Pension Alcala offers good value for money. The room and bathrooms were exceptionally clean and offered good facilities. The building is in a good location and is well appointed. The check in process was not the best but we checked in on a Sunday, and gloriously, this town treats Sunday as a proper rest day so I’m not scoring the business down on that basis. Lots of stairs so might not be suitable for all.

I have just been on my first solo trip and I chose this hotel to stay at. I didn’t find the reception team overly helpful. When I checked in, I wasn’t given any information at all about the location of the restaurant for breakfast or the opening and closing times. I also wasn’t given any information on where the pool was, the operating times, towels etc. I asked if I could have a room with a sea view, but I was told I couldn’t with no reason why. I was willing to pay the additional, but it was a flat out no. On the few times I had any questions, the lady on reception didn’t stop what she was doing on her computer, she spoke to me whilst she continued working so I felt like a bit of a nuisance to her. The pool areas are spacious and have plenty of sun beds. It was quite empty when I used the pool and I can only imagine the reason for that is the sun beds are very uncomfortable. You can’t seat them up, you can only lay on them. A few times I took my pillows up so I could try and sit up and read my book. The pool by the bar is a lovely temperature, but the pool on the other side is freezing. The pool staff were very friendly and they served a good club sandwich. I paid for bed and breakfast, but only ate their breakfast once. The food way okay, but wasn’t very hot and not much variety. My room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was quite hard which I’m not used to, but I actually slept very well. My room faced the main road which was a little noisy at times, but it didn’t disturb me too much. The location was brilliant. It’s in a central location and I was able to walk everywhere. As a solo traveler, I felt safe here.

My Mum and I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton for 4 nights as part of her birthday celebration and it was perfect! The rooms are so comfortable and the bedding is sublime! The team who work there are so fantastic - nothing is too much trouble and ever so helpful. There are beautiful towels by the pool which don’t slip down and you get two as standard so not everything is wet when you get out! There is even suncream at the pool so you don’t have to bring your own! Wifi is brilliant throughout the hotel. Cocktails are beautiful, about 17-18 euros each but worth every penny! Absolutely delicious. My only criticism was the lack of food choices in the hotel by the pool - not a huge amount to choose from, very fish based (I don’t eat fish) and the service was a little slow for drinks but that could be the time of year. But there was fabulous popcorn cones and fruit kebabs which were shared in the morning which was great. When planning you’re trip, just be aware that there is nothing around without a taxi from this hotel - there’s some lovely local places nearby but you will need to get in a taxi. The beach area is incredibly well set up - the little train takes you there, there’s a full bar and restaurant, toilets, suncream and sun loungers. Overall it was a brilliant stay and would recommend the hotel for sure - would be even better once the refurbishments are done and there are a few more pools and the restaurant with a view is open again! Four of us stayed at this lovely hotel. We done bed and breakfast but we ate there two nights as well. The interior of the reception is lovely and as to was the welcome.. The food is exceptionally good and the choices are great. It was my wife’s 60th birthday and the hotel gave us a lovely treat of a bottle of Cava in our room one day of the stay. The evening entertainment is quite good to with a variety of singers or soul Dj’s. It was quite busy on our stay and we always had no trouble with any service. My reason for a four and not a five is like I said it was busy and the sun loungers were virtually all gone by 10.30. Yes you would get one,maybe ? but they were few and far between. Why does the hotel not clamp down on these people who lay their towels out before breakfast and don’t show up until the afternoon. The only ones that were available were probably in the shade all day or beside a Childs pool.. The hotel is lovely and our stay was great. I would recommend this hotel and hopefully they get a grip on these sad people that have to lay out their towels.. Five star hotel, so sorry I had to give it four.

Pros: + Convenient location. + Excellent views of Mount Teide and the ocean (dependent on the side you stay). + Friendly staff. + Lovely balcony. Cons: + Rooms not very well cleaned. Noticed stains on my bed, and these stains remained for the duration of stay (4 nights, 5 days), meaning the sheets have not been changed. + Towels were changed every two days, but the quality of the towels were poor. Specifically, the towels had several holes (some quite large). + Utensils in the kitchen were not very clean. + Sunbathing chairs on the balcony were sandy. Neutral: + Breakfast was quite average (neither good nor bad).

We’ve just returned from seven days of heaven, what an amazing holiday we all had. My husband and I took our adult kids with us, aged 22, 19 and 18. Each one of us said it was the nicest hotel, most accommodating staff and fantastic food that we’ve had in an all inclusive hotel. When we checked in we were given a glass of champagne to welcome us, taken to our rooms, showed how all the gadgets in the room worked and felt very welcomed! We did all three al a carte restaurants and each one was fantastic, you really did feel that you were in a proper restaurant. But the food in the Central Market was lovely too! We were in a swim up room, which is sunny all morning but then goes into the shade. But it was welcomed as the sun can be deceivingly intense. Comfiest sun beds ever! Finally thank you to all the staff. They were all so friendly, professional and as I say just smile! Best smiles and teeth ever! Best holiday I’ve had in a long time - thank you to everyone there.
