We stayed here for one night on route through France. On first glance the hotel is contemporary and thoughtfully decorated. The staff speak good English and were welcoming. We were on the second floor and our room had limited head space due to the eves. The bathroom is open plan with a separate toilet that was so high our toes only just reached the floor! The bed was very comfortable and the aircon welcome on a summers night. However our shower was either scolding hot or freezing cold - no happy medium, making it unusable. We reported it to reception but weren’t offered an alternative room and the promised visit from maintenance didn’t materialise. There was no reduction in our bill to reflect this. Breakfast was €18 per person and a typical (but fairly limited) continental set up. There was a self service egg boiler but no option for omelettes or poached eggs offered. In hindsight a croissant and coffee at a local Boulanger would have been a much better and cheaper option. Caen is a lovely town and we’d like to come back for longer, but we won’t return to this hotel.

Nous avons séjourné dans cet hôtel afin de visiter les côtes normandes. Hôtel bien situé, calme : nous avions une chambre côté cour. Les chambres sont très petites, impossibilité de laisser les fenêtres ouvertes car elles ne sont pas oscillo-battantes. Finalement, heureusement que le temps était maussade, nous n’avons pas souffert de la chaleur ! Salle de bain également très petite : la lunette fermée des WC sert d’appui pour mettre la trousse de toilette… Petit déjeuner basic : il est tjs dommage de ne pas trouver de produits régionaux. Le pain est industriel, tout comme les viennoiseries.

LOCATION: On the Place de la République, it was with within easy walking distance of major sights: Abbaye aux Hommes and Hôtel de Ville in one direction, Abbaye aux Dames and the Château, the remnants of Guillaume le Conquérant's (William the Conqueror's) and his missus, Mathilde, fortified bolthole, in the other. SERVICE: Amiable and smiling throughout with welcoming, knowledgable reception staff. BREAKFAST: Included in the de luxe room rate I'd opted for and good value. France is a carnivore's paradise but as a vegetarian, I was well satisfied with the selection of summer fruits and cheeses.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome at this hotel. The hotel has car parking under the property and the person on the front desk ( apologies I can't remember her name) was very helpful in guiding us into the car park and even carried some of our luggage up to the reception area. The rooms are very comfortable and very quiet, the breakfast was fresh with many options to choose from. There was a very helpful gentleman at reception who , on several occasions, was kind enough to book a couple of restaurants for us. Even when he was very busy. The only small issue we had with our room was the temperature of the heating, it was a little too warm for us. When I asked about this at reception I was told the the air conditioning is turned off in September and I fan would be brought up to the room. The fan never arrived, however we were compensated for this when we checked out of the hotel. Try the restaurant Beouf and Cow, it's fantastic and only a short walk from the hotel Overall the Best Western Plus Hotel Moderne is a very comfortable, quiet and centrally located hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting Caen.

Buon hotel, personale gentile. Si trova in zona abbastanza centrale. La mia stanza era una singola, alquanto piccola, ma pulita. Tuttavia aveva la particolarità di avere la doccia del bagno nella stanza da letto e quindi chi usava il water non aveva grande privacy. Non so se è una caratteristica solo delle singole, perché io viaggiavo solo quindi non ho avuto esigenze di privacy La colazione era buona, tutto nella buona media.

The room had a comfortable bed and was carpeted. The only drawback was that the windows don’t open at all and the air conditioning was noisy. The breakfast buffet was excellent and above average for ibis styles. The hotel is very conveniently located for the station if you use the back entrance to the station. There wasn’t a great choice of restaurant s in the immediate area on a Sunday afternoon although there was a cafe with delicious hot chocolates and cakes etc nearby. It is not too far from the town centre for a greater choice of eateries. The receptionist was very helpful

Hôtel bien situé à 30 min à pied du centre ville, marché et des restos Très calme si vous prenez une chambre côté cour, très propre . Petit parking qui a le mérite d'être là à défaut des places gratuites dans la rue Petit déjeuner très copieux ahec du choix et à volonté. Et le plus un couple de gérant aux petits soins pour ses clients, très agréable, gentil, avenant, de bons conseils.... Un séjour bien sous tous rapports. The Hotel has three stars outside but I assume this relates to the sister Mercure hotel that is next door but part of the same building. The room we had was meant to be a twin but in all honesty it was more like a single room. Storage is very limited and the bathroom was very tired and dated looking. The Hotel bar shuts early and may not open at all so you may struggle for a nightcap if one takes your fancy. The good points of the hotel are the underground parking that they have (make sure you book it) and the breakfast was great, the lady who looks after the breakfasts is really helpful. Location wise the Hotel is a good central location and most places are a walk. Comparing it to the premier inn we stayed at in the UK en-route, the premier inn was miles better and 40 pounds cheaper per night.
