"Very nice staff and extremely close to the monastery entrance without the noise being too bad, tucked round a corner off the main drag.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable - the only issue we had was no hot water for the first night/ morning - after we spoke to the lady at reception it was fine for the remainder of our stay.
The bar area is nice, we didn't try the food but very cosy for drinks."

"Aside from not being able to help with logistics getting to/from, the hotel was good.
Clean big rooms facing the river. Excellent quality bedding and furniture. Beautiful ******* property with a cozy common room full of lush vegetation.
Great location - walking distance to the attractions.
Staff is always there and always helpful.
The only point where they fell short is not being able to help with advice or coordinate any transportation to and from Xiahe. If you stay there, investigate and confirm all bus times on your own, and arrange yoir own transport.
Otherwise, the accommodation itself is perfect."

PPengguna TetamuWe absolutely loved our stay at 山古民宿 Shangu Homestay. The room was spacious, well presented in ******* style, and kept wonderfully warm with underfloor heating. The window-side lounge area was so cozy that we didn’t want to leave after three nights. Dinner was a highlight—the ******* hotpot was delicious, with fresh yak meat, vegetables, and noodles. Breakfast included fruit, ******* butter tea, and tsampa, giving us a real taste of local traditions.
The host was incredibly welcoming and shared fascinating stories about ******* culture, nomadic life, and even how to make incense. During our stay, it snowed heavily, and our children had a fantastic time playing in the snow with the host. It was not just accommodation, but a cultural journey filled with warmth and unforgettable memories. Highly recommended!

這次和朋友的甘南之旅，美朗貢布民宿絕對是行程中的點睛之筆，必須給滿分好評！
老闆的熱情好客完全超出預期，入住前就貼心提醒注意事項，還特意在巷子口迎接我們，幫着搬行李，像鄰家阿哥阿姐一樣親切 。聊起當地玩法更是知無不言，從拉卜楞寺的轉經路線到桑科草原的遊玩貼士，全是實用乾貨，讓我們少走了超多彎路。
民宿的藏式佈置讓人眼前一亮，氣派大門後是寬敞的大廳，細節裏滿是藏地風情卻不缺現代舒適。房間更是沒話説，乾淨得讓人安心，床品柔軟舒適，配上高品質床墊，在高原上也能睡個好覺，軟水系統讓洗澡體驗都格外舒服。
更驚喜的是這裏的藏文化體驗，民宿提供精緻藏服，搭配經幡走廊、轉經筒牆，隨手就能拍出藏地大片。早餐的藏式風味很地道，簡單卻暖心。
住在這裏，既有家的温馨，又能深度感受甘南風情。已經和朋友約好，下次來甘南還住這兒！強烈推薦給每一位來夏河的旅人～

EEduardo112We feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to stay at Shangu. Not only is the guesthouse conveniently located near the monasterybut the hosting family also taught us so much about ******* culture. They generously shared their time, traditions, and delicious cuisine—things we would never have experienced anywhere else. They were always kind and helpful whenever we needed anything. And all the food we ate (a lot) was genuinely local, delicious and had the warmth of homemade food.
Furthermore, the guesthouse itself was absolutely lovely. The common spaces were very tasteful and inviting, and the rooms were clean, well-designed and beautifully decorated. We had a wonderful sleep, and no problems whatsoever.
We will never forget these few days at Shangu guesthouse, and our lovely moments with its family. This stay will remain one of the most meaningful memories of our trip to China.

However, please note that the name of the hotel name is “Samphel Dhondup Hotel”, and it is located near the southern corner of 腾志路, Tengzhi Road, near the Monastery Ticket Centre and the river. This was confusing upon arrival.
The heated floors were extremely hot, and not able to be turned off. Our room was a sauna, despite being -4°c outside (we had our window open the whole time). Hopefully this can be fixed. Breakfast was small but we were here during the offseason.

But there's no reason for such a high price, for what you get.
The room was nice, but with underfloor heating it was very cold. They brought us a space heater, and we kept the card key in place, door unlocked, so it was bearable. But for $38 it should have been easier.
It's right next to a great restaurant, which is worth it if you want to splurge. The walk up the hill is steep, and one taxi driver refused to go up
Again, the owner is a nice guy, but there are much cheaper (and warmer) options.

I loved spending time in the third-floor library, filled with cultural artifacts, games, and books – you'll never get bored! The hospitality from the hotel staff is also unmatched. I stayed alone but never felt lonely. They take guests on walks around the city to discover ******* culture. I recommend staying here not only for the comfort of the hotel but also for the wonderfully warm atmosphere.

PPengguna TetamuThe dorm was very clean and equipped with a kettle, which was nice. I was the only guest during my stay. As mentioned in the other reviews, the dorm is located in the basement and you have to walk a bit to reach the toilet.
The „shower“ is located across the front desk. It’s a small room where the hotel is storing their cleaning equipment, so showering there is a quite dirty and unpleasant experience. As there are so many dorms in the basement (I would guess 50+ beds), I wonder how they would handle the situation if the hotel is fully booked.
Overall I would recommend staying there for one night, if you are not picky.

The hotel is right next to the entrance of the monastery and most rooms have a nice view of the lively main street and the mountains behind. The rooms also have built-in heating so the room is not cold during the colder months. The bed is very comfortable. Staff doesn’t always speak English but they are very friendly. The hotel is a little bit outdated, but I think it is one of the best places to stay in Xiahe because of the location and it offers everything you need.
