The owner is very nice and the food is delicious, the hot water is very comfortable, in a location close to the beach!

Very good stay, pool good, room fine. Really polite and helpful staff. Food in restaurant good. Would be good if a bar menu was offered, as stayed more than night and restaurant gets expensive if you eat there every night.

Thank you to everyone at The Royal Esplanade Hotel for a lovely event. We had my Dad’s 80th birthday party there yesterday & it’s was perfect. We had the large room, alongside the bar, plenty of space & great layout. The food was good & loads of it. But what really made it was the people working, who made everything run smoothly, thought of the little things, even providing some decorations, sorting out a speaker for music & cake stand etc and most importantly were super friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Dad had a great time, so thank you. I would definitely recommend it for a party venue.

Awesome place - I would defo recommend to stay here - very reasonable and everything was so easy from the booking right through to the end of our stay. Emma was brilliant with all the communication etc…always answered any queries very quickly - a unique experience as there is a communal kitchen which was very clean - complimentary tea coffee and cereals - fantastic- you get your own cupboard space which has your room number - there is a dishwasher and washing machines which is great if you are staying for a period of time - our room was big airy and very clean - very happy with the whole experience and would defo stay here again - position is also great for Southsea- 10 mins walk to the kings theatre - great pub on Southsea Common called Brewers and Kitchen

Amazing position, great location. Maria, on reception was a 'star' -what a welcome. Friendly and professional. Treat two pots of ice cream, added bonus. A room off the dining area, first on the right, no miles of walking, excellent. Clean and comfortable, as the bathroom, lovely and clean. Breakfast the usual, seriously manic. Extremely busy, buffet, just warm food, lots of choice, wonderful hash browns. No prisoners taken, still enjoyable. Tables cleaned in between guests, well done. Only down side 'He' has now become a registered disabled, no parking available in the small parking area located on site which was annoying. We parked in the underground Gunwharf car park, the charge was reimbursed which was fine, however, it was an issue for him getting to and from the hotel. Did not spoil our stay, loved it, hopefully will stay again.

The evening staff where nowhere to be seen on the evening we checked in. They had a sign at reception saying they were in the bar and a sign in the bar saying they were at reception. Took over 20 minutes to find a member of staff to be able to check in and they weren’t even apologetic once they turned up. The next evening we went for a drink in the bar, while the rugby finals were on. There were many people trying to get a drink, however again the bar/reception staff were not around. Ended up giving up waiting without being served and going back to our room instead. Very disappointed with the service. The room and location had everything you needed, however and we had no complaints in this regard.

A last-minute getaway for my birthday and it didn't disappoint. A friendly and helpful welcome from Laina and Dennis awaits you. The rooms are immaculate, the bed is comfy, and we were lucky enough to have a bay room that looks right out over, well, the bay. The breakfast is excellent, tasty, well cooked, a good variety (including fried bread!!), and it really sets you up for a day of exploring. Our only downside is that we only got to stay two nights and wish it could be longer. We will certainly be returning and look forward to staying for longer next time. We booked a short break to IOW, meeting family there and so chose Yelfs as it was close to the ferry and looked a good base for exploring. There is some limited parking at the hotel but it is awkward and a trip through some dingy dirty passageways, not ideal. We booked in, polite pleasant lady at reception and got key to our room, first floor above the reception overlooking the street. Wow, this is a very tired run down hotel. Threadbear carpets made trip hazzards on stairs and hallways. Very dirty room. Everything broken, dirty and impractical. No bedside sockets. Broken mismatched lamps, dirty stained side tables, awful stained carpets. Filthy kettle, full of rust and the element almost worn through. Tiny old TV that refused to turn on for the first 10 mins of trying. Large front windows, single glazed, frames rotton and running with damp Bathroom passable but tiny, featureless, cold and dirty. We were supossed to be there for three nights and may have stuck it out as a base, except for the horrors of night 1. After a 5 hour journey we got to bed about 10pm. We may as well have been lying on the pavement outside. This popular town was full of drunks and as various establishments emptied out, we were treated to wave after wave of screaming, shouting, fighting, swearing with nothing but 2mm of glass seperating us from the row. The road noise from traffic rattled us in our bed, coaches, vans cars and lorries without a break for hours. We lay awake tortured till well after 3am but even then, sporadic shouts and vehicles stopped any meaningfull sleep and then deliveries started about 5.30 and we were up. The following day we just had to check out. The guy on the desk was appologetic and accepted our complaint. A full refund has been given and we are grateful for that. I have zero complaints about the hard working staff. We booked in at Premier in Sandown seafront which was great for the last 2 nights and actually cheaper than Yelfs
