Hotel berhampiran Maritime Museum of Cantabria di Santander

We were impressed with this hotel on arrival, nice common areas, parking onsite (albeit a tad expensive), good location/setting, easy checkin, clean room. But two very important things this hotel needs to get right… (1) The dinner service. They had one (very hard working) waiter doing everything, the result was a v long way even for a menu. We couldn’t blame him as he was doing his best but just couldn’t keep up. To add, the restaurant is outside in a temporary building which may be lovely in the summer but was not quite so glamorous in the rain. We were amazed the waiter had to keep going in and out (in the rain) to get drinks and food, utter madness…. Especially when there are large areas inside the main hotel not being used. We felt really sorry for this guy and as a result didn’t order starters, more drinks or desserts as it was just too painful to watch. (2) The hot water. We had none, just not good enough. We wouldn’t stay here again for the above two reasons, limited time and travelling require decent service and hot water as standard.

Close to the ferry port and easy to find. Big, friendly welcome by English speaking reception team. Room was large, well-equipped,spotless and with a super sea and beach view. There is access to a small gym. The restaurant was not open due to the end of season but the bar and “bar snacks” are exceptional. We ate there 3 of 4 nights .. fantastic and substantial meals. Burgers to die for, calamari, pizza, anchovies ….. The bar is further enhanced by the amazing Belen .. efficient, very pleasant and she really cares about the bar and her customers. Breakfast is buffet style but includes all types of bread, fruit, fruit juices, cold meats, pastries, cheeses,bacon and eggs, etc,etc. It is fantastic, The hotel is conveniently located for the town centre, the beach, Magdalena Palace and the open-topped city guided tour. Santander is well worth many visits and a vibrant, busy mix of shops, bars and restaurants. We plan to return to the Silken Rio for what will be our third visit. A quality hotel !

Hotel situato in una posizione eccellente, vicino al centro della città dove sono i negozi, ristoranti e la vita notturna e di fronte al mare. Le spiagge sono raggiungibili facilmente anche attraverso bus (fermata di fronte all'hotel). La camera molto carina, pulita, con tutto il necessario. Unica pecca la camera singola è veramente piccola, il bagno invece è ampio e con una bella doccia ma manca il bidet (presente invece nella doppia).

From the outside the hotel doesn’t look like much but the interior more than makes up for it. Welcomed very nicely by staff and was easy to find our room. Room was a great size and lay out and the bed was incredibly comfy. There were always staff available if needed but we didn’t have any problems. The hotel was in a great location and the beaches and restaurant were lovely.

We have stayed numerous times at this hotel on our return to the UK by ferry....the hotel is always clean with good twin rooms and ensuite; the rooms may not be the most spacious, but very acceptable for an overnight stay. Very friendly reception staff and car parking both open and closed but under surveillance. Close to some restaurants and bars and a 10 minute walk to the main shops alongside the sea. Pet friendly. Breakfast is good. Charges apply to parking and pets!

Struttura nuovissima (aperta a fine luglio 2022) in zona periferica in prossimità delle trafficate tangenziali di Santander. Spazi comuni ampi, colorati e molto gradevoli, staff gentile ed accogliente anche se la giovanissima età tradisce in qualche occasione la poca esperienza. Stanza non molto spaziosa e piuttosto essenziale con la trovata, tanto scenografica quanto scomoda, della doccia a centro stanza e solo il wc in uno spazio piccolissimo separato. Andando in bagno potrete provare la stessa esperienza degli astronauti in una Soyuz. Buona l'insonorizzazione ma ogni tanto qualche sirena si sente. Il riposo comunque è stato perfetto ed anche i letti sono stati comodi. E' stato difficoltoso trovarlo nonostante google: l'ingresso è in una via secondaria dove però non c'è un cartello; basterebbe aggiungere un'indicazione per segnalare l'ingresso. Noi abbiamo fatto tre giri (delle tangenziali e santo navigatore!) prima di capire dove fosse l'ingresso. A due passi c'è anche una fermata bus. Parcheggio privato gratuito attorno e sotto la struttura ma non saprei se ci siano spazi sufficienti per tutti gli ospiti. Aria condizionata molto problematica: ci sono i termostati in camera ma non funzionano o non sono abilitati, quindi l'aria è gestita camera x camera da un pannello alla reception a cui abbiamo dovuto chiedere tre volte di accenderla, poi abbassarla e infine spegnerla x la notte perché rumorosa e fastidiosa date le dimensioni ristrette della stanza. Molto negativo Non abbiamo provato la colazione ma tutto sommato ci è sembrato un buon punto di riferimento per uno stop&go in prossimità dell'aeroporto dove effettivamente non ci sono molte alternative a Santander mentre non lo consiglierei a chi visita la città. Sicuramente la gestione giovane ha dei punti di miglioramento ma la struttura è di buon livello

Having stayed six times at this hotel dating back to 2015 we decided to stay again as we wished to be near Sardinero. We have not experienced any of the issues identified by previous reviewers in any of these visits, in fact quite the opposite, the staff were welcoming and the rooms were in decent shape and always large. The price was high but for the luxury of a senior suite I was prepared to pay over the odds. On arrival we were told that no senior suites were available and we had been upgraded to the Imperial Suite. Sounds good, but here the good news ended Issue 1 the whirlpool bath didn’t work. Reported to reception and was quickly attended by the maintenance man who after breaking the tile to access the motor reset fixed the problem! Issue solved - nope. It lasted 20 minutes and then tripped all the electric. On reporting to reception the switch was reset but no whirlpool bath. Ok, we’re not here for the bath and having been offered a move the next day at 12 noon we decided to stick with the room as otherwise it appeared ok. Issue 2, the air conditioner sounded like a jet engine. It wasn’t so warm anyway so we tolerated this. Issue 3, at around 5 am it became clear there was multiple pigeons roosting in the roof space above the bed therefore couldn’t sleep until they stopped making noise. Should have moved but we are quite tolerant. Issue 4, around noon time the noise from the AC was so load we had to trip the electric breaker to stop it. Again we should have moved. Issue 5, on night 2 we were again awake for a significant period because of the lift continually moving even in the middle of the night. Issue 6, on night 3 again the lift was not moving up and down almost constantly. This seems to be the overnight cleaner moving items to the storeroom, and guess where this is, next to our room 601. I politely asked receptionist to ask the cleaner to stop and she said he was going home now so it would be ok. She couldn’t move us as there were no other rooms available. On approaching the hotel director the next morning she was aware of all the issues even knowing that the lift was noisy and kept people from sleeping. I was offered a free breakfast which I refused purely because there is no soap in the toilets and this is being used by waiters and chefs to prepare and serve food. After much argument I was told they would refund me the last night stay, still not received it though. All bored by now no doubt. This hotel had deteriorated badly in the 7 years we have visited. There are so many easy fixes to make it better but nobody seems to care. Lights don’t work - replace bulbs AC noisy - stop it vibrating Bath doesn’t work - either replace the motor or borrow from another room given the Imperial suite is the best room in the house Lift - get an engineer Noise - stop the cleaner working all night making noise No soap - buy soap The list is endless, we won’t be back and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either. Absolutely fantastic hotel. From the moment we checked in every member of staff were really friendly. The rooms were cleaned and beds made when we returned from our day's out. While we were there there was work going on in the ****** next door but we were never disturbed by any sound. Would definitely recommend staying here
