Billed as a luxury hotel, our stay was disappointing. The building and grounds are beautiful, but the service and rooms don't match. The online pre-registration seemed a good idea, but made no difference to check in with information not stored. We arrived at the same time as a coach party. the cramped reception area was overwhelmed with no system in place to manage large groups, meaning we were kept waiting a considerable time (despite having registered online in advance). The room we were allocated involved going back outside into the rain to access it, so finding the receptionist had not activated our key when we finally got there added to an already unsatisfactory arrival experience. Another dash through the rain and the maze of corridors (and back again) we eventually got inside a large and very dark room. There is an offering of 1 can of still water and 1 can of sparkling water per couple. A further hunt eventually unearthed a tea tray, but this could easily be missed. The bathroom was a very big concern. There is a deep bath with shower over. A slip mat is supplied and with good reason as the bath was slippery, however the mat was downright dangerous. My husband successfully showered, but once the bath was wet the mat would not stick to the bath and acted as a slip hazard, causing me to fall as it gave way under my foot on attempting to get into the bath. Incidentally, the bath is so deep a person with mobility difficulties would not be able to get in at all. The 'luxury' elements of the hotel can't make up for poor service and dangerous bathroom facilities.
