Comfy bed, warm room and nice bathroom. Would definitely stay again if in the area for work.

Arrived at the hotel last Saturday, first impression the car park looked like a building site but I was not out off as it was obvious some improvements must be being made. Lady on reception was very pleasant and said she would check if the room had been cleaned as she was short of cleaning staff, a few minutes later all good and we were checking In however we were then told the restaurant was not opening tonight due to shortage of staff, seems a common theme here, still not being put off we went to our room which was ok, nothing special but it would do. We got up and went to breakfast and while passing reception the lady told us there may be a delay as they were busy, no problem we went and had a seat but it was obvious from the people complaining that something was not quite right. All was revealed when the lady in charge came to tell us there would be no breakfast as the chef had ”done a runner” this was now proper Fawlty towers stuff, so we packed up and went on our way. I wrote to Best western and was told my email was forwarded to the hotel for comment and within 2 days I got the generic apologetic response which I knew was coming, it seems managers have forgotten how to do a personal response, I emailed back and said while I accepted the apology I had paid extra for breakfast and had not received it and while it was not life changing money I should be refunded as a matter of principal as there had been no breakfast, I got a response back saying they would pay it into my bank account, it has not arrived back in my account. Best western, please keep the money it's obvious you need it more than I do, maybe stick it towards some staff, don't treat the public like fools, an apology and refund would have went a long way to accepting that your hotel was sub standard, to anyone booking this hotel I would phone before you arrive and check if the chef has done a runner and if so just book somewhere else as it's over £100 a night for nothing more than a sub standard hotel.

I wish I could review the hotel and restaurant separately because I'd give 4/5 for the hotel and 0/5 for the restaurant. The one positive shared by both was very friendly and helpful staff. They can't be faulted. The hotel room was good and much like as in the photos. The quality of the room wasn't quite as expected, e.g. cheaply decorated and the window surrounds were pretty dirty, but it was fine and made a reasonable alternative to a Premier Inn. Unfortunately the food in the restaurant was dire. Alarm bells rang when I saw the menu - that many dishes and meat at that price doesn't bode well. I played safe and had a veggie lassagne but it had a nasty, ”dark” background taste. The accompanying salad was fine but needed a dressing or just some oil because it was bone dry. 2/5 for dinner. The breakfast selection was limited and a cooked breakfast is clearly the thing here. After cereals I had scrambled eggs on toast. After a very long wait (which was odd because the only other customer received their breakfast long before us), I was given the worst scrambled eggs I've ever seen. The white & yolk weren't properly mixed so there were yellow and white swirls, and the eggs were horrendously overcooked. They were solid. To compund things, the toast under the scrambled eggs wasn't buttered. I'm not a fussy eater but a slab of hard eggs on dry toast is impossible to enjoy. How can anyone get scrambled eggs on toast so wrong? 0/5 for breakfast. Sadly, it will be the PremierInn for me next time because the restaurant was dire and the hotel would have to be amazing to compensate for having to drive somewhere else to eat.

Just had Sunday lunch here. 14 of us and the meal and service was absolutely excellent. We all had a variety of the Sunday lunch menu and it was all delicious. Whatever you do - if you are going here for the lunch don’t have anything to eat before you get there because the servings are large. An all round excellent experience Will definitely return and would highly recommend you eat here

Friendly staff easy checking service, the room was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable received everything that was expected from a hotel was very calm quiet night to wind down in and had amazing night sleep .

Really quirky pub with a warm welcome, good food and friendly locals . OK it's slightly shabby in places and could do with some TLC, but it's clean and great value for money. We had a lovely view of the Abbey. The bed was comfy and we had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked to order. The traditional and veggie breakfasts were great. Will stay again. Thanks to all the lovely staff for a fab Xmas break.
