We arrived in Düsseldorf Airport and found our way to Skytrain that in 5 minutes brought us to the airport regional train station. Getting out of Skytrain we found the ticket machine and after setting it for English we had no trouble to buy train tickets for Essen. We did not have to wait long for the train as quite a few regional lines pass Essen. The journey lasted half an hour. Getting off the train we followed the crowd to the back of the train and down the stairs. At the bottom we turned left towards “Freiheit”, climbed the concrete steps, walked to the right up the street to the traffic lights, turned to the left to cross the street and on to the bridge over the motor way. We passed a monument showing workers in a coal mine. A small transport alley leading down to the left took us into Heinickestrasse with New Work Hotel in the first building on the left. The room I got was a bit special with the basin and shower cabin within the room and a bathroom with an only toilet. I couldn’t see the point for that in a single room. My sister’s room was a bit smaller and had an ordinary bathroom with toilet, basin and shower cabin. Both rooms were really clean and well kept. We were later told by a man we met in the street that the building had been unused and turned into a hotel some years ago. With the windows closed you couldn’t hear any noise neither from the motor way nor from all the cars coming to park in the street just outside. The breakfast was quite sufficient with hot and cold stuff, although I missed yoghurt. The reception close at 22:00 (on occasion earlier) so make sure to bring your key card. We enjoyed our stay at Kempe New Work Hotel in a quiet and calm area of Essen 5 minutes or 400 meters away from the main railway station, underground and tram stop.
