The hotel is located by the river at the foot of the hill on which Toledo old town is situated. It’s slightly away from the centre and very easy to find the way there by car. We booked a double room for one night, which turned out to be the corner room on the first floor overlooking the street. It was medium sized, nicely decorated, spotlessly clean, well appointed, with a large comfortable bed. We heard no street noise overnight. The hotel receptionist was very helpful, particularly when she came outside to assist us with the parking meter (see below). The walk to the old town from the hotel is up steep cobbled streets and I expect is very tiring, particularly in hot weather. However, opposite the hotel is a bus stop from which the No.12 mini bus leaves every 30 mins. For 1 euro this will take you the 5 stops to the junction of Cuesta Carlos V and the Plaza Zocodover at the North West corner of the Alcazar. The downhill walk back to the hotel from this area is no hardship, even after a big meal. There are plenty of bars/restaurants around Plaza Zocodover and nearby Plaza Magdalena, although the restaurants don’t start to open until about 20:00. A bit further along Cuesta Carlos V from the bus stop is where the tourist “train” runs from. This is a pleasant and informative 45mins trip around the city walls with stunning views of Toledo from the opposite side of the river. Parking, we have a large SUV (Jag F-Pace) and parking it was the main reason for choosing this hotel. It has its own garage for 15 euro a night. The entrance door is wide enough for any size car to get in or out, but the 10 or so parking bays inside are quite narrow. Getting into one when the surrounding bays are empty and can be driven into to help manoeuvring would be no problem either. However if the surrounding bays are taken, I imagine the bigger the car, the more awkward the necessary shuffling would be. In the end we didn’t need the garage because there are 8 or so on street parking bays directly outside the hotel, and we arrived about 15:00 and dropped lucky and got one. In fact the closer it got to 17:00, the more spaces became available. These bays are in the orange zone 1 area which means there is a charge to park between 10:00 x 14:00 and 17:00 x 21:00 on weekdays. It’s 3 euro for each 4 hour period. The parking meter is a bit complicated, but as best I remember it goes like this. Touch the screen to turn on. Then press the key with the flag icon on it. Select English. Select “general” ticket. Type in your car number and then pay. Display ticket in your windscreen. You can pay at any time but the ticket doesn’t start until the charge period. We paid 3 euro at 15:00, which covered us until 10:00 the following day, by which time we’d left. I imagine there are nicer hotels, in better locations, further up in the old town, but with a car there are only a couple of underground public car parks up there and some of the streets are very narrow. Good: The hotel room was large ,nice smelling with free beer. We enjoyed the pools and the women who checked us in were kind and pleasant The Bad: constant miss communication regarding booking a massage and expectations. Despite emails back and forth there still was no clarity and a clear understanding. We stayed here for the massage and culture experience but it turned into a nightmare and our the only worse place and extremely stressful negative experience we had in Spain Trip as they seem to have become too greedy as the now offer massages in a small room packed with beds and no dividers. When booking the massage the had an old website that showed a two person room. The night time manager told us we would have our full massage time in the two person room which was a lie as the woman stopped in less than 5 minutes and said she was done. We were given our money back but it ruined our whole experience and instead of calmly us it caused us more stress. It didn’t matter that we were hotel guests as they just wanted to fool people in and out and the 5 minute experience was fluff as they only rubbed oil on your body and it wasn’t even a massage. The Ugly: we did not want to leave this review and offered to sort things out with the hotel night manager, however his attitude was that it doesn’t matter and said go ahead because people will always come to this hotel. He seemed arrogant and unapologetic and had no intentions of making any amends for our horrible experience. The morning breakfast was disgusting cased diarrhea which sums up the overall mood.

We absolutely enjoyed the stay at the hotel. Staff are very friendly and attentive to details. Breakfast was amazing and staff were super welcoming and always ready to quickly identify our table. Hotel is close to the square and great view from roof top patio.Kudos to the team!

Just about as good a hotel experience as I've ever had, from the warm and friendly welcome (thank you, Ana), to the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff (Ana, Andrea and Silvia), and to the beautiful building and its magical atmosphere. The building was once the house of Paco de Lucia, the maestro of flamenco guitar, and has been sensitively converted so as to preserve much of the way it was when he was there, including his recording studio. His music is everywhere, even the five bedrooms are named after his tracks. Our bedroom was very comfortable, a great mattress on the bed, a choice of pillows and a lovely bathroom. Note - there's not a lot of hanging space and the room could probably do with a few hooks here and there, but that didn't detract from our sense of comfort and peace when resting there. Breakfast was excellent and served (by the brilliant Silvia) in the inner courtyard where cascading plants and Paco de Lucia's music playing unobtrusively in the background made this an enjoyable experience every morning. The coffee as good as it gets too. The hotel is situated in a quiet and beautiful square and was probably the most peaceful hotel I've ever stayed in and sitting on the roof terrace with a nightcap watching the sunset and the swifts was the perfect way to end the day. Close enough to be within a short walk to the main sights, and with a great restaurant/café/bar just around the corner called Embrujo, the hotel and staff provided a wonderful place for a perfect break. We will return.
