on the trams Basel is also a very walkable city and the hotel is perfectly located next to the river crossing the bridges on foot or by tram and bus or even the lovely boats that zigzag the river

Nach fast 50 Jahren wurde das Hotel Basilisk in der 3. Generation verkauft. Ein Hotel voller Geschichten und Anekdoten wird mir in Erinnerung bleiben. Als KV Lernende durfte ich meinen Abschluss und Einstieg in die Hotellerie Welt bei der Familie Cavegn machen und mein Weg ging immer wieder beim Basilisk vorbei. Die Schliessung als Angestellte mitzuerleben ist der schönste Abschied. Nach 24 Jahren Hotellerie ist nun die Zeit gekommen einen neuen Weg einzuschlagen. Danke für die schöne Zeit.

This hotel was one of the nicest we stayed at across 4 cities in Switzerland during our family holiday trip. The location is ideal, right in the heart of old town and it is surrounded by a number of shops, restaurants, bakeries, etc. The service was fantastic as the front desk employees were helpful with directions, helping with bookings, and any general information. My family stayed in a junior suite, which was spacious, well appointed and extremely comfortable. All fixtures and furniture were very modern and in great condition. The room had a separate living area with space for a twin bed and couch. The bathroom was large and the shower water pressure was fantastic. The bed was comfortable and we also had a nice view of old town from our windows. When we return to Basel in the future, we will absolutely be staying here again!

We stayed at Hotel D for two nights and would definitely stay again. The hotel was small, with friendly staff and a wonderful lobby. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. Our room had a nice view. It was close to public transportation and easy walking to local, historic sights. Very clean!
