The reception is super nice and helpful. Room is too old and the bed is not comfortable. The view is nice but I don’t like the breakfast. The service people at breakfast area is rude, and breads & foods are not 5 star hotel level

This is genuinely one of the best hotel stays I've had. The location itself is wonderful, sitting on a hilltop looking down and across into Madeira. It's beautifully peaceful and you get a sense of calm and quiet. The facilities are great, choice of restaurant, great breakfasts, extensive gardens to walk in as well as events over the week for you to join (or not). The staff are absolutely incredible, genuinely made the experience fantastic and so special.

This is a very good hotel and we would stay here again. WET AREA Indoor pool This is a great addition to the hotel and is kept at a perfect temperature with jets. It is semi-indoor so great on overcast days. Never too busy. The highlight of our stay. Outdoor pool Quite cool, but when complimented with the indoor pool, this is fine. It's a bit shallow but I imagine this is just how the hotel is built. Never too busy. Sunbeds More than enough, very comfy and clean. No need to reserve/scramble. Spa Massages available at a good price. Sauna and steam room free of charge, although the hotel doesn't advertise this very well. Snack bar Nice sandwiches, if a little overpriced. Could do with more variety of food. Great selection of drinks/cocktails as reasonable prices. Seems a bit silly that you can't pay by card. BREAKFAST A fantastic variety of tasty food; cooked, continental, cereals and pancakes. Lots of fresh fruit. We had one negative experience with a rude waiter; we were trying to take a banana and some bread each, as we knew we would be missing the breakfast (that we had paid for) the following day, due to an early hike. Before we could explain this, we were berated at length in front of half of the restaurant, even after apologising. This was unnecessarily embarrassing and marred our first day. Granted, we should have double checked the rules beforehand (we have stayed in places where this is allowed, in moderation), but, in our view, there was no need for such a public display. BUFFET We only had this once, but we felt that, for 30 euros, it was a bit underwhelming and drinks should have been included. STAFF Apart from the one exception above, we felt all the staff were a credit to the hotel, and very friendly and helpful. A special shout-out to Caterina and one barman's name whose name we regrettably didn't catch. LOCATION Buses to Funchal just outside. Close to supermarket and restaurants. Nice park and restaurant next door. ROOMS Very clean, spacious and good facilities. A bit dark at times. Good aircon. Free safe for valuables. TIPS - Rent a car with Auto Rent A Car - great service and friendly staff - Luggage room available free of charge - If hiking to Pico Ruivo, you really don't need a guide. The route is clear and is almost always busy. GetToHikes bus transfers are recommended and stop near the hotel.

The hotel is in a good location and the sea view room which we reserved had a nice view of ocean. But, I need to mention that this hotel is not a 4 star hotel. The whole building is old and they kept it in an old fashion way. The bath is not good, they don't offer even water in daily service and neither tea. (which is expected from a four star hotel) The elevator is old and always full, really not suitable for an eleven floor building.

Très bon hôtel emplacement top juste à côté du bus direction aéroport et direction centre Bien insonorisé parce qu’on avait vu sur les travaux … et ça va on a très bien dormi malgré cela Seul bémol est le petit déjeuner ou a l’arrivé ils vous imposent de choisir un horaire En cas de changement il faut appeler la veille au soir C’est super chiant ! Surtout quand on a pas un emploi du temps millimétré On a pas respecté tous les jours l’horaire et ça va on ne c’est pas fait recaler :) Réceptionnistes sont top et toujours dispo

5star hotel offering 4 different restaurants.Japanese,Maderian,Italian and International.Standard of food was excellent in all restaurants.My only small grouch would be ,as ever food in the main restaurant is always warm and not hot.Although you can get fresh omelette an breakfast which was good.Our room was great with our own large veranda and loungers overlooking the sea and pool,perfect.Only other grouch was the nightly entertainment was average singing or a bit of dancing groups.95% of the staff were very friendly and very generous with drink measures.Would defo recommend.

Our experience of the hotel was enhanced by our meal in the restaurant, which I have reviewed separately. My favourite thing about the room was the enclosed balcony. It was like having a private yoga studio in the sky. (Fellow yogis note, the floor was slippery.) I also enjoyed the spectacular view from the Sauna, which at the time was free because it was not working optimally. (So do ask!) It was good enough for me, but it took over an hour to heat up. The Pool looked too small and shallow to actually swim in, but mostly it was unusable as it was colder than the sea. I don’t know if this was usual. Breakfast was fairly similar to ones we had at other Madeira hotels, but this place had the tastiest selection of fresh bread rolls and very good garlicky mushrooms. The room was clean. We liked the 3-section recycling bin in the room. Others mentioned lack of plugs for phones. Erm... we knew about that but were surprised to find that there were not enough plugs for the room items. The Kettle and TV had to share a wall outlet. They really should consider supplying an extension lead, which could be given out and collected at check-in, just as they (bizarrely) do with the TV remote control. We did start off on a rather bad note. At check in, we were downright ignored. One receptionist was settling a dispute with another guest, but both members of staff deliberately avoided any sort of eye contact with us. I don't normally notice this sort of thing, but it was rude and infuriating and lasted some time. A simple nod would have sufficed. I’ll put this down to a bad day for the first member of staff, who later was helpful. After a long wait for no discernible reason, the other receptionist demanded payment before we had even seen the room, for which we had paid in advance. We've stayed at many places who use multiple booking sites. Sometimes you pay on arrival, sometimes beforehand, and we understand that the hotel needs to know. However, there are ways of asking that don't come across as offensive and like one is trying to get away with something. Not everyone is out to steal the remote control. Make sure you bring proof of payment if you’ve paid in advance, as we had. The hotel is lucky that they have out of this world views.

We booked through Jet2 and I have to admit I hadn't done my homework very good. Our room was a Classic. On arrival found out that this is in the Reception Building. On the ground floor there is Reception, Bar and lounge areas. The bedrooms are located on the 1st floor - there are stairs and a lift. The other rooms with balcony's are located just across the road. On the ground floor and first floor - on the second floor is the pool and breakfast area. Our room was No. 136 which had 3 windows, which open - two windows overlooked the bar - just across the alley and the second window the road. The room is quite spacious - very clean and light from the windows, during the day. If you are a light sleeper, definitely a no. My husband wears hearing aids so once he took them out, he slept like a baby - but the noise goes on until the bars close after midnight. A good sized bed, very comfortable, pillows the same. There was only one chair - although when I asked we were provided with a dining chair. The wardrobe is opposite the door as you enter the room - you need the light on. The bathroom for two older, not so slim people was a bit tricky. The shower is to the left of the door, the sink directly in front and the toilet behind the door. So you have to open the door, lean back against the shower and the sink to squeeze round the door to get to the toilet. There is only one hook in the bathroom and not much shelf space in the room. Breakfast was good, plenty of choices and the staff are really pleasant and helpful. No problem with getting a sun bed in the pool area and the pool is very clean. We had a snack lunch on one occasion - a steak sandwich and it was excellent. The bar in the reception closed around 20.30. Daniel on reception was really helpful. The hotel is situated in a lovely spot, overlooking the harbour. Around the hotel are lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We tried quite a few and they were all very good, quality and quantity of food. There is a local bus stop and the HOHO bus stops just up the hill from the hotel. Madeira is a beautiful island and is well worth a visit. The people are very welcoming.

Travelled with my husband and adult son, 2 rooms, one week all inclusive and had a fabulous time. We chose this hotel as we wanted a short transfer from the airport, and it didn't disappoint! Even the shuttle transfer only took 10 minutes, 5 minutes by car. We had an early flight, rooms are available from 3pm , but after a quick check in at reception we were invited to have lunch and then call back to see if our rooms were ready... we waited a short time, but by 2pm we had both rooms available... the staff throughout the whole week were friendly and efficient. Rooms: We had a sea view, beds were comfortable (although a bit squeaky due to mattress protectors) , air conditioning worked great, TV channels fine with some films available, wifii good, mini bar (chargeable) we didn't use. A free safe, no kettle in the room (we took our own) but apparently available if you ask. Pool: indoor pool and spa (we didn't use) Outdoor pool cold, but fabulous! Towels available on all inclusive, just ask at the Spa or reception. Transport: We booked the hotel's free shuttle into Funchal which leaves at 10 and comes back at 5.30pm... book early so you don't miss out , it's a mini bus so spaces are limited. Having said that - the buses are frequent and reception were really helpful and provided us with a bus timetable... In the opposite direction Machico is lovely with a manmade sandy beach and some nice bars and bakeries, 12 euros by taxi and about 3 euros on the bus. All Inclusive option/ food: I would say that AI guests were in the minority.. lots of different nationalities (which we loved) Lots of cabin crew staying too, a real variety of guests..... in some ways it felt like a conference hotel, but worth it's 4 stars... we enjoyed the food. One A la Carte meal per 7 days on all inclusive and it was really good! Be sure to book early, although off season, we didn't have a problem. You get a menu and select your choice the day before... excellent! Drinks were of high quality.. one cocktail 'special' per day , plus beer ,wine, local spirits etc... Lunch time we preferred the snack bar... hot dogs, salads ,toasties , fries etc.. all inclusive cake or ice cream including magnums, Cornettos etc! A shout out to all of the bar and restaurant staff, and the reception too! Sandra in the restaurant... always a smile and a chat, made our day! Entertainment: Not a lot going on during the day, which suited us just fine, live entertainment most night's which we enjoyed. Other: We hired a car from reception.. there is a car rental close to the hotel, which might be cheaper, but for ease and peace of mind booked from the hotel... delivered to the underground carpark (7 euros per night to park) and left there afterwards. Area: We really loved Santa Cruz, as we like traditional and quiet.. there isn't a lot there, just a few restaurant's and bars, but it has a lovely atmosphere in spite of the air traffic. We had a visit to the local dentist

Painted different colours on the outside, this is one long hotel on the inside. We were upgraded to a room with a balcony which was fabulous. Very large room, handy fridge. Huge TV. It’s very relaxing to sit and watch the world go by here. We never even made it to the official roof terrace or other hotel amenities. We did pop out for an easy stroll to see the old bridge. (I wished I’d dressed for the possibility that water might drip while walking through the tunnel to get there). Then more lounging on the balcony, watching the sunset. They had the largest selection of breakfast choices that we saw in Madeira. I especially liked the made-to-order fluffy pancakes, which I had with baked apple from the buffet and squirty Nutella. Mmmm! The cook was also made omelettes on request. Coffee is from an automatic machine but it grinds the beans for each cup. As self service machines go, it was the fanciest we saw on our trip. We noticed many people eating in the touristy joints overlooking the sea. Why pay “saw you coming” prices for questionable quality when you could just stay at this hotel and enjoy the view from the balcony without hassle? We had the best dinner of our stay in the town, at Sol Doce. The underground parking is a sharp angle to get into. The receptionist recommended turning around at the end of the road, and approaching from that direction. I think this is good advice, based on what we saw from the balcony. Cars come around the corner very quickly. Lots of cars turn around in front of the tunnel.
