Context of me as a travel reviewer - I’m in my 40’s and quite well traveled. Hotel Agava is located right in the old town area of Split. Practicalities; this means everything is within walking distance from the bay/marina area, so no need for taxis to and from town. It also means if your tired and want to lie down it’s an easy thing to do. There is a pharmacy and local small supermarket “Tommy”, stocked with everything you may need only a couple of minutes walk away. The main area for food and drinks overlooking the water is also just a few minutes walk. The hotel is family owned. It is one of the few, if only hotels with a pool, which is heated in old town! The hotel itself is magnificent, old and beautifully decorated. Practical notes; Reception is not 24 hours but are staffed by warm, friendly kind people. There is no restaurant on site, so you’re given vouchers valid for two breakfast eateries. One serves until roughly 10:30 am and is located by the marina overlooking the sea…fabulous selection of really good quality food. You have to pay for extras, such as if you’re in the holiday mood for a mimosa! Which is totally fair. The second option is a little further away, perhaps a ten minute slow walk on a side street but it serves breakfast until 12pm! The food here was really good also. There is a bar with a view over the sea one minute walk from the hotel. We sat there many times - it doesn’t serve food but the drinks are cheap and the view is priceless. The server works so hard . It seems to be frequented by locals who buy coffee, stay for one or two hours and leave no tips. The hotel have rituals bathroom products (if that’s important to you) The air conditioning is very effective. They have flatscreen TV’s with English speaking channels, one of which was CNN news the others had shows like Chicago med, Chicago fire, Sherlock Holmes etc. Our room did not have a view but was directly beside the pool! Housekeeping was fantastic. You can buy alcohol and non alcoholic beverages from reception if you wish to have a drink by the pool. There are 10 sun loungers by the pool, they supply towels. It gets sunlight most of the day. One word of warning is not of the hotel but of the streets of Split, they are made of shiny stone and not particularly safe for flip flops! We hope to return very soon! Taxi from airport was about 45 minutes €50 & reception will arrange for you if you request it.
