Hotel berhampiran Manoir des Gens d'armes, Caen

My wife found this hotel listing as we were planning a trip to Normandy to visit D-Day attractions on the 80th anniversary of this momentous event. Here, we could get king beds and there was a favorable cancellation policy (which we didn’t have to use). On the map before going the hotel was easy to find but for some reason Google wasn’t as helpful as usual when we arrived in Caen. In fact, you have to drive through a pedestrian walkway to get to the front of the hotel to drop off your bags. However, as we found out the day after arrival, the hotel is located at the end of a huge area brimming with shops, restaurants, bars, bakeries, etc. The hotel didn’t have any parking but there was an underground commercial parking lot a couple of blocks from the hotel - easily accessible. We didn’t go with the breakfast in the hotel before arrival but opted to try it the first day we were there - it was an awesome breakfast supervised by some very nice women. The front desk staff was friendly and courteous and spoke English like natives. In summary, this was a very nice, clean hotel in an amazing location with an excellent breakfast service, and very capable staff. We’d recommend this hotel to anyone without reservation.

LOCATION: On the Place de la République, it was with within easy walking distance of major sights: Abbaye aux Hommes and Hôtel de Ville in one direction, Abbaye aux Dames and the Château, the remnants of Guillaume le Conquérant's (William the Conqueror's) and his missus, Mathilde, fortified bolthole, in the other. Bayeux is just a 20 minute train ride away and not to be missed: the amazing tapestry is still delighting the masses with its story after a thousand years and nearby is one of the most elegant Gothic cathedrals in Europe. ROOM: The large de luxe room with two sets of French windows onto a small balcony overlooking the Place de la République was extremely comfortable. Large bathroom with plenty of room for toiletries. SERVICE: Amiable and smiling throughout with welcoming, knowledgable reception staff. BREAKFAST: Included in the de luxe room rate I'd opted for and good value. France is a carnivore's paradise but as a vegetarian, I was well satisfied with the selection of summer fruits and cheeses.

We were on the Leger Battlefield tour to the D Day landings and they used this hotel. It is very good indeed. Reception staff speak excellent English and are very obliging. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The shower cabinets are small and tight. Of note is the excellent restaurant. A fine breakfast was provided and a good menu was offered every evening. We are in the hotel on three nights and enjoyed buffet starters and sweets as well as a choice of three main courses. Staff in the restaurant were excellent, smiling and attentive.

Clean, friendly, one-night no-frills stay with excellent breakfast. A good budget option for a stay before ferry or to explore Normandy beaches. Plenty of car parking space. Apartments were functional but clean and the reception staff very friendly.

Ottimo hotel, confortevole e moderno . Curata anche la pulizia. Molto buona anche la colazione. La signora della reception parla un discreto italiano ed è molto gentile come il resto del personale. Lo consiglio anche se dista dal centro quasi 2 km, però si trova vicino al memoriale ed è dotato di un comodo parcheggio gratuito.

Bonjour, réservation 1 mois avant pour une chambre lit jumeau pour mon fils et moi. à notre arrivée pas de chambre de ce type disponible donc obligation de payer une autre chambre 170 euros les 2 jours ! c'est parfaitement intolérable ! c'est du vol manifeste. La première nuit l’hôtel accueillait un groupe scolaire, obligé de demander le calme en appelant la réception à 22H les enfants criaient et couraient dans les couloirs. à 5, 50 euros le petit déjeuné, vous ne trouverez que de la frugalité, pas de choix et produits bas de gamme. Le personnel est toutefois très sympathique mais l'expérience est inacceptable. à la fin du séjour on vous propose une note à régler avec la moitié de la facture déjà réglé en arrivant ... Voyageant beaucoup avec mon entreprise c'est l'expérience la plus désagréable en hôtel, que j'ai pu vivre.

We stayed as a group of 30 from the 5th June to the 8th 2022. The hotel was spotless and comfortable with a very good value restaurant next to it and some others just a short walk away. The main plus was the staff. Everyone we spoke with was very friendly and helpful, more so than normal. We ordered some deliveroo food and a flash storm meant it was cancelled. The hotel receptionist offered to make us some food, which was fantastic! We would certainly stay again on any return trip.
