Almost wasn't able to stay, even after getting off a flight from Australia late at night all because they needed the physical credit card for the deposit.
The front desk receptionist wasnt trying to be helpful, even though I was clearly distressed, and had more of a "sucks to be you" attitude. Even if it's a ******** policy that a worker has to follow, considerate people will still at least pretend to look around at other options to show that they're concerned for you and putting in an effort.
Having worked front desk at hotels before, I know that credit card info can be manually entered, and I had various forms of ID along with the photo of my credit card (I have been living in Australia and had a new card issued but I haven't been able to retrieve it from my address in Canada yet).
I ended up being able to just use my Australian debit card, but this was still frustrating as I now have additional fees
