Mogao Caves

The Mogao Caves are located in Dunhuang, at the western end of the Hexi Corridor. The caves were carved over a period of about 1,000 years, from the Sixteen Kingdoms period to the Yuan dynasty, which is unique among Chinese grottoes. Not all caves are open to the public at the same time. A certain number of caves are opened each year, so you can expect a surprise every time you visit. Opening hours: 8:00–18:00 Tickets: 238
