We went after seeing a Black Friday offer of 117 euros in a deluxe room including breakfast and dinner. We already us ether Spa as we live locally and chose a night in the hotel as a break from cooking and to use the Spa. I loved the sauna and ice pool and my wife the infrared pod etc. The room was nice with a very comfortable bed and a nice Tera e to sit out on and enjoy the winter sunshine. The food was the problem though. We where told dinner was included however when we got there we where not in the dining room which is just to the side of the reception which we looked at while making the reservation and looking forward to sitting in there and being served a meal. Instead it was a self service buffet. The tiniest little dried por chops and some half chicken wings with rice or some cod (basque style) which my wife tried. It was very acidic and tasted like fried tomatoes (tomate frito) straight out of tin. There was some pre cooked spaghetti delightfully drying away under the heat lamps and again that red tomato sauce, some frozen chips and cheap croquettes brought miserably to life with fried only to sit there going dry. At no point in making the booking did any mention this type of food. We eat in the local village a menu of the day including wine or beer for 11 euros which is infinitely bette than the shockingly poor food they served. Breakfast was actually ok with fruit and the usual fried eggs and bacon, bread and baby croissants. Needless to say we went to pavarotties a local Italian restaurant for dinner as did another party of four who took one look at the buffet and didn’t even try it. Staff whee great in the hotel and friendly enough but the food !!

We have mixed feelings about this hotel. First of all the good points. It is good for families with small children. We can't complain about the pool area, plenty of sunbeds although they could do with a bit of a scrub, but it was towards the end of the season. Room great, we paid extra for a sea view but was upgraded with a junior suite. This was ok except it was directly over the children's play area and not far from the evening entertainment and as the glass stopped no noise at all it was extremely noisy. We found the bed very comfortable. The cleaning of the rooms wasn't exceptional although towels were regularly changed I don't think the floors were mopped. Food was surprisingly good even though we don't eat meat, although could be hotter and they don't seem to season the soup. One of the bathroom lights didn't work which made it hard to do make up etc, we asked for it to be changed and were promised it would be done, five days later it still hadn't been changed. The area is lovely if you like it quiet (which we do), miles of beach and a lovely promenade. The big downside for us and the reason we wouldn't return is there is no bar in the hotel. We had to go to the other side of the pool (in the pouring rain and wind) and it was more like a canteen with not enough seats. No inside toilets near the bar. We like to relax before dinner with a drink in the bar, you couldn't do that here. Drinks are served in almost pint hard plastic beakers, wine is almost topped up to the top which isn't very appealing. Spirits are spoilt with loads of fizzy lemonade/coke etc. To get into the dining room you need to go outside which isn't pleasant in wet, windy weather. We are not fussed with entertainment but with no nice bar to sit in there is nothing to do. All in all I think it's a lovely hotel, good location and good food and great for families but unfortuately because of the bar situation we will not be back.

Even in the depths of winter, the Doubletree in Islantilla rolled out the red carpet for its visitors. I was in the region for business, and although the hotel is built for Golf, its a great place to stay even if the fairway isn't why you are there. The rooms are comfortable, and I slept well. The Dinner buffet was fantastic, and considering the hotel had maybe 50 guests, nothing was spared with a fantastic spread of local and international food. The breakfast buffet was the same - a great range of super fresh food, and if you like a hot fried breakfast. When I return, I'll stay here.
