Kiara Lodge

Kiara lodge is a very well run facility in a magnificent setting. You must drive through the Golden Gate reserve to really appreciate the grandeur of the surrounding mountains. Take your time, stop often and take in the stunning scenery. The lodge has an exceptional health Spa; remember to book. The restaurant has a large menu and service is good. But. The food preparation does not warrant the prices. Wine prices over the top and a ridiculous corkage charges. Sadly, Clarens itself has become tatty with many of the iconic art galleries closed.

Well run resort. Clean, safe and good value. Beautiful views. There are several really good and easy walks from around the small dam. There are paddle boats to hire for a whopping R100 for an hour. We never saw one being hired. There’s a small useable gym and several things to do. For kids, there’s a lot of playground things to do. The chalets are well furnished and comfortable. There’s a basin and tap, so etc. in the small toilet, but alas, no towel. This should be addressed A small wood burning fire makes for a nice cosy, warm atmosphere. You can buy wood at the shop. There’s a restaurant with a fairly good menu, if it’s value for money, who knows? Clarens, nearby has an abundance of good places to eat. We will return to Kiara Lodge.

Beautiful location, and nice facilities for kids, but let down by the service. Despite our room being ready a bit earlier than the official check in time, we were made to wait until exactly 3pm before being allowed to check in. Our reservation clearly stated we are travelling with a baby we had no cot in our room. After asking 3 times for a cot, we eventually got one delivered by a security guard (not even housekeeping), and we had to assemble it ourselves, without really knowing how to. Restaurant staff were friendly enough, but the wait time for food was long despite eating outside of "peak" meal times. Not sure we will return here.

Stunning location with breathtaking views. Nice activities for all. Well equipped cottages with good cleaning services. The beds were hard, pillows comfortable. The restaurant food was okay and worth the prices we paid. Ideal spot to adventure in the area. Clarens town is very charming. We had a delicious lunch and dessert with goats cheese cheesecake at Baris Monger (a beautiful self sustaining deli in the area). The dinosaur hunting expedition with Gideon Groenewald was really amazing! Such an enthusiastic geologist (amongst other things) who got even the little ones with us excited about 200 000 years ago! Well worth the visit!

The place is good for hiking. Has entertainment places for both adults and kids. The staff is so kind and welcoming. Swimming pool is wow. Food so delicious and the place welcoming. Spa available for massage. Good place for resting and peace

Kiara Lodge is one of those Resorts that you cannot just visit once. It’s creeps into your heart and becomes a regular “home away from home” holiday destination. From the amazing staff to the units and resort facilities, everything is absolutely incredible. The surroundings are truly breath-taking. This resort has something for everyone and to those planning a trip to Kiara Lodge, get ready for the most amazing holiday – you’ve made the right choice!

This was our first time at Kiara Lodge, and we will definitely be coming back! We were specifically looking to spend some quality time with our boys aged 4 and 18 months, and Kiara Lodge did not disappoint. There is so much to do for the children! I will admit we spent most of the time around the pool complex, but that was exactly what we wanted. The kids could play in a safe environment and we could relax. The water slides dont end in a pool but rather in the slide trough, which makes it super safe. There is an app challenge for the kids. There is a game and play room for when it rains. There is a play park. The restaurant has wonderful, tastey meals. Our chalet was modern and clean with everything working perfectly. Honestly, it is one of the best break away holidays we have had as a family!

We had a fantastic stay at Kiara Lodge 7-14 July 2023. The facilities are well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful. The fireplace in the unit was well appreciated during the cold evenings. We especially enjoyed the hiking trails and beautiful scenery. On Thu 13-Jul, we made a booking at The Melt restaurant for dinner for our party of 6 people. The booking was written in the book for the previous day by mistake, so when we arrived, there was no table available for us since the restaurant was very busy. The team at the restaurant asked us to give them a few minutes to find a solution. Within a few minutes they prepared a table in the wine cellar, this was excellent customer service. I have one suggestion to make the stay even better. The shower in the main bedroom of unit 69A is designed without a door. The glass wall covers less than half of the width of the shower and this wets the floor of the bathroom quite a bit. The tile floor becomes very slippery when wet and requires a cleanup with towels after every shower. It will be good to re-look at the design of the shower, perhaps consider a sliding door. lovely accommodation- meets all the basic needs and is comfortable- good self-catering option for kids- lovely onsite restaurant available as well. huge resort with lots of activities. very peaceful, can get busy during peak season. very accomodating staff.
