Whale Away Guest House

Beautiful guesthouse, great location with a lot of potential. Unfortunately we could not use the shower due to pressure issues so we had no water. Luckily we could use the bath as a last resort. We did complain and said that it is unacceptable not to have a working shower in a (fairly expensive) guesthouse. The rooms smell musty, and I also find it ridiculous that there are no charging points for electronics at bedside tables in this day and age The manager doesn’t really seem too bothered about the guests arrival times or answering phone calls. I would not recommend this guest house to anyone until they make some serious changes and get their plumbing sorted out.

Whale away was 3* accommodation with 1* service experience. Though the location good although it was on a main road not overlooking the whale watching coastal walk as it appears. The beds were comfy. However, our main reason for writing this review was the peculiar, robotic sounding manager who seems to loath guests staying at her guest house. Felt very spied upon and unwelcome. Could benefit from a lesson in hospitality as we felt everything we requested (hot water, access to the property, a response to phone calls on the way to the property) was our fault. Simple requirements for a guesthouse, no? Waited outside for half an hour (phoning with no response and emailing) met with a cold welcome and being told we would be blocked if we spam call her again! No apology after waiting on the street, a prime target, who had to pay our taxi driver extra to stay with us for that time. Noise travels very clearly at the Whale Away guest house. While we didn’t have breakfast (the kitchen was for staff use only despite not offering any kind of catering and dirty towels on the worktop upon arrival), the communal areas were paper thin and every conversation easily heard throughout the house. Keys were provided but we found our room disturbed when we returned from dinner. No mention or evidence of cleaning - bed unmade yet clearly personal possessions moved. Disturbing. As Jordan Peele said “Get Out”. Up your game, Whale Away.

Wir haben auf unserem Roadtrip 2 Nächte Halt im Whale Away gemacht. Die Begrüssung war herzlich, die Zimmer sehr sauber. Am Pool lässt es sich nach einem ereignisreichen Tag schön entspannen. Cliff Path und Innenstadt sind zu Fuss zu erreichen (auch sehr sicher), die Tipps der Managerin waren sehr hilfreich. Unbedingt Zimmer mit Meerblick buchen!

Schönes Gästehaus, tolles Ambiente. Die Lage 100 Meter entfernt vom Cliffpath ist sensationell, der Weg ins Zentrum kurz und sogar nachts sicher dank Beleuchtung und Kameraüberwachung der Straße. Nahe auch zum Golfplatz und je nach dem welches Zimmer man hat - Blick aufs Meer

Tolle Lage & Tipps zur Umgebung Wow! Wir haben uns vom ersten Moment an willkommen gefühlt & von der Gastgeberin tolle Tipps zur Umgebung und Restaurants bekommen. Das hat unseren Aufenthalt einzigartig gemacht. Das Zentrum ist fussläufig in ein paar Minuten erreichbar. Wunderschöner Pool zum Entspannen. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und schön und haben einen Meerblick. Das guesthouse liegt direkt am Cliff Path. Super! Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Super Lage, Restaurants, Innenstadt, Zentrum und vorallem der Cliff Path direkt vor dem Guesthouse. Sehr nette und hilfsbereite Managerin, allem in allem eine Top Empfehlung. Wunderschöner Pool, sogar mit Meerblick. Auf dem Balkon bzw Terasse hat man eine unglaubliche Aussicht. Hermanus hat sehr viel zu bieten, leider waren wir nur drei Nächte, wir werden jedoch wiederkommen
