My husband and I checked into the Best Western Plus in Hinton on May 5 around 4pm. About an hour later the front desk staff said they were on evacuation alert due to wildfires in the area. They advised us to leave and drive further west to Jasper and they were turning people away at the front desk and advising them to go west due to the evacuation alert. I was concerned and asked if we would be reimbursed for the night if we left and both front desk clerks assured us that we would as we were only in the room for an hour or so and did not touch the bed. We drove further west and had to ish for another hotel that night. After a few days I checked my account and I had not been reimbursed. I called the hotel and talked to the manager. She told me that the front desk clerk should not have told us that we would be reimbursed and she could do nothing else about it. We are a retired couple and this is a big expense for us. We feel that we were taken advantage of by this Best Western location. We would suggest you take your business elsewhere in Hinton as there are several hotels close by.
I'll be as detailed as possible. Everything in the room was quite old and some were broken, for example the air conditioner. There was no sign of maintenance. When I first entered the bathroom, I saw stains on the toilet seat. I had to clean the toilet before sitting on it. The air conditioner made an unbearable noise and we had to cover our ears to sleep. It broke down an hour before checkout. The coffee machine was very old and too slow to brew a single cup. The breakfast service was infuriating. The staff did not pay attention if refills for the food were needed. We had to look them up and tell them we ran out of eggs or bread. This was in no way worth 200 dollars a night. Overall, it was a very sad excuse of a hotel.
We stayed for 3 days at the Tara Vista Inn in Hinton, Alberta after being evacuated from the forest fire in Edson, Alberta. After spending the first night in our vehicles it was a true relief to find a facility as great as the Tara Vista was - super clean rooms, comfortable beds, under the circumstances of the evacuation it was great to have a bar fridge and a microwave in the rooms. We had pets and the people at the Tara Vista welcomed the animals with no issues what-so-ever. The facility was so accommodating and made sure that anything that was required was made available. The customer service was top of the line and they made sure that people felt very welcome. Highly recommend the Tara Vista Inn!! Mal & Cathy
I booked through the national reservation line. Was a slow process that started with an impersonal computer asking me questions. Ended with a long spiel trying to get me to prepay for hotel stays in the next 18 months that seemed like a scam. I get it might be a marketing thing, but they should recognize that people will be turned off by this. Arrived at the hotel. We booked a block (15-20 rooms) and they were aware of why we were here (kids hockey tournament). Didn't bother to mention the pool and hot tub were closed. Likely not a big deal for some travelers but a very big deal when you have 20-30 teens in your group. The room is average, what you'd expect but not very well tended, no attention to taking care of the little things. Had an issue the first night with our toilet, it was doing the very slow flush (not completely clogged, but not working properly and would have clogged. When we left in the morning for a game we stopped by the front desk and they said they'd have maintenance go to the room. Got back, nothing had been done. I call downstairs and talk to the same people I talked to in the morning and they tell me the maintenance staff are off today. I explained that one thing we could not do without was a toilet. I asked for a plunger but the clerk said they couldn't leave their station. Ended up having to change rooms. Breakfast was average/blah. They were out of waffle mix, never bothered refilling it. The sausage was obviously microwaved, eggs dry. Muffins still cold/thawing. Looks like they are doing some painting, they just leave all the paint/tools/tarp in the hallway overnight. Many other hotels here in the same range, will end up going somewhere else next time. This hotel just really doesn't seem to care. Wasn't awful, just wasn't good.
