Fumba Beach Lodge

A wonderful experience, food amazing, nice to be served at the table instead of buffet staff amazing Sharon the manager always around for a chat, spent a very lazy week on the beach with a visit to prison island and stone town but lots of other options to choose for trips. Spent a week at mapenzi beach and this was far more relaxing with less beach boys.

This destination is located within a forested estate in marine eco location. My wife and I spent 9 days here just relaxing. After 3 days we were suitably 'unwound' and relaxed. The Lodge has many wonderful trees. In their canopies the range of bird song is staggering. Seeing them is more of a challenge! Our interest was very much in the natural environment and we were pleased to discover a nature trail within the complex. With the help of a local 'birdman' we saw nearly 50 species. Also on-site we saw elephant shrews, two types of monkeys, bush babies, dragon flies, butterflies and a variety of other creatures. Staff were friendly and helpful. Any queries were swiftly dealt with. The accommodation was pleasant and was carefully cleaned each day with an evening visit to put the mosquito netting in place (although evidence of mosquitoes was not obvious). Our view was through the trees lining the beach where we could see locals in their Dhows gently making their way along the shoreline. Food was excellent with choices at breakfast, 3 courses at lunchtime and 4 courses at dinner all served at our table. additionally there was an option for afternoon tea as well as cocktail hour! We did not lose weight. We met with Sharon, the manager and enjoyed learning about her Eco vision for Fumba Beach and the local area. We are now back in The UK and miss watching the sunset whilst relaxing on a double bed sized swing. It is a haven for relaxing without the noise of evening discos, hustle and bustle. etc..

I have wanted to visit Zanzibar for such a long time and chose Fumba Beach Lodge over the many other hotels available on this beautiful island. I booked directly and any queries I had were dealt with promptly by either Edwin or Sharon the owners. Their passion to provide an everlasting memory for their guests was so evident. The accommodation was stunning. I chose a beach front lodge which was literally on the beach where you can lay in bed listening to the waves and shower under the stars. The bed was so comfortable and possibly the biggest bed I have ever slept in. What I really loved was it felt like it had always been here. The accommodation, the lounges and all the different nooks for reading and just relaxing were all in keeping with the surroundings. No plastic loungers here. Everything has been sourced locally. Everyone who works here clearly enjoys their job, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located away from it all but they offer a number of trips if you need a change of scenery. This hotel is about taking time out so if your after load music and parties then this will not be for you but for those that want to switch off and be well looked after this is the perfect hotel for you. The food is exceptional, so much so I thanked the chef personally one night. I have never returned to hotel I’ve stayed at but if I need time out this would be my first choice.

My wife and I completed our safaris and flew over to Zanzibar, looking for some peace and quiet after the excitement of the safaris. We certainly found it at Fumba Beach. We’ve been around the world but this place has something very special about it which makes it an outstanding place to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can spend a long time just looking at the colours of the sea as the tide changes. Mesmerising, particularly when you watch the sea food pickers and the dhow crews getting ready to sail. As the sun goes down, it’s a delight to sit with a cocktail before dinner and admire the glorious sunsets. The rustic settings somehow add to the magic and make the place even more attractive, as do the individual lodges. You look forward to watching the monkeys come down from the trees to put on a show, which everyone found amusing. The staff are so pleasant and willing to help. Housekeeping is spot on and service in the restaurant and bar is outstanding. Food is really good but it might be an idea to put some of the lunchtime items on the evening menu. I had the best battered calamari I’ve ever had, but only at lunchtime. It’s not often you can say there is something magical about a hotel/ lodge, but this place has that magical feel. We’ve been back two days and miss it already.

Individual/semi detached lodges within garden or beach front setting. We had a garden setting and enjoyed watching the Colobus monkeys play, elephant shrews and many birds and butterflies whilst we sat on our terrace. The staff are so helpful and always have a happy smile. The manager, Sharon, comes round every evening to make sure you have everything you need. A taxi into Stone Town is 25 minute drive. The Lodge offer tours at reasonable prices.

Excellent relaxing hotel on the west coast only 25 mins from Stone Town. The special part of this hotel is that the nature is preserved - every time you see monkeys and elephant shrews amongst the extensive and natural grounds. There is a nature walk in the hotel grounds if you go looking for it. The beach is nice and you can swim in the ocean. They do a really nice boat / snorkelling trip to a more quiet island than the commercial company nearby. Food on a deserted tropical island - what’s not to like. Hotel is very relaxing - no loud music and crowded beach with hawkers.

I can never stop returning to this beautiful paradise, which always immediately feels like home. With the wonderfully friendly staff, the privacy of the rooms, the beautiful private beach and surrounding nature, you can never get enough! Of course we also can't forget the cocktails at the Dhow bar every evening before dinner. Great to be back and wont be long before I return again. Many thanks to all!

First time Zanzibar, but not our last visit. Stayed with 2 other couples for 10 days and we have had an unbelievable experience @ Fumba.Location is like paradise on earth. Staff is so helpful and they’re always smiling. Some of them are working there for more than 15 years ! We visited also Shiri beach project next door to Fumba. This will be an other tropical holiday experience as they work together with Fumba they told us

Fumba beach lodge was our final destination after an epic trip in Africa to celebrate my birthday. We had had a busy time so looked forward to some R&R and it didn’t disappoint. The lodge is very special - not corporate at all. The staff were attentive and we particularly enjoyed chatting to the manager Sharon. We enjoyed a scuba / snorkel trip and picnic with Omar and crew and were thrilled to see the coral in such great condition. If you want full on entertainment, air con and modern fixtures this isn’t the place for you but if you want something that feels authentic and peaceful, don’t hesitate to stay here if visiting Zanzibar.
