"I had a wonderful stay at ******* Family in Labrang. The host is fantastic – he speaks good English, organizes transfers, and even came to pick me up at the station. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the monastery and from a quiet entrance away from the crowds. He gives plenty of useful advice, and the rooms are clean and warm, even in the summer season. Breakfast is simple but good. Everything was positive – the host truly makes the place special"

"Aside from not being able to help with logistics getting to/from, the hotel was good. Clean big rooms facing the river. Excellent quality bedding and furniture. Beautiful ******* property with a cozy common room full of lush vegetation. Great location - walking distance to the attractions. Staff is always there and always helpful. The only point where they fell short is not being able to help with advice or coordinate any transportation to and from Xiahe. If you stay there, investigate and confirm all bus times on your own, and arrange yoir own transport. Otherwise, the accommodation itself is perfect."

"If you’re considering staying here, just book it. After four years living in China, this was my farewell trip, and I was incredibly excited to experience ******* culture. I could not have chosen a better place. The family is simply wonderful. They arranged airport pick-up, helped me organize trips around the area, changed my breakfast so I could try authentic local food, prepared homemade yogurt for me every evening, and even introduced me to friends who spoke English. Their hospitality was beyond anything I could have expected. I have travelled extensively all over the world, and without a doubt this family has made this one of the best trips of my life. They even invited me to watch a movie projected onto the courtyard wall with them one evening – a memory I will always cherish. As for the hotel itself, it is spotless. I’m very particular about cleanliness, and everything was impeccable. The quality of the towels, bedding and furnishings was exceptional, and the hotel is absolutely beautiful. I stayed for five nights and was never bored. Xiahe has so much more to offer than many people realise. I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thank you for making my stay so special ❤️"

"I hate giving a negative review, as the owner was very nice, and the building itself is quite nice. But there's no reason for such a high price, for what you get. The room was nice, but with underfloor heating it was very cold. They brought us a space heater, and we kept the card key in place, door unlocked, so it was bearable. But for $38 it should have been easier. It's right next to a great restaurant, which is worth it if you want to splurge. The walk up the hill is steep, and one taxi driver refused to go up Again, the owner is a nice guy, but there are much cheaper (and warmer) options."

"We absolutely loved our stay at 山古民宿 Shangu Homestay. The room was spacious, well presented in ******* style, and kept wonderfully warm with underfloor heating. The window-side lounge area was so cozy that we didn’t want to leave after three nights. Dinner was a highlight—the ******* hotpot was delicious, with fresh yak meat, vegetables, and noodles. Breakfast included fruit, ******* butter tea, and tsampa, giving us a real taste of local traditions. The host was incredibly welcoming and shared fascinating stories about ******* culture, nomadic life, and even how to make incense. During our stay, it snowed heavily, and our children had a fantastic time playing in the snow with the host. It was not just accommodation, but a cultural journey filled with warmth and unforgettable memories.
