Hikone Castle in Shiga, Japan

Address: 1-1 Konkicho, Hikone 522-0061 Shiga Prefecture One of the 5 National Treasures (Castles) in Japan, Hikone Castle 🏯 which is over 400 years old, is one of the remaining few with their original structures preserved. The Hikone Castle, although smaller in size than some of the other castles in Japan, is still quite big to me, and we took some time exploring the castle and the surroundings. As the castle is quite high up, we also need some time to climb up but it's all worth it, with the nice scenic view of Lake Biwa or Biwako, Japan's largest Freshwater Lake. There's also the cute Hikonyan, which is a mascot created in 2007 to mark the 400th anniversary of Hikone Castle. You can take a photo with the mascot standee which is in front of the castle. There's also the cute mascot toys and merchandise sold in Hikone too. Overall, for me, it's definitely worth a visit to at least one of the castles in Japan.
