Alpenhof Mountain Lodge

Fantastic. The house is so beautifully situated among the rocky mountains. It was pleasant inside the house. There was a stove, shared dining room, kitchen and living room and rooms that really bring you into the Alpine atmosphere. The fact that there was no WiFi made you appreciate the house and the nature around it 3x more. It really is “back to basics” here. The host was friendly and took into account my girlfriend who was ill. Thank you for this! I can only recommend this to anyone who wants to have a truly authentic experience in the Swiss Alps :)

We loved the Alpenhof. But you do need to make sure it’s for you! Built in 1905 it’s a traditional mountain house NOT a hotel. So it’s clean, warm & comfortable. The facilities plentiful and adequate (shared). Kitchen well equipped. Beds comfy with duvet and beautiful hand stitched warm mountain rugs. Rooms are decorated with photos of the house and people throughout its history. Diane is a welcoming host and gives generously of her time to advise and full of knowledge of the area. You will need your own towel and francs for the showers which I’ve seen people complain about on here but then you’d have to pay a lot more so you make your own decision. Highly recommend by us.

The hotel exceeded our expectations. The location is amazing, at the end of a vally, right where some must do hikes start. It’s very quiet, you just hear the sound of the birds and the nearby stream. The rooms, shared bathrooms and kitchen as well as the common areas are incredibly clean. Rooms are basic but comfortable with great views of the mountains and lots of storage space. The hotel is in a beautiful old wooden building. Just a few steps away there’s a restaurant that serves local food but you can also cook your own meals in the huge shared kitchen which has many cooking utensils. Best of all is Diane who was extremely helpful and kind and made our visit even more comfortable giving us useful tips, lending us towels we had forgotten to bring with us, and giving great conversation. I haven’t yet left and I already want to come back. I highly recommend the hike up to Hotel Obersteinberg and then further up to Oberhornsee and Oberhorn. The trail starts right behind the hotel. I highly recommend this place!

So wonderfully surprised by how great this stay was, beautiful and functional kitchen, pleasent simple cosy rooms and amazing views, bathrooms were fine although showers need coins to go on hot water and no wifi (but that might be a feature) so lovely and rural and great to get away from busy places and return to nature. Loved the hikes and it was easy to get to with the bus from lauterbrunnen. Diane was caring and sweet, super helpful and accommoding. Place has a very informal and personal feel. So quiet and relaxing. Only wish I stayed an extra night
