Tulip Exhibition at Green Lake Park in Kunming

Green Lake Park is located in the center of Kunming and is one of the most famous urban attractions in Kunming. The park is surrounded by water and bamboo, and is full of willows in spring and summer, hence the name "Green Lake." The park has a long history and rich cultural heritage, and is known as the "Emerald" of Spring City. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, it was called "Caihaizi," and because there were "nine springs converging into a pool" in the northeast of the lake, it was also called "Jiulong Pool." In the Ming Dynasty, Mu Ying "planted willows and grazed horses" at Green Lake, and in the Qing Dynasty, Wu Sangui turned it into a new mansion called "Honghua Mansion." In the 31st year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, Wang Jiwen, the governor of Yunnan, built the "Biyi Pavilion" on the island in the center of the lake, making it a scenic area. In the 15th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, Ruan Yuan, the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, built a long embankment running north-south, called "Ruan Embankment." In the 8th year of the Republic of China, Tang Jiyao built a long embankment running east-west, called "Tang Embankment," and the two embankments intersected at the island in the center of the lake, dividing the lake into four parts. Green Lake Park is composed of attractions such as Shuiyue Pavilion, Haixin Pavilion, Jiulong Pool, Guanyu Tower, Lianhua Zen Temple, Southwest Island, and Bamboo Island, and is characterized by the scenery of "ten acres of lotus flowers and fish world, half a city of willows and Buddhist towers."
