Ng Tung Chai Waterfall: Hong Kong’s Wildest Jungle Hike

#favouriteitinerary #travelanywhere Ng Tung Chai Waterfall: A Wild Trek Through Hong Kong’s Jungle Deep in the New Territories, the Ng Tung Chai Waterfall hike offers a side of Hong Kong rarely seen—untamed jungle, cascading waterfalls, and a trail that challenges even the most seasoned hikers. What was supposed to be a straightforward trek quickly turned into an intense adventure through slippery rock paths, steep inclines, and breathtaking natural scenery. The journey began with a ride to Ng Tung Chai, where the trailhead welcomed us with a picturesque archway near a quiet temple. The initial path was deceptively gentle, winding past small trickling streams and lush greenery. But as we ventured deeper, the landscape transformed—thick jungle foliage closed in, tree roots twisted across the trail, and the humid air hung heavy with the scent of damp earth. The first waterfall, a modest yet beautiful cascade, was just a preview of what lay ahead. The trail only grew steeper and more rugged, with jagged rocks and moss-covered steps that required careful footing. Along the way, smaller pools and mini waterfalls appeared, each offering a refreshing escape from the relentless climb. Some were deep enough for a dip, their clear waters reflecting the dense canopy above. Pushing forward, we finally arrived at the most spectacular sight—the Main Falls. Towering and powerful, the water plunged into a deep emerald pool, its mist cooling the sweat on our skin. It was the perfect reward after the grueling ascent, a hidden paradise seemingly untouched by time. The return journey retraced our steps, though the descent proved just as tricky. The damp, uneven terrain kept us on high alert, and a careless step could easily have sent someone sliding down the slope. By the time we reached the bottom, legs aching but spirits high, the once-distant sound of rushing water now felt like a distant memory. What was meant to be a simple waterfall hike turned into one of the wildest treks we had ever experienced in Hong Kong—an adventure through raw, unfiltered nature, far removed from the city's towering skyline. #thingstodo #myitinerary #travel #naturalwonders #chinatrip #thingstodo
