Hotel Terme Royal Palm

We stayed here as part of a package deal with Voyage Privé so the hotel was allocated by them a few days before our arrival. We received a warm welcome and our cases were carried to our room for us. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Room was an adequate size with large terrace. Bathroom had shower only, with a shower curtain not screen, cheap fittings, thin towels, no robes or slippers like you’d expect in a 4 star (in the UK at least.) Cleaned daily to a good standard. If you struggle with walking then this hotel is probably not for you as there lots of little steps all over the hotel. ( in fact you’d do well to avoid the whole island really) We stayed on a half board basis and had our meals in the Cava restaurant so can’t comment on the other restaurant. Breakfast was typical self-service continental fare but with only 1 coffee machine there was often a long queue. Dinner was self-service appetisers followed by a starter-main-dessert, choice of 3 or 4 dishes for each. Not the greatest food, but it’s mass catering so it would never be a la carte standard. You are allocated a table on your first day and you have to keep to that table for your stay. Want to eat your breakfast at a window table overlooking the sea in the almost empty restaurant? You’ll be moved back to your allocated table by the staff. Waiting staff are not very friendly, although I observed more friendliness to the Italian guests. Bar staff are friendly though. Swimming pools are all very warm. The rule is to wear a swimming cap although I saw lots of people in shower caps, baseball caps etc in the pool so I’m not sure this is enforced. Sunbeds round the pool seemed plentiful. The beach is a 10 minute walk down the hill (15 mins back up though as it’s steep!). The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to and from the beach. On the beach there are private and public areas and it’s a coarse sand beach, nice and clean. To get around the island the no2 bus goes to Ischia port which has the bus station and therefore onward buses to other destinations. You can buy bus tickets at the mini mart by the beach (must pay in cash for bus tickets), the hotel doesn’t sell them. The no 2 terminus is just a little way past the mini mart. If you want to walk into Forio the most pleasant/safest route we found was out of the hotel main entrance, turn right and follow the road. Just after the Albatross hotel turn right onto a narrow tarmacked road and follow this all the way, past the yellow basilica and it eventually drops down into the town where all the shops are. It takes about 30 minutes. Nearest ATMs are in Forio. If you fancy pizza I can recommend Jamm Ja, towards Forio and a little way past the Albatross on the main road, about a 15 min walk.

Booked this hotel through TravelZoo. Lovely hotel with stunning views over Citara Bay. I'll be honest and say the room was very small but clean & adequate for our needs (myself and a friend) and we only used the room as our base to explore the island, which is a must. Food was OK, good choice for breakfast but didn't bother with dinner as many lovely restaurants around Citara & Forio to visit. Staff all very helpful. Lovely pool but had to wear swimhats! Hotel guests mainly Italian and German. Would recommend but mainly as a base to explore!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hotel Terme Royal Palm and had a great time. The Hotel is in a great location in Forio and we found it really easy to explore the island using the local buses. There are also restaurants and bars in walking distance. The beach is also a 10 minute walk downhill or the hotel do put on a free shuttle bus service. Our room was quite small but had everything we needed and was in a nice location near the pool. The staff were very friendly and kept the hotel and facilities clean as well as answering any questions we had as best they could. Appreciated the discount voucher for Negombo-we had a great day there.

We spent 3 fantastic days in this hotel. First we were greeted by the staff with excellent courtesy and the porter took our suitcases up to the room. Our room had an incredible sea view that allowed us to celebrate in the best romantic way our anniversary. We chose half board because we wanted to go around the island to see new places, but we highly recommend both lunch and dinner inside the hotel! They were really delicious! Last but not least, the 2 thermal pools made our holiday super relaxing. Just what we wanted! Thanks for everything and see you soon! HRP2062 Bruno & Noemi

This large and widely spread-out hotel, with gardens and pools both indoors and out, has the enormous plus of being situated right on a hill with a beautiful sea view. Our room was an adequate size although a bit dated . Especially the bathroom with a very small (curtained) shower. The air-conditioning is centrally controlled which is dumb because it was on heartng when we arrived and I just switched it off. Our first few days the weather was wonderfully warm do it would have been good to have been able to switch it to cooling and close the window to avoid the mosquitoes but we could not alter the temperature so I got eaten alive by the bugs. The worst aspect was the food. Absolutely not 4-star standard. Very poor choices at breakfast and the evening meals consisted of overcooked vegetables or soggy fried anti-pasta buffet and overcooked pasta almost always. The fish was not fresh but obviously frozen. If we do go back, it will be just basic night rate or B&B at the most so as to avoid their terrible food. Staff generally friendly and helpful apart from a very rude guy at reception. The view and nice spacious layout save the hotel's reputation.

The morning receptionist is a rude and crass guy, the afternoon lady is very positive and helpful. The room was clean though not exceptionally so. A bit dated with a tiny shower but the beautiful view over the seafront compensated. The thermal care center is well run and enjoyable. Extra price of course. The big negative is the food. Awful breakfast, really awful. Not even their pastries are acceptable (in an area famous for smashing pastries) and the coffee is undrinkable. Dinner very poor with tasteless and obviously frozen, not fresh, fish. A lot of deep-fried anti-pasta (soggy). We may well go back to Ischia but never again to this hotel .

Ischia ist eine wunderschöne Insel. Das Royal Palm Terme Hotel liegt über der Stadt Forio. Auf der Panoramaterrasse hat man einen tollen Ausblick auf die gesamte Bucht mit dem Citara Strand. Das Hotel hat mehrere Häuser und ist terrrassenförmig angeordnet. Es verfügt über einen wunderschönen und gepflegten Garten, der zum Verweilen einlädt. Die Thermalpools haben unterschiedliche Temperaturen und können aufgrund der Überdachung auch bei schlechtem Wetter genutzt werden. Das Frühstück gibt es in Büfettform, das Abendessen als mehrgängiges Menü. An dieser Stelle ein Kompliment an den Koch und ein Lob an die sehr netten Kellner (Landi u. Gabriele). Die Zimmer waren zweckmäßig eingerichtet (wir hatten ein Doppel- und ein Einzelzimmer), das Mobiliar des Einzelzimmers ist verbesserungswürdig. Zum Strand fährt ein Shuttlebus mit einem sehr netten Fahrer. Bei Problemen und Fragen ist jederzeit jemand an der Rezeption für Auskünfte anwesend. Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Woche mit vielen Ausflügen und entspannten Momenten am Pool und im Spa Bereich. Gerne kommen wir wieder. Sonja Dietz
