Kuhio Banyan is an 80-s timeshare efficiency apartment hotel located in the middle of Waikiki 2 blocks from the beach. The beach walk involves crossing the Kuhio Avenue and walking through an upscale International Marketplace mall, very pleasant. Kuhio Banyan entrance is among small eateries and a nail salon with a communal courtyard where people eat takeouts at the concrete tables. Kuhio Banyan has no yard, no common spaces to hang out, or a reception area to speak of. There’s a desk behind a plexiglass and two wood benches when you check in. We were repeat customers and are very pleased with our stay. We were given a room with a new couch, a matching chair, and new carpet. The kitchen consists of two spiral electric burners, a small fridge with a freezer space for ice trays, a microwave, a tiled counter, a sink with a sponge and dish soap, a roll of paper towels, matching dishes, cups, glasses, silverware for 4, a cheap pot to boil pasta, a cheap frying pan, a large and a small cheap kitchen knives, a few utensils, a toaster, a small coffee maker, and a counter to eat at with 2 stools. There is no lanai, and windows do not open, the view is of people eating in the courtyard. The hallways are open to elements with old stained carpet. The bathroom has a tiled shower, a mirrored closet with hangers and a safe, counter space with one sink, hand soap dispenser and one roll of toilet paper. Lots of white towels, not very big though. There is an attached shower soap dispenser. We played with the water faucet and figured out that to turn on hot water we had to move it up and left. Hot water was always available. Resort fee covered an internet router in the room behind a small flat screen tv that had about 30 channels, but movie channels weren’t connected. Internet was steady to stream on our 3 devices. Murphy bed squeaked, had clean white beddings, extra pillows and blanket were in the drawers. Murphy bed was open, and we still had enough room to walk around it and sit on the couch, so we never put it up. Resort fee also covered beach chairs, umbrella, and very nice fluffy beach towels big enough to wrap around yourself, or fold in half and completely cover beach chairs. We would drop used towels and get dry ones at the front desk. We had no noise issues, we were away from the night club. Staff members were pleasant. There is no regular maid service, you have to request it. We put trash outside the room in the morning, and it was picked up promptly. They charged $250 security deposit and refunded it promptly. There aren’t overnight front desk staff from 10pm til 6am, except for one security person. You are given front door keys to come and go as you wish. Our bags were stored for free after we checked out at 11am til 8pm. We travel to Waikiki regularly and love the beach. We bought groceries at Safeway and malasadas at Leonard’s. We don’t rent a car, there are Ubers and taxis and city bus. There are tons of things to do, places to go, and Kuhio
