St. Raphael Guest House

Great guest house, extremely friendly staff, lovely and clean. The breakfast was all made with locally sourced goods, nothing was too much trouble. Ideally situated withing walking distance of the centre. Have stayed here before and will definitely go back again.

A lovely comfortable guesthouse in a great location. It is an easy walk to the city centre (approximately 5 minutes). Our room was very quiet with a comfortable bed and a great shower. There was a good choice for breakfast, continental or freshly cooked. There was also the bonus of free parking which was arranged with the host before arriving. Danny and staff are very friendly and helpful. Would happily recommend staying here.

Great guest house, nice clean room, super hot water shower and a great English breakfast - so close to the city centre and all its attarctions. Managed to get a good parking spot close to the guest house. Met Danny on arrival who gave us a good brief on the facilities and what to expect in York. Will be back.

We got two rooms at St. Raphael's Guesthouse. The rooms are not huge but cozy and comfortable. The style of the beds and room is wonderful, matching the feeling of a English guesthouse. Clean bathrooms. A highlight was the manager Danny who is warm and friendly. Good breakfast in a gorgeous well lit dining room with a beautiful big old buffet table of extras. This is a very convenient location to the train station and the York Museum gardens almost next door, along with an easy walk in York itself.

Had an amazing stay here. The owners and staff were truly amazing and friendly ho above and beyond. Hotel very clean rooms are spacious. Beds are so comfy everything you need. Breakfast good selection and very nice. Location is perfect a 5 minute walk to center. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Roomy suite with a sofa, an outdoor courtyard, a modern interior update in an historic building. Short walk to York Bootham Bar (and access to city walls), York Minster, Yorkshire Museum and St. Mary's Abbey ruins and gardens. Great breakfast with local products.

Great location with an easy walk to the York Minster and the city center. Neighborhood was quiet and safe. Breakfast was lovely! They also made homemade gluten free toast. Our host, Danny was a real gem, very personable, and quick to offer suggestions and directions. Highly recommend this place.

Our Double room perfectly met our needs for a 48-hour visit to York. Quiet, clean, a fantastic location, and a charming, amiable and helpful host (Danny) who is a hard-core fan of the San Francisco 49ers and whose NFL knowledge rivals that of any American football fan. The breakfast is wonderful--a mixture of self-serve items and hot made to order items, in a lovely and cheerful room. Excellent porridge! The Guest House itself is in a beautiful, totally residential neighborhood, and although it's only a few blocks from railroad tracks, we didn't hear a train once during our stay. Also, regarding noise, breakfast was the only time we were even aware there were other guests staying over. It is only a 10-minute walk to York's wall at the Bootham Bar (gate), the entrance to the old city closest to the Minster and the Shambles. It’s even quicker to the walking path along the River Ouse, and it is EASY to walk from the York train station to the guest house without encountering any steps at all. We did it in 8 minutes without luggage, about 15 minutes hauling suitcases. They also offer laundry service, for a flat price of 25 pounds/bag. But coordinate with Danny in advance.

My sisters and I enjoyed our two guestrooms with comfortable beds, ensuite bathrooms, and windows overlooking a quiet lovely street within walking distance to the town center. Our breakfast in the dining room with a large window overlooking the street was memorable, along with a fun conversation with the owner. In the evening, we enjoyed a short walk for pizza and beer at The Minster Inn. Overall, a lovely stay.
