This was our first time staying in the Gion area, and Hotel the Celestine truly elevated the experience. The atmosphere is calm, elegant and very Kyoto. From check in to departure, everything felt smooth and professionally handled. The cleanliness was impeccable. The room was thoughtfully arranged with a perfect balance of modern comfort and traditional Japanese touches. Beds were extremely comfortable and the space felt well planned, not cramped like many city hotels. What makes this hotel special is the location. Stepping outside places you immediately in the charm of old Kyoto. Walking through Gion in the early morning before the crowds arrive was unforgettable. Service deserves special mention. The team was polite, warm and always ready to assist with genuine hospitality. A beautiful property for anyone who appreciates quiet luxury in a prime cultural setting. We would gladly stay again.

Absolutely loved this hotel! The interiors are stunning and rooms are spacious and well decorated with ample amenities. The staff is very warm and welcoming. The breakfast spread was the best I’ve had in Japan … includes very good ala carte options as well. Would definitely recommend to all visiting Kyoto.

We had a pleasant stay at Kyoto Umekoji Kadensho, mainly thanks to its excellent location—right next to the train station and just one stop from Kyoto Station, making it very convenient for getting around. The room was spacious and well-designed, especially with the separated shower and toilet areas, which made it more comfortable for multiple occupants. A highlight of the stay was the private baths. Although one of the five baths was out of order, the system worked efficiently—even at full occupancy, we never had to wait long for one to become available. The little touches after a bath were a nice surprise—we really enjoyed the complimentary ice cream and Vitagen. That said, there are a few areas that could be improved. The hotel relies heavily on disposable wares, which felt excessive. Drinks in the lounge were served in disposable cups, and even the complimentary ramen supper came in disposable containers. On top of that, seating for the supper was quite limited, so many guests ended up taking their food back to their rooms. Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay with great amenities, but the sustainability aspect could definitely be improved.

Everything is perfect except the so-called wagyu dinner at the hotel restaurant. While the photo of the menu presents a nice wagyu and you can pre-order as many times as you can within 90 minutes, the beef was served in a very disgusting appearance. It is tough and dark yet it is not done inside. It is definitely not worthy of 7890 yens pax. It was electric grill but not charcoal grill. Anyway, the services provided the waiter, Alan, is brilliant. He was sincere and friendly. The housekeeper, Ms Aina Sao was also deserve my praise. She works with a nice and sincere manner and always put a smile on her face. Also, there are free wine, snacks and beer after 3 pm. You could also grind coffee beans and make yourself a cup of nice coffee. The public bath is not a real onsen. There should be no natural minerals in the water but a slight smell of chlorine. All in all, Hotel Potel is definitely on my list when I visit Kyoto next time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day stay at Hotel Granvia Kyoto. Its location is unbeatable, with direct access to Kyoto Station, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing and travel. Kengo Kuma’s architectural brilliance, with its use of natural wood, thoughtful lighting, and integration of art pieces, creates a stunning and serene atmosphere. Additionally, the comfort of the rooms, the quality of the materials, the size of the beds, and the premium linens were truly impressive. In terms of design and comfort, your hotel sets a remarkable standard. However, I did encounter several service-related issues that I believe could be addressed to enhance the overall guest experience. I would like to share these points in the hope that they are helpful for future improvements: 1. Breakfast Lounge and Sushi Area: The proximity of these two areas creates a strong odor upon entering, which can be unpleasant. Improved ventilation could easily mitigate this issue. 2. Food and Beverage Service After Breakfast: The lack of food and beverage service after breakfast hours was inconvenient. At the very least, providing a space for guests to enjoy tea or coffee would be a welcome addition. 3. Room Service Availability: After a long journey, I was surprised to learn that room service was unavailable and that only rice balls could be provided. Expanding room service options would greatly improve the guest experience. 4. Flexibility with Breakfast Hours: Due to the time difference, I arrived slightly late for breakfast at 10:10 AM and was informed that nothing could be served. Even my request for tea did not receive a clear response. Greater flexibility in accommodating guests dealing with jet lag would be highly appreciated. 5. Lobby Services: The inability to offer anything to drink or even host a guest in the lobby felt restrictive. This could be improved to make the lobby a more welcoming space. 6. Spa Experience: I was unable to experience the renowned Banyan Tree spa as it was fully booked. Expanding spa reservation availability would help meet guest expectations for this signature offering. In summary, while the hotel excels in design and comfort, the service offerings seem to be constrained by rigid rules and limited hours, which can detract from the overall guest experience. I strongly believe that adopting a more flexible, guest-centered approach would significantly enhance satisfaction. If the above issues were addressed, I would certainly consider staying at your hotel again during my next visit to Kyoto. The walk to the hotel is inconvenient if we have big luggages. The hotel room is old but we love the room space. With 3 beds, we have plenty of walking space. We enjoyed the spacious bathroom. The hotel staffs should proactively ask if we are member of its hotel group. We bought souvenirs and forgot to show our member to get a discount.

Quite a new hotel, absolutely wonderful. The service was great. Certainly one of the best Dusit Thani hotels out there. Will return next time.

I would like to point out that the underground carpark is really an added advantage of this good hotel Besides the size is easy to park with lift direct access to room floor.. Returned again as it is indeed One of the best kyoto hotels stayed with excellcent breakfast, particularly the fresh-made toast.

This hotel reminds me the classic and typical style of Japanese hotel setups, very clean, simple and tasty breakfast and friendly service. It’s just 15 minutes walking distance to Kyoto main station where is quite accessible to many destinations. The best part is the public hot spring, it offers a comfortable environment and great service time, reliving myself from crazy day trip walk at Kyoto, strongly recommend!
