Sentido Michelizia Tropea Resort

Absolutely magnificent stay. attentive and professional staff, very friendly reception and very good restaurant with internation and local breakfast. room with all comforts and a very nice swimming pool. super recommended for a holiday to remember in Tropea

For me Michelizia at Tropea is the best resort hotel in Calabria. All the staff is so kind and the restaurant offers delicious dishes with local food and cuisine. Also service is perfect. Tropea has amazing beauty of sea and of historical city, monuments, also of people. 100 percent recommended!

As avid travellers, we always read reviews but rarely write them. We felt compelled to leave one for this hotel however based on the fact that the staff went out of their way to help us nearly every day. Salvatore, Francesco & Dominique dealt with every single request - from Vespa hire, to taxis, printing our train tickets at the last minute when we realised we needed them printed out. Our room was a great size for a couple and we noticed a pull out sofa so you’d easily fit a third in if needed. We had a balcony & housekeeping was impeccable - every day we’d go out and come back to a clean room smelling fresh and clean. Reasonably priced, 10 min or 4 min Vespa ride to the centre of Tropea, a great buffet breakfast & pool with a view. But like any hotel, it’s the staff that make or break it and these ones made it. Brava!

Overall, a nice hotel. There was a smell in our shower which I reported but not sure that anything was done about it. Certainly, the smell was still there. Good breakfast. Helpful reception staff. Lovely pool. Would be helpful if there was a drying rack for beach towels and swimwear.

We chose this venue primarily due to the pool. And that remained the only major plus for this “hotel”. A few things to note. This appears to be a mixed venue - hotel and time share/ownership. Some of the rooms definitely appear to be self owned. This is a very large block of rooms and at the entrance many rooms have their own intercom/mailbox. So as you come down the driveway - to the left are the “owners” or permanents and to the right is the “resort”. Except that in the room next to ours - which was much larger - the occupants appeared to be owners. They had the washing out on a clothes horse and had their own umbrella and other items that a holiday traveler would not normally have. A further thing to note is that the resort appears to be a destination for large tour groups. During our stay we were surrounded by Germans. At breakfast - a number of tables were reserved for the tour group members. I have been to resorts and hotels before but never seen such large tour groups concentrated in the one venue. I looked at the Notice Board and saw the itineraries for 4 different tour groups - all German. The reception staff also spoke German so clearly this is a feature of the venue. We were disappointed with our room. It is small with a cramped bathroom and a small closet with limited luggage storage. Again, we probably should have been more careful with our research as this was promoted as a 4 star venue. I think it is more a 3 star - the pool is probably the difference. Also you need to be aware that the walk to the town is along a road - no pedestrian walkways. The walk itself is not too bad but you need to be weary of cars. In the end we were glad we only stayed for 2 nights.

Our room although a superior room was very small and the shower was not much bigger than a coffin. If you were a larger person it would be difficult to move in the shower. The air conditioning worked off and on and the fridge made loud noises in the middle of the night. The room was not pleasant by any means. Sea view was okay not worth paying for as staying in the room except for sleep was enough. Cannot fault the staff they went out of their way to do what they could with what they had to work with. The coffee was terrible.

While Tropea is undoubtedly a beautiful destination, I strongly advise against choosing Sentido Michelizia Resort for your stay. Our experience was marred by not being able to check into our room until 8pm, false room descriptions, an unbearably hot 3rd floor attic room, moldy conditions in the shower, shuttle service nightmares, and booking issues. The hotel's overall disregard for guest satisfaction and comfort made our stay a true nightmare. We will definitely return to Tropea, but never to this hotel. It was a truly terrible experience, and I hope this review serves as a warning to others considering a stay here. Expect to wait over an hour for beach pickup shuttle service, in very hot conditions. And then when you get back and ask reception for a bottle of water, they point you to purchase it at the bar. We reserved and confirmed a 2pm beach pickup, after calling at 2:20pm and 2:40pm they finally arrived at 3pm. Our air condition could not keep up with the demand and were left to sleep in an 84F/29C room for 2 nights. We cut our stay short by a night because we could not take it and the hotel did not attempt to do anything except offer a fan. The hotel even made us pay for the 3rd night but to us, it was worth wasting the money if it meant leaving this place. The most attention the Front Desk gave was when we were walking to our vehicle and they begged us not to write a negative review (we never mentioned anything about a review).

Unsanitary - mold in rooms (see photos). Not clean - Fecies of previous guest in bathroom. Unprofessional and aggessive management. Very absurd experience. Spare yourself, much better options in Tropea and surroundings.
