New Hotel Charlemagne

Extremely disappointed on our 3rd anniversary We decided to spend our Easter Weekend in Belgium an so, to spend our first night to a 4star hotel. We found new hotel charlemagne, unfortunately rated too high for what they offered, or at least to us. When we arrived we were told there was no parking (although we specifically looked for that before booking and hence that’s why we chose that hotel). We have been given the keys for our room afterwards. From the corridor you could see the door was opened before we went in. Crums on the floor, and the cleaner turned up shouting that it “was clean” in french. Went to reception to request to be moved. We went to our second room. The first thing you could notice when entering the room was the smell of cigarette. Whoever stayed there before us, smoked. The aircon did not work so my partner s been freezing the whole time. We went again to the reception and we have been given the third room. Finally the third room was cleaner, but the aircon still didn’t work. They had a small heater from Rowenta to heat the room. In a 4 stars hotel!!!! Also, were we were, the balcony door would no lock so in terms of safety, that was not great. I want to thank to Simona for finding my coat as I have left it in one of rooms while switching rooms. She has been great in managing our situation and other guests at the same time. Just to add: how a 4 star hotel has only 1 receptionist checking in, running up and down, dealing with complaints etc. all at the same time? Or one cleaner whom is expected to clean all the rooms and not miss anything? The only thing that keeps this hotel open are the receptionist and cleaner. There was no management whatsoever. How is it safe to only have one person at the reception? For a 4 star hotel, the experience was awful, we will definitely not return and we won’t recomend this hotel to anyone especially if you have children. Unless you want them to freeze in the rooms. Luckily we chose, for our trip to spend each night in a different city, therefore we havent booked this one for more than one night.

Great service at the hotel from the reception to the cocktail bar to the breakfast staff. Rooms we’re comfortable with a comfy bed and all you require for a few nights away. Location was €10 taxi from Centraal Station or a 20min walk through a few lovely parks. Great park on doorstep of hotel with ducks and a large pond and 3-4 min walk from Tootbus stop. Variety of restaurants/places to drink outside of the hotel away from the busy central area.

stayed here for a week's visit to Brussels. First time in Belgium. Location is pretty good - v handy for train and metro and some restaurants around but the hotel itself is very dated. The breakfast is extremely expensive so we did not bother and ate at a cafe nearby. Our rooms were big but in need of new furniture, carpets, decor, bathroom. The drawers on the furniture were screwed closed! 2 fridges and a hob but nothing to cook with and no cutlery crockery - just as wel we did not want to self-cater. You get 2 coffee sachets when you arrive and 2 disposable paper cups. After that you have to ask for more. Mostly, the reception were fine and gave me coffee sachets but one guy said it was only on arrival and although he gave me more, said I was not entitled! Wouldn't stay there again unless v cheap, say £50 per night.

When I arrived I was greeted by a very polite and pleasant staff. I was freely upgraded to a better room. My stay was partly booked by me and partly by my employer. I was allowed to stay in the same room for the whole stay. My room was quiet, bed was super nice, everything was +++.Breakfast was versatile and you could enjoy a garden view. I will definetly be back!

Very good hotel, quiet, clean, tidy. The staff is nice, kind, hardworking, and yet you hardly know about them. The rooms are furnished to a very good standard. The location is excellent for anyone who needs to be close to European institutions.
