Hotel Smeraldo

The hotel was beautiful. It's located in a nice area. The views are amazing!! Giorgio was especially helpful and friendly!! He helped us arrange tours and gave us good wine selections. The whole staff were very nice. It is definitely a LOT of stairs to the beach!

My wife was followed and yelled at by the very aggressive “maintenance man/part owner” of family run hotel, who became very upset when she politely explained that our air-conditioner was leaking. Given she slipped on the floor in the middle of the night when she got up to go to the bathroom, she still approached the whole issue discreetly and kindly. She let them know right away she was NOT hurt so they would not feel threatened, and their first reaction (by oldest male owner) was to blame us for breaking it! (We never touched unit, It’s a remote control.) Then younger male owner had the audacity to get close to my wife and shout at her that it was not broken. She tried to walk away, but he followed her continuing to yell despite her asking him several times to please stop following her, even telling him he was scaring her (she was literally shaking). She didn’t even ask them to refund our money! We only asked if they could fix it so we didn’t have to change rooms. Hello! My wife fell and could’ve been seriously hurt and STILL we were nice, despite not sleeping all night after this awful disruption, hot room and loud dripping noise! To make matters worse, they then accused her of lying, continued yelling at her and asked us to leave! After being called a liar, she said she had video, and they ALL refused to look at it. This place was empty because word gets around. After reading their mean response to another reviewer and making it sound like that person was difficult, they will likely do it again in response to our post. I assure you we were kind, clean, and expressed gratitude at every chance. After paying our bill, they realize they forgot to charge for our dinner and asked us to come back inside -which we did. at that time my wife said, since we’ve had such a bad experience, and now you’re kicking us out when we don’t have another place to stay, why don’t you do something nice and cover the diner? Instead of saying yes or no, they immediately threatened to call the police! We never ONCE said we would not pay for dinner! (although looking back on it now, I should have insisted on not paying for that one night) Despite not sleeping all night in an unsafe space, and being threatened, we paid ALL bills before leaving, and if they say anything to the contrary, I’ll post the receipt.

We stayed here with friends for 5 nights and it did not disappoint. A family run hotel which is very personable, we absolutely loved it. The views from the rooms and the terrace are increadible and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. It was away from the very busy Positano and we loved not having to deal with the crowds.

This stunning family run hotel has arguably the best sunset views on the Amalfi coast. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with beautiful welcoming smiles! Our room was perfect, great shower, INCREDIBLE view, comfortable bed and super clean. The balcony was huge! And the view from it is truely unforgettable.! Giorgio (sorry if I have spelt this wrong) absolutely make our trip! his hospitality and attention to detail was an absolute pleasure! The views from the restaurant are breathtaking! The food is also outstanding! I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

If you are looking for a romantic hotel with incredible view of the azzuri blue ocean from your private balcony this is an obvious choice. The room was clean and very charming in authentic Mediterranean-Italian design. Its spacious, comfortable, and has everything you will need. Their rooftop restaurant probably has the best view in Praiano, both morning and evening (You can even see Positano). The menu has a rich selection of Italian favourites. I can especially recommend the dessert, ‘Babamisu’ (had it every night). Also, the breakfast has everything a typical Italian breakfast is made of. Special thanks to Giorgio for looking our for us. The location is perfectly surrounded by other great, great restaurant choices, close to scooter rental, ATM, and a mini-market. There is access to the ocean through beautiful narrow alleys with lemon trees, colourful flowers, stunning humble architecture, and view points. And we really liked that it was a lot less touristy than Positano, Sorrento, Capri etc. Furthermore, its only 10min away from Positano via car/scooter or a direct bus with the bus stop just 20m from the hotel entrance. Its a 15min walk to the beautiful hike ‘Path of Gods’, and its close to many of the other must see spots and ocean towns such as Amalfi, Ravello, etc. However, what is even better than the amazing hotel is the incredible service we received from Raffaelle, his family, and their staff. They were extremely kind and authentic. Everyone was genuinely eager to serve to ensure we had a pleasant stay - and they were always proactively advising and helping with things such as driver to Naples (we tried finding one too late but Rafaelle helped us), and other good-to-know daily recommendations. The whole experience was so good that we had to take a photo together with the family - and write a genuine review.

Amazing Hotel . Amazing Restaurant. Amazing Staff. We stayed in 5 hotels during our 3 week vacation in Italy . Hotel Smeraldo was our favorite by far. The Hotel and the Restaurant and the staff were all 5 Star. The view from our room was breathtaking. The Restaurant over looking the Mediterranean was spectacular especially at sunset. We will be back next summer to see our new family at Hotel Smeraldo.
