Upon arrival in Paris, we spent seven nights at this charming and elegant boutique hotel. A genuinely pleasant hotel located in the Latin district of the left bank. As Paris hotels go, this would still be expensive and considered luxury. However, it has a lot going for. Beginning with the location: It is a short block away from the Seine River overlooking the Notre Dame Cathedral. It is about one block away from the Shakespeare and Company bookstore. We comfortably walked to all the major sites of Paris. However, taxis are plentiful, and the hotel can arrange as needed. As it is in the heart of Paris, the hotel is on a noticeably quiet, narrow street. The rooms were very nice with modern amenities. We have been to Paris a few times and I would judge the room we stayed in is larger. The bathroom and especially the shower were spacious. We had windows overlooking the front courtyard. Paris was a bit hot and humid while we were there. The air conditioner was just OK, but we found that opening the two windows (we were on the fifth floor) helped. Each night we found chocolates, wine, and other items that made for a pleasant experience, thanks to the PR manager Maria, who made our stay a bit more enjoyable and welcoming. Thank you, Maria! What really makes an exceptional hotel, however, are the staff. And… for that reason, we consider this hotel to be an exceptional hotel!! The staff were extremely helpful and sincerely friendly. We were made to feel right at home. We were always being checked upon to see if everything was to our satisfaction. We ate breakfast each day in the hotel cafeteria. They served an exclusive buffet of a variety of breads, cheeses, meats, yogurt, juices, and many more Parisian delicacies. They also offer eggs and coffee made to order. Service was extremely good. They took care of all our bookings and made arrangements for taxis to Paris Disneyland and other areas through their preferred vendors, so we always had great drivers. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel for its location, extremely brilliant staff, and the physical facilities. Suggestion: If you are planning for taxis be sure to understand if the taxi is considered a private transfer or a normal metered taxi. Not a big deal, we took a taxi a short distance to the train station for 50 Euros. That is the going rate for a private transfer.

I booked my wife to stay at this hotel recently and she loved it. I needed to be in Paris, and decided to try it myself. It is now the place I will always try to stay in Paris. The great thing about this hotel is that it is a perfect trade-off of price/location. In September, we stayed at the Faubourg Sofitel (also Accor) which is about as 'Prime Paris' as you can get. Right next door to the Elysee. For that, you got a hotel which was about 50% more expensive, for 40% less product. SO/ is central, but a bit on the edge, and for me that is worth every cent of the tradeoff. Additionally, the tradeoff places you right next to the river with views of Paris that are sensational. And anyway you are 5 mins on foot to the Places des Voges - this is still beautiful Paris. Other big pluses: - food quality is really high in Bonnie. We went for dinner and breakfast. Both great. Dinner buzzy, and possible the most beautiful breakfast room views imaginable. In summer.... wow. - rooms are extremely high quality fit out. Bed is incredibly comfortable. Just be aware that there is now bath or desk even if a room which could accomodate it - staff are charming and very well trained. - access by car is easy. Very few people will be driving (but I was). Access is super simple, and the valet parking v reasonable (about Eur40) - I didn't use the gym or pool, but they looked amazing by Paris hotel standards - I loved the design concept of the hotel. It is young and modern without being like a W (which I don't like... trying too hard) I strongly recommend. Thank you SO/ Paris.

We stayed six nights at this fairly spartan property that was fitted with basic room attributes including a small refrigerator, a hair dryer and a tiny safe. We requested a coffee maker and received a hot pot with instant coffee. Getting an iron in the room proved a bit of an ordeal. The room was clean and the beds were quite good. Hotel staff was uniformly convivial, accommodating and helpful with exception of an encounter with the night manager (more on that later). Only one low voltage outlet in the bathroom was provided that could power an electric razor. My daughter brought a dual-voltage curling iron and hair straightener that could not be used in the bathroom due to lack of an electrical outlet. Staff ultimately provided an extension cord to be strung from the nightstand, and over the bed that my daughter was able to use to reach a wall mirror in the bedroom. We had the misfortune to be at the property during the annual Pride celebration at Place de la Republique directly in front of the hotel. My wife has mobility issues and we had to push through hundreds of drunken celebrants to get to the only entrance to the hotel. Scary stuff getting pushed along by a mob where my wife could have fallen and been trampled. I understand the Pride celebration is a public event but its a scheduled event that the hotel could have alerted clients to and made provisions to have opened a guarded entrance on the backside of the building away from the inebriated mob. With an early morning departure to the airport, I went to the desk the night before to check out so we could leave quickly the following morning. The front desk clerk advised that the hotel had my card on file and my e-mail address so they would send me the bill thereafter with nothing additionally to be done the next morning - just drop the key and run. As we were leaving early the next morning the night manager told me that I couldn't leave because I hadn't settled my bill. He inferred I was skipping out without paying the bill. I recounted the discussion I had the previous night and he repeated firmly that the bill needed to be closed out before we could leave. It was an uncomfortable encounter that was unnecessary. Somebody needs training here and its not the client. In summary, I'd say this property lacked many expected elements for the price point and as such could only describe it as providing moderate value. The lack of provisions to accommodate client access during the Pride celebration and the check-out snafu made it seem that they were somehow new to the game.

Once you’ve decided on staying in this area in Paris (i.e. as close to The Jardin des Plantes as possible) then any decision to stay at Hôtel Des Arènes will be driven by your budget and whether other more desirable hotels in the locality have anything available or not. My standard double bed room (41) was even smaller than I expected and I really can’t see it working for two people but for me on my own I could just about cope. The bed & bedding are quite comfortable so I always got a good night sleep but this isn’t the sort of hotel where you would want to spend anymore time indoors than is absolutely necessary. The room was in reasonably good condition and clean if not uninspiring, it has a security safe for valuables, a chair but no desk (not enough space), no kettle but there are usb charge points as well as the regular French two-pin plug sockets. The shower is extremely cramped and they provide the bare minimum of shower gel and soap so you may have to ask for more or bring your own. The room walls are really quite thin/not well soundproofed so pray for quiet neighbours! The variety of people who I saw work on the reception desk were all very friendly and helpful but not all of them speak English. You have to leave your key with them everytime you leave the hotel which does strike me as a potential security issue in so far as they never asked for verification whenever I asked for the key back. I can’t comment on the breakfast facilities because I never bothered with that at the hotel. The local area is surprisingly more pleasant than I thought it would be and if you like me you try to go jogging when on holiday than a route through the nearby Jardin des Plantes, alongside the Seine up to and around Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris and returning along the Right Bank back over Pont d'Austerlitz works really well, particularly pre-breakfast. In terms of restaurants there a number of very good options further down Rue Monge from Rue Mirbel south-west towards Fontaine Guy Lartigue and in the surrounding area. The recently opened Caluche looks very promising although I never got around to trying it this time. You’re not going to get much for this sort of price for a 3* hotel in such a relatively central location in Paris and I doubt this hotel would be top of anybody’s list of a place to stay in this locality so despite this hotels shortcomings if you’re on a budget and don’t have particularly high expectations then Hôtel Des Arènes might at least suffice for a short stay. Also if you are lucky enough to get a room at the back of the building then how many hotels are there in all of Paris that actually offer a scenic view of a place of interest right on your doorstep (the Arènes de Lutèce Roman amphitheatre in all its glory) without charging an arm & a leg for it?

I booked this room at the very last minute. It turned out to be a great choice. It was a spur of the moment first visit to Paris. All the staff I met were very friendly. Linda at the reception spent a great deal of time providing advice and direction for my two days of exploring Paris. I booked a single room - by U.S. standards it was small! But it was very clean, quiet and the bed was very comfortable. There is a lift so at checkin/out you don't need to use the stairs with your luggage. . The narrow street in front of the hotel is full of a great variety of restaurants, bakeries, shops and bars. This hotel is very conveniently located a quick walk from the Place Monge Metro station and less than a 15 minute walk from the Luxembourg station on the RER B line - a direct route to/from CDG. Simply a great location away from the major tourist center yet all those tourist points of interest are easily accessed by Metro. I would definitely stay here again.

Very friendly reception which allowed us to rebook our dates without any hassle. The hotel gave a good impression right from arrival. Clean in all aspects with friendly and helpful staff. The room was small (which we know) but very practical and had all necessary amendments and rich toiletries were provided. The bed was perfect and the room service like fresh bed sheets and cleanliness was excellent. The window prevented any noise from the outside. The very modern AC worked also very quietly and efficient except that at the lowest ventilation level it still exercised an uncomfortable draft directly to the bed. We checked out the night before our departure and were informed that taxis could be found within short notice. The reality in morning was that all Taxis were on strike (a fact wich was known in advance) but not to us. Thanks to the good location (close to 2 Metro Stations) we managed to get to our Train in time. We did not use the breakfast but appreciated the free coffee provided during the day in the very nice setting room. Good area many restaurants and Metro stations within walking distance.

I would not consider staying anywhere else in Paris. I love the location and the staff. I have stayed at this hotel at least 6 if not 7 times. It was my first choice when taking my daughter for the first time. We stayed a total of 11 days on our last stay.
