Edelweiss Guest House

When we entered the guesthouse for check in we were welcomed very warmly and had all the facilities explained very clearly. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a stunning sea view. The guesthouse was quiet and we slept well. The breakfast was hot, plentiful, well cooked and very nice with a good selection. The owner was very friendly and spontaneously left us a congratulations card on our purchase of a property on the island. We were sad to leave this excellent guesthouse and would highly recommend a stay here. It’s very centrally located for all transport links and promenade facilities.

Negatives: - Room small for a twin. - En suite very small - Lot of noise from promenade - Room very warm even with radiator turned off - Couldn't sleep because of heat - but couldn't open window because so noisy outside. - Room and stairwell smelled of motor oil for some reason. - Shabby carpets. Was actually a hole in the floor underneath carpet. - Fussy about servicing rooms. They post a rather passive aggressive note under your door about 'not being able to service your room' if you dare have a lie in on your break. Most places these days either service on request or every third day. Struck me as OTT. - Room I had had roller blind and no curtain. Would loudly rattle if you had window open to try and cool the stuffy room down at night. Should have had proper curtains. - Depressing signage and dated decor in stairwell areas. To be frank looked like some depressing lodging house out of 1970's. Positives - Free parking on prom - Reasonable value - Aside from shabby carpet the room decor was pleasant - Room clean - Simple and efficient online booking system - Simple and efficient key fob entry to front door - Friendly enough staff - Lovely sea views from front rooms - Just set back a few metres from prom - Original Victorian features - Give option to not have breakfast - not everyone wants greasy fry ups first thing. - Fairly generous with complimentary tea, coffee, soap etc...

It's alright. Lovely sea view if you get a front room. Twin room was fair size. Decor a bit dated, and by that I don't mean the lovely original Victorian features, I mean the more modern additions are a bit worn and dated. Nothing out of the ordinary though for these old school guesthouse's and for the price acceptable. But it was quite noisy. To be fair I don't think it's the fault of the guesthouse. There is double glazing and aside from the lift occasionally clunking it was pretty quiet inside the guesthouse. I think the noise is due to being slightly set back from the prom and having tall buildings either side that must act like an amplifier. It was tolerable with the windows shut but once open too loud to sleep with cars speeding on the prom, dogs barking, folk talking as they walk by on the prom. In hot weather when you'd need to have the window open the noise would put me off staying here, in a front room at least. Maybe I'm a light sleeper or am used to quiter locations. What can I say. Just being honest. On another note I liked the fact you could opt out of breakfast. I hate big fried breakfasts and generally don't eat breakfast so it was good to not have to pay for something I don't want. They apoear to want to service your room everyday. Some may like that but I thought it was a bit over zealous. If you put your 'do not disturb sign' on your door - they honour that - but everyday you do that they push a note under your door saying they tried to service your room but couldn't. I didn't really like that arrangement to be honest. I prefer places that have set service days like every third day, or you just ask reception to make up your room as required. Maybe that's nit-picking but personally I did not like that arrangement. I thought the note pushed under the door on multiple days was unnecessary and a bit OTT as a paying guest.

I usually stay at The Edelweiss several times a year when I visit the island for mini breaks. Shirley is extremely welcoming and the accommodation feels like home from home. The rooms are spotless and the beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept in and a good nights sleep is guaranteed. The breakfast has a wide variety of choices and the food is delicious and a great start to the day. If you want to stay somewhere where you feel welcomed and looked after from arrival to departure the Edelweiss is the place to stay. Wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else and can’t wait to go back.

Most enjoyable stay. Staff all friendly and efficient. Clean and tidy bedroom. Everything that we needed was available. Great breakfast. Could even see the sea from our bedroom! Parking available on road up from hotel. Would definitely go back there again.

I have a lovely time the staff was excellent and nothing was too much and so helpful and the owner was so lovely too and the hotel was one of the Nice and clean you can't ask more as noting is to much to ask for and I will be going back as I have a good time there

Where do I begin! My grandad booked this holiday last year and unfortunately was diagnosed with a brain tumour and we inherited the holiday due to him being unable to travel any longer. From the moment I contacted the guesthouse they could not be more accommodating! Shirley was absolutely amazing and ensured that all of our needs were taken care of. I explained that we had a little one and also wanted to ask if we could bring our little dog with us which wasn’t an issue at all! The evening before we travelled Shirley messaged us to wish us a safe journey and even made sure that we were able to check in early when we landed in Douglas (the boat docked at 6am! Which we were not looking forward to!) And when we arrived the room was ready and there was even a little doggie treat bag and two dog bowls ready for us! We hadn’t booked breakfast but it was so easy to add on as long as you pre book the day before. We went down the next morning and Shirley and the team had reserved us a table in their lovely dining room and even had a baby bowl ready for us! The food was fresh and there was an amazing selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurts and a full cooked breakfast that you can help yourself too. We couldn’t have asked for anything more..but it gets better! We noticed in reception that there were some pictures of waffles (and they looked so GOOD!) We enquired about how to order them and Shirley took down what we liked. The next morning we came down for breakfast and a few minutes later our fresh hot waffles were on the table. Now I grew up in America and these were some of the BEST waffles I have ever had! Just think, loaded waffles with sliced Banana, Ice Cream, Maple Syrup and Cream with little fudge pieces! Honestly just amazing! The staff are an absolutely credit too! The girls went above and beyond and we really felt at home. We cannot wait to return next year and are already planning our next visit! We have travelled quite extensively and stayed at lots of hotels, but I have to say that this is one of the best guesthouse/ hotels I have ever stayed at. I have never really experienced holiday blues before but this time as the boat pulled away, I felt sad that we were having to leave such a beautiful place and such amazing people. I do not think that you will find anywhere else that will make you feel as welcome and looked after than the Edelweiss. We are definitely going to be making this one of our annual family getaways! Thank you all so much again for such an amazing holiday!

We return every few months to this hotel and can not fault it at all! It is exceptional, welcoming and immaculately clean. Shirley the host is so accommodating, welcoming and nothing is any trouble. Fabulous location, right in the centre of Douglas prom. Highly recommend!

Stayed here for 4 nights. Lovely place. Staff are really nice and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Literally a stones throw from the beach. No parking but we parked on the prom and up the street from the hotel so doesn’t pose a problem.
