A very beautiful hotel with a history. We stayed here for two nights. Upon entry, we were greeted by Thomas, he was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the hotel and the area. The front desk staff as well as the breakfast and bar went above and beyond in guest service. We did not have an opportunity to enjoy the spa but the facilities were very clean and welcoming. Within walking distance to Lille city and an Uber ride away from Fromelles where we went to the Museum and walked through cemeteries from the World War which displayed the sacrifices made to ensure our freedoms. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Lille.

I forgot my makeup worth 300 euros there. Getting it back was so hard. I called for 3 days just to get a simple link sent to my email address and then paid 35 euros for ”fast” shipping, which wasn't fast at all. When I finally got my package, almost everything was gone—just a deodorant and one makeup brush were left. It’s obvious my things were stolen by someone at the hotel. When I called, I was left with no acceptable answer and could not even speak to the manager on shift. This hotel doesn’t care about you or your stuff. They didn’t even say sorry. Don’t stay at Hotel Barriere. There are more honest places that will respect you and your things.

Fairly good location but other Ibis hotels are right in the heart of the city for only a few pounds more. Ended up getting taxis home at night as there are some quite dark, lonely sections on the road home.
Service was excellent for such an affordable hotel- staff brought extra pillow on request, iron and ironing board, they were always smiling, polite and proficient.
In the room, there was one small, high up window making the room feel dark and hot. We were on level 1, higher bedrooms seemed to have better windows.
Mattress was comfortable but not attached or anchored in- it tended to surf away from the hard headboard and your one pillow then fell down between the gap. The pillows themselves were crap- I felt like a I was sleeping on a water balloon- when you rested your head on one section, it would go flat and inflate the other. We requested extras because I had recently had surgery and needed extra support and one extra was provided. I ended up using towels for extra support which was less than ideal.
Bathroom was clean, modern and had a nice, powerful shower. TV had access to Netflix and YouTube.
The air conditioning was FANTASTIC and powerful when it was on but then it inexplicably would turn off maybe 2/3 times a night and the heat would wake us up which was a shame. We run hot and like a colder bedroom so this might not be a deal breaker for you but it’s very important for me and affected my quality of sleep.

We really enjoyed our stay, great location and Céline was so friendly and kind. The room is very comfortable, relaxing, well laid out and very clean. The breakfasts were wonderful each day and she found some great vegan options for me. The hot tub is a unique addition too. We’d definitely recommend! :)

MMarjorie CThe hotel foyer was very pleasant with comfortable chairs and a bar. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable but we did not like the condensed milk provided so could not have a cup of tea. The breakfast was the usual buffet with some hot food. There was too much white bread and one day no wholemeal at all. Also the yogurts all had sugar in them. We would book again

PPengguna TetamuWe stayed at this hotel twice: in December 2022 and in February 2024. The location might not be the most obvious (however, it takes about 8 minutes of leisurely walk to both metro stations in between which the hotel is located). The location on its own is a little bit outside of the city centre, however, you get from this hotel to the city centre rather quickly. There's a shopping centre next door, which takes half of the distance to the nearest metro station. The hotel is relatively new (I think when we were there in 2022 it just opened), therefore most things are still in a very decent shape. Both times when we stayed at this hotel, we observed that it was sparkling clean. The size of the rooms is also large by French standards, and the rooms are fairly well-equipped. The only 2 pieces of criticism that we could offer would be to replace paper cups with porcelain cups in the room (if possible) and ensure that the soap is replenished (we got a refill bottle at reception, but it would've been so much less hassle if the hotel would've put it in advance). The WiFi works well. We didn't try any breakfast at this hotel, as on both occasions we had planned brunches with friends, however. judging by the price and the looks of it as we were passing by, it would be a good value.

The hotel was located in a good position, and the decoration is modern and minimalist. Welcoming service was good. On the other hand…. The rooms were not clean, we did not have enough towels, coffee machine was broken, A/C was working but much noisy, you could hear pelople’ steps on the floor above. No slippers were provided. When we kindly asked to solve these issues, they “fixed” the coffee machine, but forgot to refill the coffee recharge for 2 days. The 3rd day, we had the coffee. The A/C problem was not resolved. It can happen to have issues, but when telling them, you would expect them to meet you in the middle. I would not recommend, and especially, I would definitely not evaluate it as a “4-stars hotel”. It’s more a 2 stars.

PPengguna TetamuThe hotel is excellently located opposite the main train station where the Eurostar arrived. The area was very quiet and also within walking distance to pretty much everything we needed to see so we walked everywhere and never needed public transport. The lobby of the hotel is cosy and very welcoming and the people at reception were friendly and very accommodating. The room was nice and the beds very comfortable. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on that but we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

This is a real bang for your buck. If you’re looking for a budget stay in a trendy city like Lille. This is really the place to be. Except for the mold. But that’s really the only thing that could be better. The lobby has a real hipster/jazzy vibe and their music is to fall in love with! I stayed with school for a few days and the stay was just amazing, it sucks that we didn’t really stay all that long in the hostel but I would definitely come back with the same classmates. 10/10 would recommend again!!

KKate ThomWe were assigned an accessible junior suite though we didn't request an accessible room.. The bathroom was half finished and the wiring was not completed with the switches for the separate toilet and bath located in the doorway. There were signs pasted on the door to the toilet and the door to the shower stating that the hotel offered its apologies for the inconvenience! There was a workman's support pole found under the sinks which had to be removed by the technician when we complained. There was not a single hook, clothes stand, towel rack or rail anywhere in the bathroom, toilet or room. The hotel staff explained that they would send a technician a second time to drill hooks in the bathroom, we didn't bother since we were staying only 2 nights and didn't want the dust. The shower glass in the shower stall could not contain water within the stall and the floor became wet after we showered.
Location wise the hotel is perfect and the staff were polite. Breakfast was a mix of hot cooked food and the usual cold cuts, cheeses, breads, yoghurt, fruits and juices. The breakfast room changes to a bar at night which serves affordable and nice cocktails.

To add some context we booked this hotel as our base for the Rugby World Cup weekend of 22-25 September. The hotel is a good 30min plus walk from the heart of the city centre (which we knew) and close to the metro, Porte de Valenciennes the nearest station. We have been frequent visitors to Lille in the past - stopovers/passing through and this the first time we have stayed ‘outside’ the hub. Now, considering we paid a premier to stay (major event sporting event taken in to consideration) but in summary, a very disappointing experience throughout. Now, let’s start with the things the hotel has full control over. On arrival, it was apparent the hotel is definitely budget end of the scale, small lobby with a corner ‘bar’ attached to the end. We stayed in the third floor and on opening the door it hit the bed frame - the room was that small. There wasn’t any furniture to store clothes baring six hangers in a metal frame in the corner of the room; we live out of the suitcase propped up against the wall. The room appeared clean but the smell of sewers from the bathroom was strong - on our return home the smell had permeated our unused clothes. The room was incredibly small and the only surface face other than the bad was a small desk with was inaccessible due to a coffee machine (which was brill) and bed. Credit due, the bed was firm and comfortable but you had to one side hop over the mattress just to get out. Two nights running our key card didn’t work and needed re-charging and on the final night, we had to track down the only member of staff to help. We didn’t see many guests during our stay, but we did speak to other couples who shared the same view. Billed as a World Cup venue it was a poor experience as on the Sunday guests were left to watch the games in their rooms as there was no facilities. The staff juggled multiple roles so it’s hard to criticised but there was no enjoyment staying at this hotel and more spent more time in other hotel lobbies to use their facilities and ultimately, find so atmosphere and customer services. All in all, a very dated and hotel which is a shame as the building architecturally is very appealing. Now, on to the parts the hotel were not in control of. The area is best described as ‘tough’ and on returning back to the hotel of an evening, there were a group of adults smoking ****, drinking and sitting on dumped mattresses. Granted there was no incident but intimidating when you have young children in your party. As I say, not the hotels doing but the group were less then 100yrds for the properties entrance. The walk to the station was about 10mins but once again, notably tough area with pockets of adults drinking and shouting on the streets. Overall, we managed but we wouldn’t return here or recommend staying unless it’s to crash for a night. Underwhelmed by the facilities and welcome. Rooms hot and poorly ventilated. We We’re pleased it wasn’t summer! The bed was comfortable and linen clean and fresh. Bathroom was ok, but so small I could barely fit into it. Little room between sink and door. One smallish towel was provided per person and one of our towels had a hole in it. The toilet seat was awful. Neither the lid or the seat would stay up. Really awkward for males. Not even plastic glasses were provided in the room, so you couldn’t have a drink of water. Bar was ok but very expensive. Restaurant is a shipping container in the back yard. No doubt very cool and all that but its facilities were meagre. We ordered 2 pizzas and were warned it could be a 50 minute wait. We decided that was just about acceptable. However it took 1.5 hours to deliver our order! It might be funky and all that but it was very, very slow. In fact really poor. Staff friendly, with good English spoken throughout. Parking plentiful and it felt secure. The hotel is too far from the city centre to be convenient. We walked in twice and whilst quite a pleasant walk it is about 40 minutes. There were no shops or restaurants within easy walking distance. It wasn’t exactly cheap but OK. Overall average.
