Hotel berhampiran Rondevlei Nature Reserve, Cape Town

This was our last stop on a 4 week trip around the Cape. The hotel comprises original buildings all set within vineyards - which you can explore on foot or by bike. We had what I think was a superior room. It was spacious, with a small sitting area in the room but disappointingly the first hotel we stayed in with no terrace or balcony. Having said that, there was lots of storage space and a large bathroom with a great shower. There are 2 restaurants on site - Bistro 1681 & Tryn. Both are good but we preferred the tapas in 1682. Wine was more pricey than elsewhere, but still reasonable based on UK prices. We ate breakfast in Tryn, only realising on the final day we could also have had this in 1682. The breakfast menu was very good, and you could also pick different options to have exactly what you wanted. However, the service was extremely slow. The order would be taken, and the first course (berries, yogurt etc) would arrive - sometimes all at once, sometimes a waitress would have to go back to fetch a missing item. However there would then be an interminable wait for the second course and even that was not complete at times. How long does it take to make an omelette? We did complain, and both managers we spoke to listened to our comments but clearly there is a communication issue between the waiters & the kitchen. It was not unusual for breakfast to take 90 minutes! For us golfers it meant careful planning, and we did wonder whether an arrangement could be made to have breakfast at the golf club. There is a very good menu at the golf club. We were told by the hotel that the kitchen closed at 6pm, but we discovered it was 8pm so had two meals there, which were very good value. The one thing that is missing is a bar area for pre/post dinner drinks or a coffee. There is a small terrace but that's about it. There is a pool area with a limited number of sunbeds. Plenty of towels and enough shade. When we booked, I noticed there was a shuttle into Capetown, which was one of the reasons for booking. However this is only during the day and one trip each way, which can take up to 45 minutes depending on traffic. At night you need a taxi. This was disappointing - and we didn't appreciate how long it too to get to The Waterfront. However there are plenty of Uber's. The hotel shuttle will take you anywhere within a 5km radius, free of charge. It would be nice if this could be extended to Constantia Village which is 8km away, as this is the closest decent shopping centre (without going into Capetown) and also has numerous restaurants in the vicinity. The golf course is good, and is a 5 minute walk from the hotel). Hotel guests do get discounted rates which made it very reasonable. There are buggies and also push trolleys available to hire - and the course is walkable. Greens were challenging. We took advantage of the complementary wine tasting which was great fun. Gouwa (hope that's correct) was in charge of ours, and she was fantastic. V

Incredible in every aspect. Beautiful property Spotlessly clean Perfect setting. The gardens are delightful. Views from the room were stunning. Walks through the vineyards to Groot Constantia, a joy. Attention to detail is second to none Jacques and Jenn are charming hosts and wonderful company Jacques is an absolute gentleman, he went out of his way ensure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Pinto is the best chauffer All the team were helpful and friendly. Thank you to everyone at Devonport house for taking such good care of us and for making our stay unforgettable. Already counting down to being back next year.

This is the 2nd time we’ve stayed here And I can honestly say it was better than the first time if that is possible. The staff are friendly and so accommodating. The breakfast is amazing and the Morii restaurant is a taste experience, well worth a visit. As a wheelchair user, the accessibility is perfect, our room did not look in least bit “ disabled’ yet it accommodated my needs. The guest experience manager, Mkho, organised a shower chair for me that made my husband Adam’s caring role much easier and more comfortable for me. Can’t wait to come back.

For people who considering stay here It wasn’t easy to find parking place, registration desk (they will take your biometric data to get access to every door in the building), apartment.. waisting of time after long trip. So be prepared TAKE DRINKING WATER WITH YOUR as you will find tap water in this apartment. Unfortunately IF YOU ARE GOING TO COOK think in advance and bring oil, pepper, salt, seasoning, knife (only bread knife at the kitchen), pan!!! Otherwise cooking impossible 🤷🏻♂️ TEA LOVERS take yours with you (only ordinary black teabags)

the room was so spacious and the ambiance of the frontdesk area was awesome. i liked the friendliness of all staff and the speed in which they delivered services has super impressed me when i asked for a iron, The lady at the restaurant was as impressive when recommended the meal that was the most favourite. Will indeed go back to this hotel

mm stay was as I wanted it to be, quiet and relaxing. The view from the balcony was unbelievably beautiful! The food was delicious, the room service and cleaning is perfect, everything was just as I needed it to be, and I would certainly plan my next visit to the same place.

So, let me start by saying this would have been a five star review but for a matter on the second stay. My wife and I booked three separate stays (safaris in between). Let me start with the best part-Mark their contracted tour operator. He took us all over the Cape Town region and to some hidden gems on our first four night stay. The staff was amazing. Friendly and attentive. Breakfast is great-something for everyone. Relaxing courtyard to chill. Rooms very clean. Comfy beds. They even give you some snacks in room at check in. So when we came for the second stay after our foray into Namibia, the air conditioner on the second floor (we did the two floor loft) did not work. I called the front desk and they sent housekeeping. I was told at first it was working (she stood in front of it-and a long story on the nature of the malfunction). Once she moved away from it she agreed that it was not working (bedroom area was 23C/73.4 F when it was set on 17 from check in through dinner). We were told not other lofts were available to switch to. I could have booked a loft for that night on the Marriott app. BUT, the next morning, they quickly sorted it and day staff apologized. That was the only negative. Everything else has been fantastic. When things go right, it is hard to describe. But all in all-excellent hotel and I would return if I make it to Cape Town again-which the tour operator makes one want to. So a little on that. My wife broke a nail. Mark modified everything and took us to a local mall so she could get her nail fixed. We asked if we could stop for snacks-he took us grocery store-so we had a much larger selection. Like I said, I struggled not giving a five star but I felt the a/c issue warranted a reduction-not the malfunction but how it was handled at first.

Upgraded to a Loft suite. Excellent (once the air conditioner unit was explained). Staff great. Housekeeping a bit too eager. On site restaurant Liberty's seems slow and disorganized, even for South Africa and especially for a Hilton's. Free shuttle to V&A Waterfront every two hours. Walking distance to the Old Biscuit Mill (a Saturday morning must-do). Regular and reliable taxi service around Cape Town at reasonable rates, for drop off and pickup. Airport shuttle. Neighborhood was very safe Don't pre-book tours before you get here; Yasir and his team will take good care of you.
