"We arrived after office hours and appreciated that the check-in process was straightforward and easy to follow. However, the park's location is a bit far from supermarkets and major attractions, which made getting around less convenient for us. The facilities are mostly shared and not quite suitable for our needs. Unfortunately, all better-equipped units were fully booked, so we couldn't upgrade. We also found the Wi-Fi signal in the room to be quite weak. Due to these factors, we decided to cut our stay short and checked out after just one night."

"Had a wonderful stay at Pacific Hotel Cairns. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of the city with easy access to the Esplanade, night markets, and fun attractions like the Ferris wheel. Everything is within walking distance, which made exploring Cairns so easy and enjoyable. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. Evenings around the area are lively, with great food options nearby street food vibes, and a beautiful atmosphere. Overall, a great place to stay if you want comfort, convenience, and to truly enjoy the Cairns experience. Would definitely stay here again!"

"I recently stayed at Hides Hotel during a trip to Cairns and was pleasantly surprised by the value and charm this heritage-style hotel offers. The location is absolutely unbeatable—right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of the Esplanade, night markets, Reef Fleet Terminal, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Whether you’re heading out for a reef tour or just exploring the local area, Hides is a super convenient base. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. It had everything I needed, including air-conditioning (a must in Cairns!), a small fridge, and free Wi-Fi. The building itself has an old-school character that’s a bit different from your typical chain hotels, which I actually really liked—it feels like you’re staying somewhere with history. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, happy to give recommendations and assist with bookings. There’s also a lovely wide veranda on the upper level, which is a great spot to relax in the evening and take in the atmosphere of the city. Only downside was that the hotel is a bit dated in places, and depending on the room you’re in, you might hear a bit of street noise—but that’s to be expected in a central location like this. Overall, Hides Hotel is a great choice for budget-conscious travelers who want clean, central, no-fuss accommodation with character. I’d definitely consider staying again."

"We had a wonderful stay and truly enjoyed every moment. We spent a lot of time by the pool, which was amazing and perfect for relaxing. "This hotel is centrally located on the esplanade, and this is its main plus. In everything else, in my view, it loses out to the Hilton , to which I moved after a few days. My room smelled to the extent it made me feel unwell. The two swimming pools they boast are a joke. In the first glass pool, you are fully exhibited to everyone on the esplanade, which is why no one swims. In the second one you can't swim if there's anyone else in the pool, it's that narrow. The spa is a private massage joint. I was given a parking spot with no remote the first day, and allowed to park as an exception - their parking is too small to accomidate a hotel of this size. It has no ev charging. The breakfast is nowhere as good as the Hiltons. In any case I fixed all these problems by moving."

"I’ve stayed in other backpackers before, and I’m really surprised by how clean and organized this place is. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely impressive. I stayed for 4 days, and for 3 of them everything was very clean. The kitchen has everything you need — I even used the mini oven to make homemade pizza. There’s also a pool, laundry, and tables and chairs outside where you can study or relax during summer. The 6-bed female room had its own fridge and a locker for each person. The room was very clean, and they provided a towel and a blanket. I was lucky to share the room with very tidy girls during my first three days, so it stayed just as clean as when we arrived. The staff were also really nice and calm. Overall, considering the price and that it’s a backpacker hostel, it’s excellent — 10/10!"

"Dated but well kept. Pool and BBQ although I didn't use them were a good facility. Location middle of Cairns meant I could walk everywhere easily and on the level.....even the airport was in my walking range at 5.4 km. Staff were excellent and the management Excellent and able to resolve all issues I had with onward travels and other countries online travel document requirements, which is so helpful to an older less technical traveller like me.👍 Mervyn"

"The hotel room was clean, spacious, and clearly recently renovated. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to store our luggage safely in a locked baggage room. The hotel grounds are beautiful, with clean and very attractive pool areas surrounded by lush plants. In the early evening, you can even see fruit bats flying over the property, which adds a special touch to the atmosphere. The hotel is a bit further away from the city centre, but only 15min from the airport."

"Unfortunately the pool was going through some maintenance and we were not able to use it, but the location was 10/10. So close to the esplanade and to all the amenities that Cairns has to offer. The room was okay, basic but it was clean and nice to come back to after a full day exploring we had a family room with access to the terrace which was pretty nice and good for the kids to play in."

Ssuper fishWe stayed for four nights over the Easter holiday in a panorama sea view room in the new tower. First of all, the location is excellent. The pool area has a sandy beach, and compared to the Hilton next door, the water was much clearer and very pleasant. The view is absolutely beautiful. However, when the tide goes out, it turns into what feels like a “panoramic mudflat view,” so I would recommend carefully considering the timing of your stay. On the other hand, there were several issues with the room. There is no balcony, and the windows cannot be opened. There were mosquitoes in the room, and I was bitten multiple times, which caused itching and swelling. The insect repellent device in the hallway was empty, which made me question the quality of housekeeping management. When I spoke to a female staff member at reception, I was told that only body spray repellent was available, and no further assistance was offered, so I had to purchase and install my own insect repellent. In addition, there was a sewage-like smell coming from the bathroom. The mirror and sink were not properly cleaned and appeared dirty. The room and hallway also had a moldy smell, and due to the humidity, the bed linens felt damp. The duvet was thin and not very comfortable. As I am sensitive to smells, these issues made me feel nauseous and unwell. Later, my husband spoke to a male staff member at reception. Although the hotel was fully booked and we were unable to change rooms, he responded with sincerity, apologized thoroughly, and instructed housekeeping to carry out a deep cleaning. When we returned from going out, the bathroom had been properly cleaned and the sewage smell was gone. The moldy smell in the room did not completely disappear, but it had been masked with deodorizer, and we were able to sleep well that night. However, the same issues returned the following day. As it was the Easter holiday and other hotels were fully booked, we had no choice but to stay until the end of our reservation. Afterward, I checked reviews and found many similar complaints about the moldy smell, which made me regret not researching more thoroughly beforehand. I had assumed that as a five-star hotel, it would be fine. Overall, the reception staff were kind, friendly, and professional. In particular, the male staff member who assisted us was excellent. On the other hand, I felt that the quality of housekeeping needs improvement. In my opinion, these issues are largely due to a design flaw—specifically, the building was designed with aesthetics prioritized over functionality by the construction company and architect, resulting in rooms where windows cannot be opened despite the humid tropical climate. The older tower, which has balconies and windows that can be opened, may not have the same problems. I would not recommend this hotel to those who are sensitive to smells, but for those who are not, it can still be a wonderful place to stay given its location and facilities.

PPengguna TetamuThe location is ideal. Near to everything you need to visit in Cairns, Great Barrier Reef wharf, water park, restaurants, museums. When you have to get up early to meet your tour schedule, location is the key. Very friendly staff. Room is clean with amazing water view. Breakfast buffet offers a wide range of choices. Although in view of the age of the hotel, it has little tears and wears, 4 stars service and comforts are something we are looking for, instead of some fancy golden decoration in the hallway. We definitely will come back when we visit Carins.

Please note the lift is currently under construction so you may need to use the stairs, the stairs are not suitable for children as they have horizontal rails with large gaps. The restraunts buffet looked like it had a decent selection but we did not have it as it was $16each our two and three year olds.

Unfortunately, the housekeeping was disappointing. Some cups in the room had lipstick marks on them, and the shower gel bottles appeared to be mostly filled with water rather than gel, although this was rectified immediately after mentioning this to the reception. The hotel is about a 20-minute walk into town. There is also a bus stop near the hospital with a bus running roughly every hour. The hotel provides a shuttle service to the center, but it only operates at 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 4:00 PM, and 4:30 PM, so the schedule is somewhat limited. There aren’t many dining options nearby other than the hotel restaurant, and the food there was not particularly good. Your best option is to head into town, where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. The hotel itself feels quite dated and could benefit from renovations. For example, the hairdryer was broken, the sink was cracked, and the shower looked old and worn. On the positive side, the sheets and towels were clean, and pool/beach towels are provided. The pool/Jacuzzi is clean. Overall, I would recommend staying here and an very happy with my stay.

AAndrewOkay here’s my review. The Espy has so much going for it in terms of being central to the entertainment precinct of Cairns Esplanade.  Check in was easy and friendly and the two bunk dorm had its own dedicated ensuite bathroom which was very clean and quite large. The bedroom was clean and the bunks were enclosed wood and steel construction with zero squeaking. Clean towel and linen provided. So that’s all the very good stuff. The not as good things I observed were: - the lounge/common areas were dimly lit, very tired (bordering on festy) furniture and not somewhere I’d socialise due to limited seating, very few power/USB outlets or clean comfortable seating. - The pool…. Or should I call it the tropical punch bowl of various biological matter and other detritus… if you’re keen of growing something fungal on your body, go in…. I decided not to. -Kitchen and meal prep area all seemed clean and safe to get your mung bean and tofu ready for consumption.  - The personal under bunk locker was missing its latch and with two roommates I had to say a little prayer that my gear would be safe inside my enclosed bunk. Overall this was my maiden voyage as a backpacker and at 57 years of age, I’ve stayed in a lot of Hotels and Motels costing far more for way less cleanliness. I rate this place highly for all the good reasons above.  The not so good stuff is easily fixed by management but for $65 per night in peak season, I don’t think you can get any better value in Central Cairns right near the action. Pubs, cafes, night market and the City Lagoon. Thanks Espy crew, you made this old dog’s stay a pleasant one and will be back if and when the opportunity presents itself.

PPengguna TetamuThe Mantra Hotel has outstanding location. It is directly in front of the Woolworths supermarket - the best option in central Cairns. It's also virtually opposite (the esplanade side)the lagoon public beachfront swimming pool. Finally it's just a 5 minute walk from Cairns Cruise Terminal, with outstanding day trips to Green Island, Fitzroy Island and the Reef. I booked a sea view room. When you enter the room, you don't see the ocean, but a building across the road. However, the view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony overlooks the main features of lagoon on the sea front. During the day it is great view - the lagoon pools and sea in the background. At night you cannot see the sea (as to be expected) but you have the amazing lagoon lights, which makes it very desirable and even romantic. Our room was at the end of block, which overlooks a shopping mall (no car noise) - looking right from the balcony is the lagoon view and looking left is a mountain view. However, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm the sun comes directly into the balcony area, which means it unusable until sun sets. Of course if you don't mind baking in the sun on the balcony, this is not really a concern. The room itself is pretty basic. The mini fridge of OK and TV has domestic channels only - no cable TV for BBC/CNN. The bathroom is of a good size. There is combined shower & bath. However, when using the shower, it can slightly flood this bathroom. A shower curtain may be desirable because the glass panel is not sufficient enough. At $225 per night this hotel was not cheap and you can better deals by coming in the off-season OR going bit further down the esplanade, and choosing another hotel. The Mantra does have its own pool and it is wonderfully heated, with normal deck chairs you would expect at 4 star hotel. However, the pool gets very little natural sunlight, because it of its location between 2 buildings. Overall, the hotel has amazing location, and it is still recommended, despite the shortcomings mentioned. My final note: When we checked in, I was impressed with the level of service provided by the receptionist. She had a very welcome attitude and a wonderful personality.

___jtLocation is not too bad. Situated a 15 minute walk away from the waters and main restaurant area. Situated on a main road but quiet at night. They let us put down our luggage when we couldn’t check in yet and leave it there after we’d checked out and waited for our flight. The young female receptionist was very helpful and nice.
