Xiyu Little Forbidden City

Xinjiang Trip 62: Hami Huiwang Mansion, Xiyu Little Forbidden City Hami Huiwang Mansion is located at the southern end of Hami City, Xinjiang. It is a historical city that bears the rise and fall of nine generations of Hui kings. The Huiwang Mansion was built in 1705. The first Hami Hui king appointed by the Qing government invited Han craftsmen from the capital to design and build it over seven years. It is known as the "Xiyu Little Forbidden City." In the eighth year of the Guangxu period, the Hami Hui king expanded and renovated the mansion, increasing its area to one-fourth of the Hui city. It had more than 880 rooms and nine gatehouses, making it magnificent. The Huiwang Mansion, which combines the architectural styles of Han, Uighur, Mongolian, Hui, and other ethnic groups, was the largest, most magnificent, and most unique palace complex in Xinjiang at that time. Although the former Huiwang Mansion was destroyed in the war, the restored buildings still allow us to glimpse its former glory. Walking in the Huiwang Mansion is like traveling through time and space, back to that prosperous era.
