The Lake Country House Hotel & Spa

Just returned from two terrific nights at the Lake. Such a lovely place. The staff are attentive and caring, giving the place a wonderful atmosphere. Food is exceptional and joy of joys no music blaring out. At this time of year a blazing fire is so welcome

When we arrived at this beautiful hotel we were warmly welcomed by the owners. They asked us if we had a booking at the hotel or spa. (We had a spa day booked) they kindly walked us down to the spa which is located next to a gorgeous lake, the views are breathtaking. They checked us in gave us robes slippers & a towel each, the spa was gorgeous, beautifully decorated & spotless changing rooms. We had two hours in the pool, sauna, and steam room, and upstairs & outside on a balcony was a perfect hot tub very clean & perfect temp, over looking the lake, we had coffee in with the package which we drank overlooking the pool. Then we had a fully body massage for an hour from the lovely girls working there, was so relaxing. Then we headed up to the hotel which is STUNNING! again greeted warmly by the owners. And we had a very fresh light lunch, also included in the package price. The smoothies are gorgeous.. my only complaint was to myself that I didn’t book an overnight stay. Will absolutely be back to do this. Really impressed.

Fabulous experience and our 3rd visit. Most guests seem to have been before, one couple we met gave been coming for 12 years. The hospitality of the staff and owners is exceptional. It really is wonderful and particularly so during the Christmas season with cosy open fires and beautiful, festive decorations in every corner of this country retreat. You can walk in the beautiful grounds with rushing river and stately swans on the lake. Take a glass of prosecco in the hot tub and watch red kites soaring above. Have a swim and sauna in the spa centre and treat yourself to a spa treatment. We had a full body massage which was heavenly. My favourite part is the evenings having canapes and an aperitif in the warm cosy lounge by fire light before being treated to a delicious meal. The food and company is truly exceptional. Thank you.

We are a couple and stayed 2 nights for a special birthday treat. From the moment we arrived the hospitality was excellent. All staff were friendly, polite and helpful. We made good use of the well maintained swimming pool, sauna and steam room. We both had a back massage which was excellent. We dined from the set menu on the first evening. The food was excellent. There were nice treats and surprises with canapés and arrival and amuse bouche. Would highly recommend the venison main course. We travelled to the Brecon Beacons for a larger walk and also had a short walk around the hotel grounds themselves. The hotel is traditional in style and has a real homely charm. We could have stayed forever! We would highly recommend this hotel for those looking a quiet and relaxing romantic stay.

We had lunch at the hotel in front of a roaring log fire followed by 2hrs in the Spa and a Spa treatment each. The hotel is beautiful. What a hidden gem. We hope to go back and stay. The staff were all lovely (hotel and Spa). Treatments were luxurious. We used the hot tub, sauna, steam room and pool. Definitely recommended.

We stayed here on a 1 night Dinner B&B stay in a standard double room. The room was an adequate size with 2 comfy chairs, comfy king size bed and a nice view out towards the front of the hotel and the lovely gardens. The desk with stool had a mirror and socket for a hairdryer next to it (big tick from me!). Hairdryer was a salon style and powerful enough to dry my thick hair. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and supplied with nice toiletries but it was tiny, literally just enough room to turn around and the shower pressure (from an over the bath attachment) was quite poor. However since it's an old building (with plumbing to match I suspect) there's probably little that can be done to help this but could make so much better use of the space by replacing the bath with a walk-in shower. The door from the hallway to the room didn't meet the floor so we could hear the occasional passing guest but we put spare pillows/cushions down to block this and the hallway lighting out. The door knob/lock was broken as can be seen in the attached pic and is quite sharp so I would hope it's replaced soon to avoid any blood shed! There is a nice cosy lounge to have drink before dinner and the food was first class, very good value for money! Our beef and venison were cooked to perfection and the treacle tart for pudding was first class. The dining room was very quiet/formal even with several guest in there and some background music would have been nice. Breakfast was served in the orangery and again a very nice spread of continental items followed by a cooked to order main served at the table. Mr W had no complaints about his full Welsh and my eggs benedict was just perfectly cooked with delicious thick cut ham. There are some lovely walks right from the doorstep, either around the grounds and lake or follow the paths in either direction for longer routes but take sturdy footwear as pathways quite slippery and uneven at this time of year. There are 2 EV car chargers in the corner of the car park (7kw and bring your own charging cable) which one of the staff members showed us how to use (you need a password to enter on the charger obtainable from the staff) Talking of the staff, other hotels could learn from them - everyone we encountered was friendly and happy to help with absolutely anything, even the housekeepers we encountered were so cheery! So overall, with a few tweaks this is a lovely place to stay and we'd happily return especially as we didn't have time to sample the spa or explore more of the beautiful area!
