Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy

Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy

Grab an outside seat in front of the hotel, order a 45 - 55 Euro decent Tuscan bottle of red and sit back, enjoy the Florence City Centre ambience and the best Olives you will ever eat, plus crisps. They happen to be complimentary Olives, but money can buy no finer Olives anyhow. The staff are stylish, ultra professional and friendly. Technically you are sitting in the outside veranda of the Irene restaurant, of the Hotel Savoy, one of Ultra Hotelier Rocco Forte's properties. I have literally palatial historical holiday apartment nearby (please take that as not a brag but adult channelled childhood excitement that I got so luck, plus context for not staying) which means I have never needed to stay at Hotel Savoy, but I have come for breakfast with my wife and son...and also with friends and even alone. Breakfast was 45 Euro plus tip service charge per adult and my 3 year old was politely uncharged despite a healthy appetite from my plate. It is an excellent feast and the orange juice is excellent quality ..if you order from the kitchen (price included) you will not feel hungry until the evening. Staying at Hotel Savoy will usually put you back real money (think 1190 Euro a night for standard room in mid May 2024) but I have never heard a friend who stayed here do anything but praise the staff and rooms and food..with a sometimes guilty ”jeepers it cost a bit”. I have had maybe 4 dinners at the Restaurant Irene, all excellent in every way. The Hotel Savoy has the best (in my opinion) 5* hotel location in Florence, on the Piazza della Repubblica and every meal I have had there is 5*. Going back for breakfast on the 11th April and cannot wait. There is a small gym I've noted, and on a couple of occasions the lovely staff have allowed me to have lunch served in a large underground room that sometimes serves as a playroom, allowing my toddler free range as I have a relatively calm lunch, that experience alone is priceless and especially thoughtful towards a a non residential hotel guest Overall 5* in all ways I have experienced.

Hotel la Gemma

When we arrived at Hotel La Gemma, it had been opened a grand total of 15 days. But no one could tell because Gianluca, the Hotel Manager, was in charge and everything was already in full swing and running smoothly. Gianluca himself showed us to our suite and made us feel welcomed. He was warm, engaging and very helpful throughout our 3-night stay. He even showed me how to make the stamps stick on my postcard by gently peeling off the back of them - they were adhesive like stickers. Before Gianluca came to the rescue, I was licking the back of the stamps like a fast-melting gelato but they still wouldn't stick. Gianluca also patiently walked me through the Tren Italia website to book our train tickets to Venice - all on my mobile phone. Eduardo at the Front Desk was earnest, lively and of great assistance. At breakfast, Luca the waiter was very good at explaining the extensive menu and choices available. He was solicitous and anticipated our needs. We missed him when he was not on duty. The hotel’s location is excellent, right in the heart of Florence and a stone’s throw from the Post Office. It is a very short walk to Piazza Republica, Ponte Vecchio and the beautiful landscape of the River Arno. The rooms are very well-appointed; huge comfy beds with fluffy pillows, a wide array of fragrant toiletries and, thick body-encompassing towels. The impression is one of old-world sophistication and luxury. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning to Hotel La Gemma.

Palazzo Vecchietti

Very good and charismatic place right in the middle of everything in Florence: shops, museums and restaurants, you can get anywhere within few minutes of walking. The front desk in very limited time arranged for us a short (we stayed 4 nights only), but not easy to execute program including a day in Chianti with 2 private winery visits (wineries from my list) and provided us with plenty restaurant recommendations. Which truth be told turned out to be better than couple of restaurants we found ourselves searching and reading reviews. The minuses. We were staying in a suite on the 2nd floor, which in Vecchietti is actually quite high due to high ceilings on each floor. The windows were to a side street and upon arrival we were assured that the windows are soundproof. But every night we were woken-up several times first by various partygoers returning back to the hotels/apartments and next by communal services collecting the garbage. The shower is tiny, has stone tiles floor and a big window that saw better times, which is letting in plenty of air from the outside. Even sitting on the toilet, which is located next to the shower door, (excuse me for details) one can feel cold air blowing from the shower door, which can’t be closed completely. On top of that one of the maids always found it a good idea to leave that window open for the whole day after leaving the room doing the cleaning. This being in November already. So, going into that shower was an ordeal every time.

Mixed review. The rooms are large, the location excellent for many activities in town. Breakfast is adequate, although coffee and juice have to be asked for, which rather limits how much you have. The woman handling this speaks very little English, but that’s not a problem further just getting breakfast. After you check in, you won’t see anyone who does speak English. The hosts do provide a phone and email, although mixed results on the latter. The Amenities list “wine and champagne,” and, since we think of amenities as free, you might think they are simply offered. We saw where you could buy them. But the things you really need to know for making the right choice for yourself are these. The “free wi-fi” mostly doesn’t work. When I asked about it (via email) I got a totally BS answer about “there are various wi-fi connections around the building and if you are having a problem you are trying to connect to the wrong one.” I say “BS” because it is. We weren’t “moving around the building.” We were sitting in the same chair or on the bed, using the only wi-fi we were told about it that showed up on our devices. Our cell signal was fair, so not having wi-fi wasn’t a killer, but if you’re counting on WiFi, this is a bad fit further you. And we were just doing basic email and web surfing—I’m not talking about streaming videos or data heavy stuff. You may get on WiFi, but it is off more than it’s on. The other critical piece of info is that there is no lift/elevator. They don’t mention this on the description, but if you dig, you’ll find they describe themselves as “second floor.” Beware Americans—in Europe the ground level floor is ZERO, so “2nd floor” there is what you’ll call 3rd floor. Except in Florence, when some “city code” or “tradition” (I was fuzzy on the story, which was told in a cheerful, “See, we aren’t lying” tone) so that the ground floor can be double high. Bottom line is you’ll go up FOUR long floors to get to you room. Depending on your condition or luggage, that can be a lot (no, no offer of help for luggage). After a long day of site seeing (and plenty of stairs) going up four more flights is a bummer. We found ourselves not wanting to go out again once we made it to the room, so forget changing clothes, freshening up, and going out again. Since early dinners are limited, (many restaurants close between 2ish and 6 or even 7), you may find yourself doing afternoon takeout and eating in. Again, it’s a large and nice room in a great location. If we didn’t feel deceived about the floors, we would feel better about it (but if we had realized it was four flights up, we would have picked something else.)

I can’t recommend Hotel Bavaria enough for anyone travelling on a budget. Amazing location, just a couple minutes walk to the centre of Florence and lots of great restaurants nearby. The service was lovely and the room was perfect. The bathrooms are used by other people in the hotel, but you get to have it to yourself while you’re in there. Well heated for winter. Just be prepared to carry your bag up two flights of stairs!

Grand Hotel Cavour

The people at the front desk were great and very helpful. The location is good. However, the hotel is very old and tired. The beds were hard as a rock. They even gave me a thin mattress topper but it was like putting that in the floor-so still a very hard bed. We had the two bedroom suite. All it is is two separate rooms which when you books it as a suite, they are close together. However, it’s no suite. Even the towels were torn apart. I would give it a 3 stars only because the people were nice. But in no way is this a 5 star hotel.
Bed & Breakfast Il Bargello

Il Bargello is situated in an unbeatable location, close to everything in Florence. The service is very welcoming, and the rooms are in line with the price. The highlight is the abundant and varied breakfast, as well as the 24-hour coffee. The only downside is that we had a lot of luggage and there's no elevator, so we had to climb three long flights of stairs with all our belongings, but this seems to be a common issue in Italy. Interesting fact: in the room next door, there was a couple being very noisy while *********** all day, and it could be heard throughout the entire hotel, which was quite annoying.

This was my favorite hotel stay while in Italy for 2 weeks. I almost don’t want to share how incredible this hotel is because it will be harder for us to get in next time. Everything about this property is wonderful—from the location to the staff, incredible dining, large rooms (unusual for many European hotels) and the price. It is not cheap but definitely worth every penny! The lobby is beautiful too. We loved it here. We will be back…if we can get in. I was told they also have affordable apartment rentals too. A great idea if you want to stay in Florence for a week or more! The only negative is the hotel gym… but who comes to Florence to be stuck in a hotel gym? Not me, but I thought Inwouid share for the gym rats! Love this hotel!!
Boutique Hotel del Corso
4.2/545 Ulasan
Florence Historic Center
Hotel De Corso is perfectly located close to all the major attractions in the heart of Florence. I booked a standard room. The hotel begins on the second floor and their website clearly states that they do not have a a service to help you with bags. There is an elevator that starts on the 1st floor.m not to be confused with the ground flor. It’s very slow and has a weight limitation of 3 ppl. We received a room with with a kitchen behind closet doors. Unfortunately the fridge and the stove top were removed so they only appliance that functioned was the dishwasher. But we didn’t request a mini kitchen anyway and didn’t use it. There was a portable small dorm like refrigerator but it really didn’t keep anything cold all the drinks were warm inside. Our bathroom was tiny (I’m a small person) with a large step up to access. The water pressure was very good. It would have been nice to have a sofa or a chair or anything other than our bed to sit on in our room for privacy. There was a shared space to sit outside our room but our standard room said that it came with a sofa so I was a bit confused. The area outside our room was not air conditioned and it was stiflingly hot so sitting in this common area I would be swimming in sweat. The AC unit in our bedroom work very well. There is all day coffee with some basic biscuits. No breakfast which is a drawback but I knew this. If i were to book again I would chose something other than a standard room.
